Yeah, he was on the floor. That is my sister he is sitting on and she was birdy-sitting while my mom went to Arizona to take care of our Grandpa. She didn't see him there and then it was too late.

My poor mom was having a horrible day anyways that day. Grandpa has been a "pill" to put it nicely his entire life and now he has Alzheimers bad enough not to be able to care for himself but is still aware enough to throw a tizzy when anyone tries to step in and he doesn't realize he has it. Anyway, Mom was out in AZ to move him from his own home to my Aunt's and
Grandpa was being downright evil when she got the call that Sunshine was hurt. Plus, our family has an added stress factor at this point (more on that next month) and Mom nearly snapped.

Fortunately, Sunshine is healing, Grandpa thinks he's a guest in a new house every five minutes and therefore is on his best behavior (not great behavior, but for him it's good) and life is looking a bit rosier for all.

Well, I've been away for a while. So I thought I would look around the old babble thread. Yep, all the usual suspects are still here. Soooo what's been up with Ommie ?

The oldest daughter and granddaughter are doing great. The babe is almost 11 months old now and we are planning a massive birthday party for next month. Nope, no spoilage here
. She's not walking yet but she's very close. She loves the chimes on the deck and would ring them for an hour if I would let her. We took a day trip with them a couple of weeks back which was fun. The Appalachians were beautiful.

The middle daughter went off to college this year. Sad time for Mrs. Ommie but she is having a great time there. Last month was Mrs. Ommie's family reunion and she was bummed because Boo Boo wouldn't be there this year. Well friday evening we hear the front door open and a voice says, "Man it's raining out there!" Yep, she drove home for the weekend and surprised us. And there was much rejoicing. She's got a great roomate and they clicked from the beginning. I think that's made the experience all the better for her so far.

The baby daughter started the second grade this year. Of the two second grade teachers she got the harder one. We were worried but she seemed to be doing well. Last week we had the parent/teacher meeting and her teacher said that she was really starting to come out of her shell and participate in class more. We let her know that the problem now may be shutting her up
. The teacher related a story to us. Some days after the announcements the principal will tell a story. One day the story was about choosing a friend you can count on. After the announcements the teacher asked each child in class if they had a friend that they can count on and go to. She said nearly evey child in the class said "Carly". Weeeell, I looked over at Mrs. Ommie and she was on the verge of breaking down. I married a social butterfly so that made her so proud.

In other news:

My mom had tripple bypass last month. She's doing fine but the recovery is taking longer that she thought it would.

Work is a B%^*$. We've been cut to the bone and it seems the work load has at least doubled. Typical. Oh well, at least I'm employed.

Next month marks 25 years that Mrs. Ommie has put up with my sorry butt. I'm trying to plan something special but don't know if I can pull it off or not.

Mrs. Ommie noticed that one of my company benefits was $11k toward adoption. Can she be serious ?!?

I guess that's enough babble for now. Hope everyone's doing great and I'll try to come back more often.

Wow, that's a big chunk! Wish the military had that*. Anyways, my mom just told me that about three years ago, she and my father had considered adopting a baby that my cousin was pregnant with until she remembered diapers and formula. The thought of having a sister younger than my daughter did amuse me.

*edit: they do but they are super stingy with the rules to qualify and it's only 2k

I don't know if she's feeling the empty nest or just can't pass up a bargain
. Me ? I'm looking forward to a little more room and freedom around the nest. I ain't gettin' no younger !

I love the babe to death. But I'm looking forward to making last minute plans and doing something fun without worrying about home work, is a school uniform clean for tomorrow, what time is basketball practice this week, etc.

*Mrs Ommie* ... that always cracks me up! Big congrats on the nearly 25 years!

My brother and I are both adopted. I just found out about a month ago that the agency had called up my parents when I was about 6 and told them they had another little boy who they felt would be perfect for our family. My parents seriously considered it!

First of all, I was seriously shocked I had never heard of this before. Second, I was kind of mad they even considered it LOL ... now had it been a little girl OKAY but there I was just going into school ... how hard would have that been to have two adorable brothers at home to compete with, one spanking new to the family? Third, I was seriously envious. Those days do not exist anymore where the agencies just have you know like extra kids with no serious health defects to place. Adoption is hard and heartbreaking at times, nearly as much as going the whole fertility treatment route.

