I work up to 16 hour/day when I need it, they can't do that :D
How do you find time to actually play the game?

Only issue with the patcher I can complain about is it's dependance on the .NET framework.

.NET support for non-Windows Operating Systems is shoddy at best, and there are some of us that I'm sure would like to be able to acquire the updates the old way because of this. Is it possible a .zip or .rar of the updated versions can be packaged and hosted for download for those of us where the patcher simply isn't a viable way to update the UI?

It's not all days 16 hours of work or I'll be dead soon :p

However, I'd prefer to make the updater working since the framework is used only for xml and interface and should work everywhere...
The patcher have highly reduced the patch upload/download size now I can upload a new version in 1 minute instead of 10 and will be installed properly in much less time...
Other than that the patcher will avoid the bug caused by wrongly updated interfaces... so let's try to make it works instead of skip it :p

3 possible causes:

1) you have installed it in the wrong folder (must be installed into the main game folder and NOT into UserInterface)

2) you don't have the framework 2.0

3) you don't have directx 9.0c installed properly

<fade out of contemporary workplace scene with cubicles....desks....employees gathering to actually leave the building to go to lunch, security tags on lanyards around their necks.....fade in to board laid across saw horses against the wall of a semi rennovated old shoe factory. Arrayed on board are 5.25 inch floppies, three monitors, an Amiga, an Atari ST, and Mac II spread out with a stack of external hard drives haphazardly arranged with cables strewn in all directions. A DEC VAX is sitting on the floor underneath the "table."

Two unshaven men dressed in tee shirts spotted with condiment stains are arguing...

"No way I can write a front end for the PC....you can't even load the sound into 64k, and who the hell is going to be buying these damned things anyway?"

Ah yes.....the site where the graphical MMO was first created....Charlottesville, Virginia in The Old Michie Building. The men are all bachelors...all six of them creating and supporting five different games...a sixth, based on Mark Miller's science fiction paper game, Traveler, has been more or less in development for the past five years. They report for work promptly at noon....they will leave sometime after 3AM the following day.

Oops...sorry...was just remember the days when Pinco's statement would have been wrong.

Yes, nowadays, this current, pathetic, weak, sad generation of game developers - people who insist on actually spending time at home, some of whom meet women, marry, even spawn, some of whom are women themselves (sure makes meeting women easier) - live lives like fragging BANKERS.....showing up for work IN THE MORNING, as absurd as that sounds, and leaving.....oh my....leaving IN DAYLIGHT.

Yes, yes, Pinco. It grieves me but you're right. But it's not that they can't. THEY WON'T. And they call themselves game developers.....GAME DEVELOPERS. Heh! Whatever. Besides, what do I know....I was the eighth guy and....well....I'll confess - I took Sundays off. Okay I said it! I was made of lesser stuff.

Moving on.

Still can't get music to play in-game. I select the play music icon, drag it to an empty hotbar slot, the dialog, titled "command," where you're supposed to enter the file name appears, I enter the name of an MP3 in the /music subdirectory, the dialog does not close when I click "okay" but does when I click on something else. Right clicking on the icon and selecting Edit brings up the dialog and shows the sound file name. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's not exactly a pressing issue for me. I'd be pleased if you could show me the error of my ways, but I'm not exactly living for the moment when it works.

I'm happy with it all as is :)

EDIT: I found the cause of the bug, it happen only when you drag the icon... so until I fix it try this: drag the icon, logout, login then edit the action and should work :p

Hmmm cant install Framwork 2 on a x64 platform. Directx 9 is also installed, perhaps its a x64 issue?

- Fixed a bug with the playmusic action, now should works correctly.
- Changed the status basic texture in order to fit better the buttons.
- Remove the cascade container mode.
- Now all the containers will restore position and dimensions when re-opened.

Ok here's what I've got going on maybe it will help you out a bit... but since I'm on Linux and there are so many flipping flavors it probably won't..

