OT didn't contribute to the gaming communities, in fact we sometimes spilt over our bad behavior into other gaming related forums (in raids and such). There has been a lot of complaints about OT in the past, so to say that OT is an integral part of the forum community is placing way too much importance on a tiny group of people. (Which yes, I am a part of, but I am not so obsessed with an internet forum that I'll go all crazy over it and proclaim myself part of this divine community that is more important than all others)

I suppose there was no need to take OT crap across into other forums - or the "raids" (which I didn't participate in) but why punish everyone for the actions of the few that were involved?

Hell, I remember when the TSO forums "invaded" OT, including the famous "Patrick and the Mime" incident but don't a lot of gamers do raids within their games anyway, so what's the big deal about doing it on the forums (as long as they keep within the rules of that forum).

OT was a place where people could let out their frustration that they wouldn't necessarily have done in their 'regular' forums - the problem now is that if they don't have that space, it'll come out in other forums and lead to damaging the overall community by banning otherwise useful posters in other forums for things they'd have done on OT. Just because it didn't fit the "main focus" of OT doesn't make it worthless, in fact most forums I post on have 'general' forums for talking about "life outside the computer"... or is that considered unnecessary now?

If I'm right, Stratics has been 'taken over' by some commercial enterprise? That's your problem right there. Stratics began as a fansite that grew, made by gamers, for gamers. It's lost that focus, and all the knowledge and resource made available here is likely to be lost as people get bored and find other places to post. Shrinking community, means less for people here to participate in, less reason for new posters to hang around, and that'll be the end of it all.

I was one who used racial slurs fairly rarely, I had ONE thread that had a racist title, while the rest of you guys had dozens of racists posts. And you guys also accused the CEO of being a pedophile. Imagine a potential investor coming to Stratics and seeing that charge.

Anyway, as stated, I am just as guilty as the next OT poster, I was right there in the gutter, rambling on, being obscene. But I know when I've been defeated rightfully. And honestly the overly dramatic 5 year old behavior and over done selfimportance displayed by posters such as MC and UD just makes me glad OT is dead.

compromise my ass. there was no discussion with the current staff. you just poked your heads in and changed the rules and the forum without so much as a notice.

there was no porn on OT. if it showed up, it was removed as soon as it seen.

i actually had to look up what the hell guro was. there wasn't any of that either. if there was, it was removed, just as it would be on any other forum on stratics.

The point I believe people are trying to make is that if "management" make decisions like that without a) consulting the community it affects, and b) the staff working on that forum, then c) what confidence do we have in "management" to act professionally, and d) what confidence do the staff have in "management" to allow them to get on and do their jobs properly?

This is not about OT and drama - this is about someone acting without thought, consideration or professionalism, in a position where all three are needed in abundance.

All the people that posted in OT probably posted on other forums as well. They'll tell their friends what happened. They'll tell their friends about it. People that don't use Stratics will hear about it, about how a forum got shut down because someone who probably shouldn't be interfering in the day-to-day running of things anyway acted out of turn, and Stratics as a whole gets a more negative reputation than it already has.

Why should I care? Overall, I don't, because I have plenty of other places to post about things of interest to me - however I did consider myself part of the overall Stratics community, and having spent 5½ years here racking up 15,000+ posts, have got to know some of the people I regularly sparred with on OT.

This is probably the best thing that could have happened in the long run for the OT community, abandoning the sinking ship of UO and its fansite, and launching ourselves as an independent non-corporate sponsered net community. It was time for a shake up and this is actually kind of exciting. Now there is a future.

I feel bad for whoever was counting on our continued fanbase through the corporate acquisition, but it sounds like they already decided (quite mistakenly in my opinion), that they do not want our participation here.