But, adoption is really good and 11k is a lot of money towards it. I would be all over that ... but we are probably a little younger than Ommie and "Mrs. Ommie" and haven't raised kids already. Give her a few months of freedom and she will be redecorating the kids's rooms as guest rooms and taking long weekend vacations. My mom was like that then she totally got over it and now, we have a hard time getting a hold of her!

So like where are the grandbaby's photos of her in this year's halloweeny outfit ?

I know empty nest syndrome very well, and it was horrible for us, more so for me and the younger sibling, than hubby. Our first born were the twins, so when the class of 92 BOTH went into the US Navy it was horrid. Our first born daughter her stint with uncle sam began in JUNE right after the twins graduation, so we still had our son till Sept. when his stint with the Navy began. Due to the differing fields they had entered, determined more whom got to ship out to basic training first.

Anyhow she left in June, he was gone in Sept. and all I heard in Sept. was the clock ticking tick tock tick tock tick tock..the sound of silence was horrible.

Then when the youngest came home from highschool daily that helped me a lot to least have one left and she'd turn on her cds and there would be noise again. But she no longer had her siblings the twins, at home, to talk to about junk going on in school. She come by me sit down, yack up a storm to me then, she and I all depressed and together. We sat together, hearing that stupid clock on the living room wall ..tick tock tick tock tick tock.................................. tick tock !! The sounds of silence ..had not been able to even hear a clock ticking on the wall since any of em were born, and suddenly that sound of silence was pure hell.

It was hell I tell ya missing 2/3 of your offspring all at once when the twins left for the navy I think I cried for 12 solid mos or more missing them so much. It wasnt like they just went off to some college where they would get to come home again or on holidays..or us go drive to see them..nah it was uncle sam lucky we would get to see em at all in the next 4-6 yrs of our lives !

Then baby girl left ...and ..nobody come home since in all this time. . to visit yes but none of them will ever move back home to their own homes or lives again. The first one married lives in Calif. Her twin our son, met a lil gal in Connecticut so ....that is where his life will be for forever with her and her family the will wed next summer. And baby girl is a nurse now also married in Evansville Ind. where the tornado hit last week so she busy nursing the casualties up there where her home is, anyhow nobody is coming home again to live here. When the youngest one left in 95, there was this song on the radio. I forget who sung it, now but it was a breaking up song in the top 10 on the radio ... I bought the cd..I think it was named Missing You..played that song after babygirl left and wept..no more children at home at all.

That final empty nest with baby girl leaving took another 12 - 18 mos. to get over all, of it missing all 3 of em still happens a lot, but the empty nest thing left somewhere in 96 like dangggggggggggggg we got 3 whole bedrooms empty now to turn into whatever we want to use em for. * they still look just like the kids..still live here*
shrines maybe haha but all their posters and junk are still on the walls in *their rooms* but MY JUNK is in their closets now ! HAHAHA

And some times when ALL THREE of em call all on the same day long distance from their homes like some mind meld ESP each one missing their parents at the same moment, Its cool like yet annoyingly that phone rings.. it haha never fails they miles apart ..in x amt of time, they ALL CALLING home anyhow to the degree some days we go GAH THE PHONE RINGING AGAIN AGAIN hahah where is our..silence ? haha But alas when the youngest comes home with new hubby and their 7 shelties in tow.............SILENCE rapidly leaves for the sounds of 7 shelties yapping ! HAHA

No Halloween pics yet, but here's one from our day in the mountains. The toothless wonder, the grandbaby, and part of my best side

Wow QZ, that would suck. I don't want them to move that far away for sure. That would mean that Mrs. Ommie and I would have to.....would have to......talk
. I think we're safe. The two oldest at least are home bodies like me. They couldn't live too far away.

Your right Maith, if I were younger I would seriously consider adoption. I just don't think it's right for us now. I think that people who adopt children with special needs are saints amoung us. To knowingly take on a responsibility like that, well it just takes an exceptional kind of person.

Ya know...Jamie appears to be crackin up a bit. He is an jackass really. I think they should let (mind just went blank) that tall totally to skinny chic go. I haven't liked her from the beginning. I love Judd...he is raw, and so funny. My hope for the winner has to be Steph. I loved her on the last show and she really deserves to win. My all time favorite player is Rupurt(sp).

