A week and no babble?

I have black-chinned hummingbirds visiting my feeder, wrens are nesting in the carport and wascaly wabbits are sneaking into the yard now and then.

And I have the usual lizards, but there is one on the east side of the yard that is huge. I thought it a snake when I first saw it. I'm not familiar with lizard types, but I think I'll try to ID that bugger.

*babbles on and on about the local wild critters*

Have at thee, vile army dillo!

One down, another scurrying off through the woods. If it is a wise army dillo, it will keep scurrying!

Vile army dillos!

You wont have to remind me not to go wandering in the Alabama woods.

That thing is huge. Aren't they supposed to be mean as hell?

And why the heck would someone want to mount that head?! Where would they put it? Surely not the play room!!!!

*gasp* I meant NOT the children's playroom. *LOL* I guess you could use it to throw darts at. Or maybe with a little Barbie makeup, hat and wig, it wouldn't look as bad.

I heard there was a Faerr sighting at S|A's BSR on Sunday.

I was supposed to be there myself, but I umm, errr, lost track of time and missed it.

I decided I would reactivate for maybe the summer. I have a 18x18 plot on ice island fel courtesy of some very nice old friends.

Roofs are still a PITA but I refuse to go without one. I still have that on the ground floor and will eventually get the other rooftops on. Still just playing around with it. I will probably raze it over and build something else after living in it for a bit.

Now there seems to be so many changes and a lot of catching up to do. I'm looking at my toons and trying to figure out where I was taking some of them when I left.

Yes, I was at the BSR but arrived too late to play. *snap* Theo left before I could shoot him.

There were some other old faces that showed for the BSR, Theo seemed to know who they were but I couldn't remember them.

Hrmmm my stud lowbie keeps finding himself drawing the attention of the ladies in Brit. I still need to crop this screeny which would involve caring enough to do it.

Yes, there was a Faerr sighting indeed!
And of course, in fitting fashion she reappeared for the first time at the Faerrgrounds!

Friday morning 'critters in the yard' report:

1 - gray squirrel
2 - red squirrels
1 - wascaly wabbit
1 - whitetail doe
1 - toad (patrolling the front porch for bugs - I think I might get him a house)
various birds and hummingbirds

That is all for now.

=== update ===

various lizards and one, about half grown tarantula

Take a terracotta pot and notch out a door on the rim then turn it upside down and ouila, a toad house. They love it. just pour some water on the pot now and then to help keep it moist.

I hate the spider that keeps making a house in my toad house. ANyway I guess they both kill bugs, and this isn't a black widow but you know I think it would be more ideal to have a toad in there. lol

Yeah Faerr, somewhere I saw some yard gnomes that doubled as toad houses. They had little cutouts between their legs for a door. That would look kinda cool on the front porch.

"Awww, it's sooooo cute!" I mused as I watched the baby deer pick its way through the back yard and then lay down in some of the taller grass.

So that's what that doe was doing in the yard so long yesterday! Recon! She was looking for a safe place to stash her baby for a while, and Šhard's backyard is it. *sigh* Well, if the Green Mother wishes it, I can do nothing less than help to provide safe haven and protection for one of Her babies.

I just hope word of this doesn't reach the masses. I know Roxie will stay mum, but I do have a curmudgeonly, heartless persona to project.

*sigh*

Pictures, dangit! I want pictures.

The only ones I'd have right now are carpets hanging all over the back fence and a basement in total chaos.

(actual pictures of the actual deer in the actual yard are forbidden pursuant to the protection order issued by the Green Mother to Šhard -- which might not be necessary but for Šhard's continuing feud with the Guild of Arcane Arts)

aaaaw! cute!

Well I don't have pics taken of my latest charges. Because I guess I am jaded now!

I just finished the litter of six and have gotten two more to care for. These are marsh rabbits, which are my favorite because of personality.

I had a most awful thing happen to me while tending them. I was pointing out the differences in cottontails and marsh rabbits to my husband and daughter, when I went to lift one of the rabbits by the rear end to show them the feet and the underside of the tail.

Well SHEEP! This rabbit's skin came right off his backside. At first my husband was laughing because it looked like his fur had pulled out but in reality this rabbit was missing a quarter sized patch of hide thanks to my inappropriate handling of him.

Was talking to a friend about it and she figured maybe it was an escape mechanism incase they are caught from behind by prey.

Sure enough I think she was right because it's just two days later and it is completely healed over and disappeared. I couldnt' believe it.

I dunno, Faerr. Meds? Guilty conscience? Afraid you'll dream of baby chickens or baby deer?