Your UI Patcher can patch the UI, if I use the latest version of WINE and coax .NET 2.0 into installing. Only issue is that's all it will do, I have to close the UI Patcher then launch UO separately, which I don't mind.

Now I know if you were to move to .NET 2.2 or 3.0 in the future for some reason I wouldn't be able to use the UI Patcher at all, unless you did a Mono Compile of it.

If I'm not mistaken the UI Patcher is going to update the Waypoints.xml as well right? As soon as I see a new version of released I'll see if that makes a huge difference due to file structure and let you know.

About the framework, don't worry I'm sit to framework 2 for years, because I really don't like the new versions... like all the recent microsoft products the new frameworks (4.0 more than others) are really bad things to use (try IE 9 if you want to see the worst browser of ever :D )

yes, the patcher try to update the waypoints too by locating the my documents folder.

When you press start uo/uo patcher EC playsound is invoked and this will requires the directx 9 audiovideoplayback dll :p

:) On my Linux install... My EA Games folder with account settings and info... well there is no My Documents folder for it to go in so I'll have to keep track of that. For me the folder address is /home/nexus/EA Games/Ultima Online Stygian Abyss/

It's why I was saying file structure might come into play. WINE is supposed to re-direct everything that asks for "My Documents" to my "/home" folder... but if it doesn't I'll let you know.

about the directx bug, you could try to download the audiovideoplayback dll maybe it works without the full directx package ;)

Short and to the point this time:

1. Still can't get music to work but it's hardly an important feature really and I don't know why I've kept at it. Besides, it's a pain to specify the sound file, as I cannot get the path and file name to cut and paste from Windows Explorer....In short, nevermind.

2. I cannot "dual client" by running the second client instance using either the Pinco patch route or EC Sounds. No problem....I just open the second one via the "stock" route.

3. The laugh sound is ingenuous and generally silly. Sadly I don't do much laughing in UO, though, so it really doesn't matter.

1. In the latest version it works, just enter the full path with file name once :)
You could make an hotbar and add many playmusic and use it as a playlist ;)

2. That's an intended feature I can change it back if it's too annoying :p

3. The sounds come from the 2d package :D

Hi Pinco,

Just want to report that blacksmith exception bods are not displaying the reward correctly.
e.g. Shadow Iron, 10 count, exceptional, ringmail leggings.
reward: Prospector's tool 40%, Studded Leather Blacksmith glove 20%, garg pickaxe 40%

I think that's the reward for the Normal bod.

Thanks.

reward: Prospector's tool 40%, Studded Leather Blacksmith glove 20%, garg pickaxe 40%

I think that's the reward for the Normal bod.

Thanks.
found the problem, the reward table has the old perc... actually are all 45 45 10 instead of 40 40 20 :)
will be fixed in the next version ;)

Opening two clients, in my case as my meager DSL connection barely supports one, is simply a practical matter. Ever try to rez a swampy on a warrior at the stable? How do you make a character on one of your accounts co-owner of a house on another?

Yeah, I figured those sounds were simply ported over. Free web based flash games have more polish than the "classic" client :) It's like calling an outhouse or a chamber pot a classic toilet.

OK, I've finished the tests on Wine all seems to work fine except 3 things:

1) The news area is not loaded correctly

2) EC Playsound requires the DLL

3) The waypoints go into the My Documents folder that doesn't seems to be the same of /home :/

I have been trying to get the UI-Patcher installed and working - but I keep getting errors no matter what I do.

Reading the thread above:

1.) I believe that I have the UI installed to the correct location.
2.) Checking the add-remove program section in the control panel it looks like I have the .NET Framework 1 and .NET Framework 2 installed.
3.) Checking dxdiag, I have version DirectX 9.0c

Yet I am still getting an error:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

UI Patcher and all his DLLs must go in the main game folder and not under UserInterface.
This error happen when is in the wrong place and can't find the game exe files :p

Thanks. :) That got it.