I decided a long time ago how to fix this ENS thing. I had my children 3 decades apart so that when the last one finally left I would be to dang old to care and would enjoy the grandchildren coming to visit me in the nursing home.

Ok well what really happened was after the first child I said no more...then "surprise" the second was coming (6 years later) welp then "surprise surprise" the third one (8 years after that). How this happened I just don't know. *looks at her user name**

By the way....who has the Christmas shopping started? Who has already dragged the lights out of storage and who is already listening to Christmas music?

"I think they should let (mind just went blank) that tall totally to skinny chic go."

Oh nooooo! Not Danni. Any woman who can walk into the jungles of Guatemala and say "Hey you're Gary Hogeboom, ex-NFL quarterback" has got my vote.
I don't think she has a chance but she's my #1 choice. But you're right. She needs a couple of cheeseburgers and some mashed potatos.

Rupert was the bomb. I agree. He's my all time favorite also.

I have not even begun Christmas shopping bleh so not in the mood. And since I married a Turkey hahaha he really hates to have Christmas decor up until after his birthday which often falls on/ after or nearly around last thurs of nov. ie Thanksgiving ! HEHEE He does not like to see his month of the year gyped of it's own uniqueness !
So I dont drag out the christmas reds and greens and snow till after he has had his fill of TURKEY and till Nov. 28th at least fades !

Me hubby is a Saggitarius and yeh bad enough I may be doing all the big turkey and stuffing and all the trimmings all these 34 yrs of married life but...lil boy in him wants a birthday cake even if thanksgiving and his birthday hit on the same day of week like it oft does if thanksgiving falls on a Nov. 28th ever ! HAHA So NO christmas till baby has his turkey decor galore clear thru the end of Nov. He always says stores and everybody rush thru MY MONTH like it doesnt exist so 3 cheers for turkeys and pilgrims and native corn ! HAHA

Tis ok my birthday is oft simply spring flowers, easter bunnies, & marshmellow peeps.. but usually not in competition with 3 other holidays like we get from oct. autumn to dec. of halloween racing to thanksgiving, racing to christmas, racing to..its time to do our taxes and christmas refunding ! So I be making my baby a birthday cake even after thanksgiving with a big ol turkey candle on it
often use icing to write upon his cakes ...to my favorite turkey..happy birthday !

First of all, I do all my shopping online. The only things I don't buy online are the homemade goodies and the stocking stuffers. I DETEST malls and stores during the holiday season. It's not joyous, it's not festive. Its a freaking pain in the butt!!! I have a lot of neo-pagan and Wiccan friends I buy for during this season and it's not that easy to find what I want for them. Online, it's much easier.

Second of all ... doesn't Ommie just have an adorable family? I have never seen a bad picture of any of them!

Third of all ... I don't think we should skim over any holiday! I am all for celebrating every holiday!

Christmas shopping?
You mean we have to do it again this year too?

Actually, my kids have been begging to get out the decorations and I keep reminding them that at this point we don't even know where we will be for Christmas but probably Arizona so no point setting up a tree we won't even get to see. Not to mention the fact that Thanksgiving isn't even here yet.

Of course, that argument holds no water with them because they are half Canadian and we celebrate Thanksgiving in October also. So far as they are concerned, Thanksgiving has come and gone and to be quite honest, I even catch myself wondering why all these people are getting all worked up to have another one and have to remind myself that they weren't all stuffing themselves a month ago.

Thanks for the compliment. All I can say is they better be thankful for their mothers genes !!

I can't get excited about Christmas yet. Once we get through Thanksgiving and put up the tree it will start to feel more like the holiday. We went to see Boo Boo at Clemson last weekend and came across a radio station that was already playing Christmas music 24/7. It just doesn't seem right.

We do most of our shopping online. I avoid the mall area here during a normal time of year. Christmas ? Pffft I don't even go on that side of town.

We aren't moving there, but we have very big business there this December that will keep us there most if not all of the month. Ahhhhh... I can't keep secrets very well!

We are (hopefully) adopting a baby due to be born in a few weeks in Arizona. Because of all the legalities involved with bringing him home to Germany, it may take a long time. Most of the parents in the support group I've been to say about a month. We will be staying with family and it's an infamily adoption. To be precise, the half brother of the little girl my parents considered adopting. (how wierd would that have been?)

Yeah, I have the shorts all packed and will be adding the t-shirts and jeans as we get closer to the date. I can't wait to get to where it's warm and feel the sunshine, but more importantly, I can't wait to see my son!