The baby deer spent all day in the back yard, and we never saw the mother once. I was a bit concerned when I went to bed, but I wasn't going to get too upset until I saw whether or not it was still there this morning. No sign of the little bugger today, so I guess the Mommy came and got it in the night.

Without so much as a 'thank you for babysitting' or anything. I know, I know, I'm not supposed to expect a 'Thank You' for doing what is right, I'm just babbling.

Think about it Shard, the deer probably left you a pile of thankyou on your back lawn.

Not sure why I was so wired. I was like a howler monkey on crack or something like that. Except I could not concentrate well enough to read or game very well. *shrugs*

No worries, Faerr. The deer, rabbits, squirrels and even the little dog leaves thank you piles all over the place.

Heh, troo dat! The odd thing is we are having a bumper crop of lizards this year. The usual bright green ones, but also a lot of kinda olive green ones with dark green or black stripes that run most of the length of their bodies. The darker lizards like to hang out in the driveway and carport. The driveway concrete is much rougher than the carport concrete, so when we spook them in the carport their little feet and claws don't get a very good grip and they slip and slide all over the place. Once they hit the driveway though, they get good traction and can really scoot. It's funny to watch the little dog chasing them around.

I figure the lizards, like the toads, are just there to help thin out the bugs so I don't pay them much attention.

I'm still battling the ants though. I am beginning to wonder if I should be selling ant farms.....

You are a gifted wizard and very loyal to your allegiance. Whilst you have a big heart and care very much about those around you, you can be a little arrogant and reckless at times.

You scored as a Hermione Granger
You're one intelligent witch, but you have a hard time believing it and require constant reassurance. You are a very supportive friend who would do anything and everything to help her friends out.

Hmmm....Don't care to be called a witch but I can live with this otherwise.

*ROFL* Um, yeah....I redid it last year. I still run by yours in hopes of catching you but no such luck. Our neighborhood is very quiet anymore. I guess noone wants to disturb the lurking wildlife.

And Faerr....I don't think it's arrogance. I think it's more self-assured. There's a big difference and I find it refreshing.

For those of you who didn't attend Friday's Olympic events, Faerr's chicken choked quickly. *LOL* I don't even think we had time to *gasp*. It was great fun and I just wish I'd have had time to train one up. She did well in the archery but got a bit confused as to where or who the target was. Theoran moves quickly. *snicker*

A doe visited my yard this morning and left some 'thank you' pellets. Haven't seen the baby in over a week. Relocated another terrapin to outside the fence. Dry enough to do some mowing this evening.

Oh, duh,
I have a big square of dead grass just off the front porch. I had replaced the storm door with a simple screen door. After removing the old door, I had laid it out in the yard and promptly forgot to move it. The sun and the glass managed a fierce greenhouse effect and cooked the grass under it.

Oh yeah, the gardenia bushes are blooming, too.

And t3h d33r n00b is back for a visit!

Gardenias are very wonderful plants.

I swear... we spent most of the friggin day doing yard maintenance. If I did not have all these kids I'd go live in a van down by the river!

Our ride on mower has a leaky tank so I finally figured out just exactly where the leak was on the side marked it then it's still usable just don't fill it to the pin hole leak. I tell my husband who is not a redneck, that it's redneck logic working there.

Luckily I can do about a half acre before having to put more gas in it. With all the rain everything is still pretty thick and green. We have not had to water yet this season.

We have this odd plant that has what looks like the stem structure of Queen Anne's lace, but instead of the white blossoms it's these clusters of a sticky tiny pod that is sage green colored. Those pods love the golden retriever's hair. Gah, I am having to brush him out daily now. I'm hoping pre emergent will take care of those for next year or we are in trouble.

Let's see.. what else on the lawncare front. We have been contemplating, less lawn and more pool. haha Now it's just researching the different companies and getting what we really want. I can't wait!

As for wildlife.. We have a lot of homes that have been here for decades, but large land owners are selling off their properties and now the shoe box style houses are going in.. *sigh* So less and less wildlife will be around as it is squeezed out.

If the leak is a pinhole and not a crack, a dab of epoxy should seal it right up.

Read and follow all label directions. Use only in a well ventilated area. Allow epoxy to set for 24 hours before testing for leaks. Your results may vary. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

U

Uhm is it safe to use epoxy near gasoline? Plus it gets sort of hot down there with the motor and tank area. You sure about that?

Okay first off, tell us Shard do you have all your facial hair intact? Eyebrows aren't singed are they? baaahaha

Actually, I know this gal that had to have eyebrows tatooed on her face from an accident. Her's didn't involve epoxy tho.

Now what the heck am I doing up at 1 a.m. ?