Now... how do I get the Decor icon-pack installed with it? :p

Same as before? Or is it different with the patcher?

you can have decors textures + icons (by changing the parameters into the UI PAtcher shortcut)

or

just icons by installing them manually :p

Never even messed with the different textures... Guess I'll stick with icons for now. :)

Thanks!

Hmmm... the icons are installed and working, but seems to be missing some... all of the slayer type icons are not there... as well as all of the icons that fill in on the main-hot-bar (paperdoll, skill, guild, chat, backpack, etc.)

I downloaded from: UO Template Editor in the download section. Is there a more current version?

many icons are missing because decors is not updating the package anymore... however a good part is there :)

I had a version of Pinco's interface from just before the patcher went live, and had the Decor's Icons from your site on it - and these icons were all there. Now with the new Patcher interface, they are not. There are not even icons for the main bar that the interface creates (paperdoll, skills, guild, virtue, chat, etc)

Did I do something wrong?

try to remove version.xml and start the patcher again, maybe patching in the wrong place could make some problems :p

I've never used the Playsound, my soundcard and WINE don't play well together so I keep sound off...

Actually here's a video of it running on my Box...

Also opened my "My Documents" folder to show how it redirects automatically to /home.

Like I was saying though it patches, just I can't launch UO with it.. though that might be something goofy on my end tanks to the Distro I'm using.

Removing the version.xml ended up overwriting the icons with the default set. I ended up finding the version of Decor that I had used a couple of weeks ago and inserting it - so it does work now. Thanks for all of the help. :)

The error while opening the UI is due the the missing label, however will be fixed in the next version... to avoid EC PlaySound use: -noplaysound as parameter on the link.

In order to make it works correctly make sure is installed in the main game folder of the game or he can't start the game...

It is in the main game folder, once the error is gone it possibly will launch the game correctly I'll let you know when I get the latest patched in.

well, the next version of the UI Patcher should work on windows and not-windows systems, but it's nothing visible, just internal code :p

The icons will stay something to install manually, so I think you can do the video without problems ;)

Pinco, I have what might sound like a strange request. The problem is I am wearing equipment that has a strength requirement that is lower than my strength before the bonuses for my items is added. This means that when I log in this piece of equipment will drop to my pack. It's a simple matter to hit my dress macro and put it on, but the problem is, I have an old brain, and often I forget to do this.

What I would like is a script that runs when you log in, at the end of all the initial log in actions, that dresses you in whatever you were dressed in when you logged off. So I guess that would also require a script that saves what you are wearing when you log off. I don't know if this is possible, but I can't imagine that I'm the only one that would find this useful. :)

Thanks again Pinco.

Ah of course, makes sense. I guess I'll just have to exercise the old memory or raise the character's strength a bit.

Added updates for:

Third Dawn Texture Package
Copper Texture Package
Third Dawn Icons

Added:

Dermott's Icon Package

All to Pinco's site (Third Dawn icons were emailed to Pinco, the rest posted directly) tonight waiting for approval.

I'm ALMOST caught up! Just have to get Stone up to date, then maybe a new (old) texture package if I can figure out how I want to do it.

Ok, so I downloaded the newest UI, and my backpack looks all funky with a grid in a legacy backpack. I lost the ability to stretch it, so I can't see my runebooks anymore! How do I get the old style back, or stretch this one?

AAAAAH! All my containers are like that! 15 squares isn't enough viewable area in a container! In fact, I wish I could permanently stretch my bank to show 50. When you make a check for 1,000,000 and the check doesnt appear at the top so you can stick it in a bag. You have to scroll and hunt for it. Then you have to stick it in your bag and scroll the box up. I looked in the options and there doesn't seem to be any way to modify that...
just disable the grid legacy containers from user settings -> pinco's ui
Is there any place for me to change the default setting for this (and other settings) for new characters?