Adoptions are never certain until the papers are signed which is why I haven't said anything til now. Today my aunt and I realized that the birth father's rights have been terminated and my cousin is very sure about this although she can not sign any papers until three days after he is born, so I feel a bit more comfortable telling you all. Hopefully, I will be putting up pictures of my THREE beautiful children in a few weeks.

I have started my shopping, but a long way before I finish. I do some shopping online, but the shipping charges deter me from buying allot online when I can go to the mall or Wal-Mart, Target etc. and buy without shipping charges. I have broke out the lights because I have the worst luck when it comes to them working, so I check them all so as if I need to get new ones I won't be stuck at the last minute having to run out and buy. I decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving because by then my kids have drove me crazy about it and I always end up having to many hands in the ornament box. Last year my tree was naked half way up because (my one year old at the time) found it to hard to resist..a few things got broke, so I stripped it bare up as far as he could reach.
I sure hope he will be a bit better with it this year. Year before last my 2 daughters thought they would go snooping and I realized what they had done so I set up a little trap...very simple really...just laid a small comb on top of the door so that when they open the closet door the comb would sliently fall and bam!...they were busted when we got home. Since then all gifts have been kept off the property altogether.
Dang ungreatful kids! Ok...Ok...I might have done it myself once or twice as a child!

Everything has been bought for the Thanksgiving feast except for the Turkey cause I just have no room to put it in the freezer...would love to know the yummy things you guys like to fix/eat for Thanksgiving. Anybody here do allot of baking for Christmas? Cookies, pies, candy etc.? This time of year I put on a few extra pounds and it takes me dang near till Spring to get it all off. I blame it on the mixed drinks and eggnog as I stuff in that big Santa shaped sugar cookie in my mouth!

I make the turkey and a pumkin roll. Mrs. Ommie makes a great potato salad and deviled eggs. The hit of the feast is always a sweet potato casserole that my brother-in-law makes each year. One year he decided to do something different and didn't bring one. Well that's when the pitchforks and torches came out
He hasn't made that mistake again !!

My grandma made my mom a full set of felt tree decorations when I was a baby so that if little fingers grabbed them, nothing was broken. 30 years later a few have survived all the moves and babies after me and I put them out on display.

I still have all the cookie cutter Christmas and plaster cookie cutouts that the kids all made in preschool and kindergarden. I would carefully place those all on the Christmas tree or trees per Christmas. And the lil Reindeer they made from felts and gluing clothpins together in scouts. . etc.

Now, I have a lot harder time, even seeing those ornaments let alone putting those ornaments the kids made on the tree, cuz most every year they never get home for the holidays not even one let alone all three of them. So when I see those ornaments up in the Christmas decor boxes I just end up crying. :* Empty nest hits hardest remembering Christmases past, when either I was the kid surrounded by family and tons of extended family in Ohio, or years of Christmases when we had our own kids at home with us. Now it is usually Christmas of only the two of us and while we still have an ok holiday..mostly we are more glad when it is OVER ..cuz nobody here but us two..full of fond memories of Christmases past. *all in all Dec. 25th for us now just SUCKS and will again this year too. * Christmas is about family too..just ours is all over the usa..and so one day a year it is worse depression I guess, than the other 364 days or so of the year. Kids even grown ones or family make the holidays..a holiday.
Our christmases are ok..just lonelier than we would have wanted with just us 2 only..for most of the christmas times here.

Aww Queen... *sighs* When I think about it, if my children weren't here for the holidays I am not sure I would be having one. I get excited because they get excited...I bake because they expect it because its been that way all there lives and I decorate because they enjoy helping and we put on christmas music and sing. But...if they were out living there own lives far away and all grown up...Ugg...I would be so proud, but at the same time crying my eyes out that those days of there childhood are gone. They can drive me crazy sometimes and I am pulling out my hair etc., but I know I will wish for those days again and sooner then I think.

