Topic i'd like to see is.....
Mesanna to admit she was wrong to implement a new skin on a creature that nobody asked for and reverse said action and restore the Tamable Phoenix back to it's original design.
Leave the "greater phoenix" spawn looking like puke dipped giant turkeys but for god sake change the "phoenix" back to the way it was......
I can assure you a bald eagle is larger than a parrot, and that they (phoenix) are described throughout the millennia as being very colorful birds often times said to be LARGER than an ostrich.

So technically, the developers (I can't believe I am saying this) were correct in both size and coloration. If you like we can attempt to persuade the team into making them BIGGER to fit the mythology more, but I have a feeling you wouldn't be very keen on that.

My suggestion would be to making them rideable, much akin to the chocobo from final fantasy...

Finally another issue would be with looting rights. If a player never gets rights, they don't get the credit.
You're very sure of this? I recall, back when the changes were made, people asking how the new system worked and we were told, if I'm remembering right, that you racked up points for doing damage and for healing/rezzing. Honestly don't remember anyone saying that none of it counted if you didn't get looting rights on the boss, and if this is correct ..... it pretty much stinks

I have no doubt the system works, as long as you get looting rights.

The system is based on Doom's. In Doom, only 6 mobs are tracked, all of the spawned fodder is disregarded. Looting rights on the main mobs are necessary towards a guaranteed drop.

Yes, it's 100% based on earning looting rights on the boss that has the "drop" in EM events.

You can earn looting rights by:

#1) Dealing Damage.
#2) Healing Damage. Spells/bandages, resurrection does nothing as far as looting rights goes. it's literally only "Healing damage", it's probably why most EMs place healers nearby at events.
#3) Taking Damage.

*drum roll*
Sampires & Wammies can do all three simultaneously.

The only time it's at all different is in Champion Spawns for the "replica drop" you can kill spawn only, and when the champ dies (even if you did 0 damage to the champ) you still have a chance at a replica drop.

Why does everyone always quote Mythology?...
Lets look at the word closely......MYTH.
There is no such thing in real life and in Mythology you can get it to say whatever you want if you read enough books.
In some the Phoenix isn't even a Bird, it's a Demon that burns the flesh from your body while your still alive.....

Now in Ultima Online the Phoenix has been for neigh on 19 years has been a dark red hued eagle........END OF!!!!!!...no "well in this game...or in this book...or in harry potter" NO!! 20 years of UO it's been the same.
The fact they introduced a different phoenix with a different skin and called it a 'Greater Phoenix' means nothing, the Phoenix was still and always shall be a DARK RED HUED EAGLE.

When the dev say: not at this time
It means they are working on other things for the game and this is not on that list yet.
Or, more likely, that they have no plans of ever adding it. At one of the M&Gs, I asked about Gargoyle versions of Shadowguard drops + the ability to alter existing SG items. That was months ago. Do you REALLY think it would be hard to add that to live shards, especially when Garg versions of some drops already exist on TC1?

Every M&G is basically asking for the same things. On just the in-game things alone, how many of those requests have been added?

On your CRT screen 19 years ago that "eagle" was likely to be the same size as the phoenix today. Just sayin'

gentlemen, thank you for the answers very much :) and I have a follow-up that maybe you also know .. do the points earned carry over from event to event? or are the points earned dropped?
Points like Doom's system? As far as I know, event drops are just "get loot rights, then hope RNJesus decides to be nice to you." You can get rights early by using an Armor Ignore spamming character though, like a whammy. But that doesn't mean you'll have more of a chance (assuming you're not multiboxing or playing multiple characters), unless a bunch of people don't get loot rights.

Champ spawns are the same - killing more spawn before the champ pops won't give you higher chances at a backpack drop, iirc. In all of the spawns I've done the past few years (well over 100), I've seen maybe 10-20 backpack drops.

I would imagine the points do carry over (It should function the same way the Doom Gauntlet does) but to be honest, It's hard to tell if a point system exists for EM Events.

Someone that regularly does EM Events would probably know more about the "point system" than I would, It's hard to tell based on my experience, I use 3-4 characters depending on which shard the Event is on, but I also rarely attend EM Events.

First off, there is something wrong with the system if the only viable character across all shards is a whammy.

Second, champ spawns do not use the same mechanics, think more in terms of doom than champs.

@Covenant, do you use 3-4 chars during EACH event? If so, please share how you do it...inquiring minds would like to know.

Impressive, well played. If only the rest used such finesse instead of resorting to the third party solution.
I couldn't agree more.

I wouldn't be able to do it with as many clients at EM Events due to the ridiculous lag with so many people there, that's why I only ever attend them with 3-4 chars, but of course all my characters for Events are throwers in either vamp form or wraith form depending on shard.

