Edit: I also remember when I said that and I never even knew you were african american until you told me. Im not saying it was right but if you read above youll see that I use the word freely. Ive called my cat, dog, sister, bother and even my mom a N before. To me the word doesnt hold the value it once did. If you really think I made my post for sympathy, you are an idiot. I made my post because I am outraged that A) this type of behavior is tolerated IN GAME, and B) because I am INCREDIBLY OFFENDED BY THE USE OF RACIAL SLURS.
I brought up the continuing existence of racism to point out WHY it is possible for someone to STILL be offended by the N word, and why it is NOT acceptable to use it. ZOMG CONTEXT?!??!?!??! HOW DARE SOMEONE PUT SOME PERSPECTIVE INTO THE MIX!
So you call everything under the sun the N word? Wow. Just... wow. What does this "N" word mean to you? You say you use "Jewish" to describe cheap, so please, PLEASE, what does the N word mean for you?
Also, have you ever called a Jewish person "Jewish" to their face, with the implied meaning of "cheap"? I've seen it done, and sure enough the Jewish person got really offended. What are you going to do, call them a K*** next?
Just because you use the word freely doesn't mean it isn't wrong. The word is EVIL. It's origins are wholly negative. It is not like, say, the word cracker. Do you know where that word came from? It is derived from the *crack* of the whip when slaves were being punished. It was a code word to know what was going down. When you say people call you Canadian, what negative connotations are attached to it, honestly? Is it derived from a slur or is it because you simply live in the country Canada?
The way you use the N word is wholly negative. You can't say it's not. That completely undermines your argument that it has become "common".
Why do you think this is some sort of pity post or crying? So pointing out an injustice perpetrated by yourself and an acquaintance of yours is wrong? Should I not speak out? Should I just... keep quiet and watch it all take place without reacting? HOW is this wanting people to feel sorry for me? How does that even make sense? You are attempting to turn the situation around, where I am in the wrong. NO. I am pointing out that these offensive, derogatory remarks are being said in game. That makes those that utter these words the bad guys. That means you. That means Rikku. That means anyone else who uses it. I've had people say that word in Vent and TS before in different guilds and you should hear the way they shut up when I tell them I'm black and not to say that. It's because they KNOW it's inherently wrong.
So, that said, why would I need people to feel sorry for me? I have merely given you personal and general context as to why the word is inappropriate for use. This is done all the time in academic circles when you are making an argument about something. It amuses me that you are so ignorant and so hell-bent on justifying yourself that you had to portray me as wanting people to feel sorry for me.