My oldest will be 18 in a year and a half and she swears she is moving into her own apt. and go to school too. HahahHa...I bout choked and she will choke too when she realizes how hard that is going to be on that $7 an hour she makes working that part time job she has.
I can see it now.... "Mom can I come over and wash my clothes...mom can I come over for dinner...mom can I borrow $20, this months rent, this months car insurance premium...ACK! I am scaring myself. I better stop.
I told her as long as she was going to school she could live at home for free with no worries. *shrugs* Oh well, she is stubborn..umm..just like her father. Yeah, just like him!
Queen, it makes me feel bad that you and Mr. Queen will be so alone on Christmas, but it sounds like you have so many wonderful memories of Christmas' past and I hope those memories help you through the Holidays this year. *hugs*

We thought our youngest would NEVER get out on her own cuz she had to keep finding herself ! HAHA And inbetween she came back home.. again and again. And it was always peculiar bout the time she was the more broke, up came her car in the driveway perfectly timed for...dinner while toting several bags of her laundry to use OUR machines and Electric and Water bill, and a dad can ya fix my car kinda look about her ! HAHA

Aye it sucks they are each all 3 of them so far away and still young adults so they are still making ends meet. . too far to drive home for 2 of em and the airfare is unreal. Our son can fly to amsterdam cheaper than he can from Connecticut to Tennessee..same for our California daughter she can about fly to Japan on pennies but not to middle Usa ..the airlines DO THAT ! *mutters* It is like 650 dollars for the twins to fly round trip home..yet they can if they had that much go thousands of miles into europe or asia for far LESS ! DOH thank u us airlines ! BAH !

We do have an ornament in all the boxes of ornaments that we kept over the yrs. IT is broken ! HAHA Well human children are not the only lil ones one has underfoot over the years. Once upon a time a tall black lab was in our home ..fatal swishin tails on them labs especially around christmas trees. hehe Besides kids there were always dogs ..so most ornaments that were breakeable went high atop the higher branches of the trees every Christmas. But one year i forgot and stuck a pretty china angel down to low..well I still put it on the tree but have to laugh when I see it..remembering a lumbering black lab who's tail swished off came that angel busting a wing off of her ! Add the *cookie cutout* ornaments even varnished that a certain springer spaniel some 15 yrs ago tried to EAT ! That dogs teeth marks are still in two of the still whole not broken yet chewmarked Christmas ornaments ! HAHA

Christmas is just one of those holidays more so than easter or any other..maybe due to ornaments on a tree, ornaments filled with tons of years of memories ..always bitter sweet after they grow and are gone from home..or in case of some pets over the decades long gone..yet some lil something in a box at christmas time will even remind us of a pet years ago ..like a broken winged angel broken via dog tail, or doggie teethmarks in a cookie ornament ! HEHE

We have like 3 green artificial christmas trees and a white fake christmas tree when we do not get a real tree. Anyhow tons of ornaments and tons of statues and knitted crocheted things and well TONS of christmas. But in one big box I have the *generic* all white christmas tree with *generic* no special meaning kinda fancy department store ornaments that have NOOOO memoires on em whatsoever..so some years I just drag that all out..it looks like Goldsmiths in here but its ..not *personal* nor full of fond memories, more like a dept.store window fancy pancy prissy kinda set up, so haha makes some christmases easier to get thru..like yay we pretty but its the non meaningful stuff we use sometimes ..thus we are all decked out but no personal memory attachments to any of it !

Yet every year there are 3 toy soldiers out in the front yard one for each grown child ..those are like a must even if I avoid all the rest of the memory filled things..the lil toy soldiers all 3 remind me of when the 3 of em were in high school band
they must be outside ..each one of em...lit up standing tall to greet passersby...and if ever any one of the 3 would get home..they would find their *soldier* in the yard to say hello ..if they would make it home. *usually they do not but I will always have their toysoldiers *them* out there waiting..in case !

And yes expect your yet to turn 18 gonna get her own apartment child to pay surprise visits draggin laundry..and a hunger for............your supper ! HAHA

"Traveling but close by, to Lynchburg, VA from Charlottesville"

Fyr, you take I81 to Exit150 in Troutville then go 460?

Much better to just go 29 all the way from Charlottesville...nice scenic ride...reminds me of Route 11 a little.
Lynchburg is one of those towns that makes me feel like their is only one way in and one way out. lol No interstates just Routes.

Where i live I take 64E then 29S, it is a scenic drive mostly just countryside
Lynchburg has a few bypases now so it is easier to get around.

My gf did get to go to Thanksgiving with me, my family liked her and she liked them. She is the only girl I have introduced to my parents and sisters, rest of family since I got divorced although I have dated a lot ..