I never said it was the only viable one. Just that it (or, well, virtually any dexer template) can get looting rights faster than anyone else (due to Armor Ignore spam), plus it's the simplest to play. IMO, it's better with ranged - unless a mob targets you first or has some ability to do ranged damage/an AoE, you don't even take that much damage. At least not enough that Cursed Weapon + bandages can't (in most cases) fix.

In fact, here's the setup for my Legends thrower: 140 str/139 HP, 120 Dex/152 stam, 41 Int/73 mana. Stone suit for max LMC, 55 SSI, max HCI, 100% LRC. All weapons are 100% elemental super slayers with Mana Leech and Stam Leech. Skills: 120 Throwing (given), 116.7 Tactics, 119.7 Anatomy, 80 Chiv for Enemy of One, 60 Necro for guaranteed Wraith Form/GM Spirit Speak. Healing's at 90 (80 can also work if you have Enhanced Bandages), and Resist is (IMO) pretty much pointless for a ranged EM Event character.

I have a similar setup for my two throwers on Atlantic, although I have lower Chiv - don't need to use EoO when you have access to double slayer bonuses. At my maximum, I can Armor Ignore a target for 237 damage, with a very rare 243 popping up every so often.

Here's one that came up over in the Player's Corner.

We've had several potential new players stomp off in disgust, because of how the money system changes screwed over the new player experience to make them think that the game was completely broken.

After the change, buying from NPCs and tithing ONLY come from gold in the bank.
Training skills up still require dropping the loose gold on the NPC.

BUT, the new PCs start with ALL their gold still in the backpack, as they have for 20 years - and no advice to tell them that to buy anything or tithe for chivalry, they will have to put that gold into the bank first. So, here they are, with 1000 gold in their pack, being told they have no gold to tithe, and not enough gold to buy a 3 GP piece of fruit.

At this point in the economy, it won't hurt anything to raise the amount of gold that new characters start with on the regular shards (and probably not SP either), and have them start with most of it in the bank.

Say, 1000 still in pack, 2000-9000 in the bank for tithing and purchases.

Some way to teach "new" players they HAVE a bank box would be good too... I can't tell you how many NEW players I've found living out of their backpacks... since many games do that... They had NO CLUE they even HAD a Bank box to put stuff in.

They wanted to know how in the (&$@($&# to get that much gold to buy some stuff off vendors since there was NO WAY they could hold 30+ thousand let alone 30+ million in their pack... talk about discouraging.

now try throwing valorite elemental reflect damage, deathspit, explosions that take half of each characters health, etc etc into the mix and see how it works. It doesnt. it might have 6months ago but not recently. soloing a boss with muliple characters and all the time in the world is much different than competing with 100 to 200 other characters for looting rights in a time frame that can be around 10 seconds.

I completely agree with you.

I too wonder how someone can play 5 chars, individually set a target, attack, use abilities on all chars, and get looting rights all within 10 seconds. Just because I applaud someone for staging a video of something completely unrelated, doesn't mean I believe someone can do the same thing without 3rd party software at an event.

BTW, my favorite FU moments were when clops would take those valorite elementals to full life at every event. with the specific purpose in mind of helping a few people. Unfortunately, those people still play while clops took the fall for everyone.

I have seen it asked at M&Gs, why not up the starting gold of a new player and a few other things to a beginning account.
Perhaps a 100k to 1 mill has been suggested.
Others have offered a LRC suit too but it was something they could buy with the gold .. upgraded weapons.
The Dev have said they are talking of something along these lines.
Now you have to understand like most offices the day to day work can go in many directions... depending on what pops up as the planned main work subject is going on.
To this..
I have to remind you all of when we were kids...
How many times did we ask for something and our parents would say we will consider it..?
I for one asked for a few things and found you don't get it right away... unless its a immediately needed item.
Most times parents would have it noted and you might see it as a gift or present.
(How do you think Aunt May or Uncle George found out you wanted that item?)
I don't doubt if its a good idea the Dev take note ... but have to do a lot more before they can get a chance to work out if its a good fit for the game.
I remember asking Grimm if we could get a lighter color to our packs like I saw in a posting he had ... he said it could be done easy and he would see about it.
Now he was only a few weeks away from his pink slip and any hope I had was poofed... till a Dev listened at a M&G...
We now have a choice.
It took a long time but it came to be.
You cant expect instant. Even in the RL world of business it takes time to get a change that is good for all.

Here's another thing...

Internet Explorer is DEAD, for all intents and purposes.

Even if you have a different default browser, on ANY Windows system (Tested everything from XP to 10), if you click a link in UO's patch screen or sign-in screen, it WILL open it in IE. The only people that I know of, so far, that get it to open in their default browser, are Linux and Mac users using whatever emulation that need to run UO.

Isn't it about time to alter the UO startup so that the links go to the default browser for everyone?
