They have officially said it’s okay to use unapproved third party programs on paid accounts so everyone will continue to do so. Since the approved client still doesn’t work. Was just EJ accounts people can’t play. It’s also pretty clear that the devs must play Orion also. Or else they would’ve surely by now noticed this weird glitchy thing that happens on the approved clients when you touch the south side of housing and the whole screen shakes and goes crazy and your character can’t move up or left or right?? Who’s going to pay to play that?

I happily play every day using EC client. I do wonder how many people complaining about CC's small screen don't know that it can go to 1280 x 720? or is it that everyone is trying to play on a television screen so that it's still too small?

I'm not sure either. When I put up my map, paper doll, backpack, second container, and skill sheet. Bandage pack to the edge and pet gain screen to the edge. My screen is full.

BTW it is called a 3d game. Maybe stick to Mario games where you can play in a 2d world.

We thought it was pretty neat when you could go in front of or behind objects in a game.

I've been playing on and off since the beta and they'll just have to ban me if it comes to either using CC or EC without any modern updates. I don't even macro or pvp anymore, I have every item and skill I need. I don't sell anything. But if it came to having to choose between a 6FPS client/or a client with the most embarrassingly awful graphics I've ever seen, it will without a doubt be the choice to not play.

Now if they added an option to replace every EC graphic with CC equivalents and modern QoL improvements, we can begin talking about switching over.

With all that being said, I think they know they can't ban modern clients. I highly doubt the CC/EC population just is large enough to justify keeping UO running.

And to get ahead of the train, I don't care if someone calls it cheating. That simply doesn't matter to me. As long as I enjoy the lands and her people, that's all that matters.

so, hot take here, we have seen this before.
remember years ago they brought in..... oh what was it called..... cheatbuster or something like that.
i cant recall, but i remember they brought in a cheat detector.
in fact they said after they shut it down that they had been running it for a long while before they told us they had it running so they already knew who was running what.
and then they decided against using it.
obviously because it would kill off a large number of their player base at the time.
but it makes me wonder why now?
the biggest 3rd party program or at least the longest running one is pretty much dead now as the fella that runs it and updates it has retired, or at least last i looked he had.
so who now?
seems strange.

and my 2nd question is are they really just looking to nail the but guys.
the guys running 8 throwers in a Slayer room auto looting and auto healing and rail running back to the bank to deposit loot.
or are they gonna be scooping up the old guy who is running a macro loop on his UOassist?

They don't have the best track record on getting things right unfortunately. Look what happened with Hawkwind's, that was a huge revert, look how many people were getting jailed during the event because the people cheating were paging on the people just playing normally. I really hope innocent people don't get caught up with this 'detecting' software thing but who knows? We don't actually know what they are detecting.

You guys may be fine playing on your antiques, but good luck bring old players back in when they start up UO on their modern computer. Change the game play window size to max and this is what you see with 4k resolution.

You can change your resolution. The game is not 4k so make it fit.

Exactly. I'm running three 34" 4k monitors and there is no way in hell I can play this game in the CC. And while the EC can support the higher resolution it's fubar just like the CC. Both official clients have so many bugs and things that don't work right I don't know how they can expect anyone to only play on those.

Look we can talk resolution/window size all day, and I agree, but the frame rate is honestly the worst part. Lack of QoL is next. Even if you were to solve window size, it's still a ****ty experience.

I can login to nl but can't turn off dark nights. Only shard that is like that which has me concerned. I don't want use it if it is unapproved and results in a ban, but it's the only computer I have at the moment

Is there an approved way to get it working on a Linux system? From the thread I saw on there it's uoa uoam and uomapper, that are approved 3rd party apps. I'm not looking to cheat I just want to play legally without getting banned.

I can login to nl but can't turn off dark nights. Only shard that is like that which has me concerned. I don't want use it if it is unapproved and results in a ban, but it's the only computer I have at the moment

Pretty sure the dark nights are part of the shard gimmick.

Buy a spellbook. Have someone make you a nightsight scroll. Can cast with 0 skill. Lurg in the dark is not fun.

You don't have to frustrate yourself. It's just a beta. If you aren't having fun it's fine to put it down. I did. I plan on returning to it on release. Betas are usually wiped.

I think getting rid of the third party programs is fine, but at the same boat you need to fix your current clients. EC looks terrible, but has good functionality. Classic looks great, but runs terribly and has 0 functionality. Cannot macro pots for pvp, your resolution settings are 20 years outdated etc. Shouldn't be forced to use 1/4 of your monitor due to lack of updates.

they’ve added a lot to their macro list I’m recent history, so where I don’t even really need to use UOA anymore with the exception of recordable macros.

Yea but 1280x720 is tiny in 2024, it might've been ok in the early 2000's.
On a 32inch screen, that resolution is a joke on my screen.
Why they can't add the same zoom and resolution features as that unofficial ClassicUO client is beyond me.

Back then screens were small and screen resolutions were small. Below is how UO at max resolution looks on an average screen at 2024. The other problem is the graphics on EC. I am ok with playing on EC. Some of my guildmates say it gives them migraine, but almost all hate it even if they dont get migraine.

Max resolution for me. Not sure whats worse, teh game play area on Classic or the Enhanced Clients "enhanced" artwork.

Theres nothing wrong with using wine. And, if one day they decided to block it - somehow - you could just run a windows vm in virtualbox or something similar.

ClassicUO also works on MacOS. ClassicUO in and of itself doesn't have any scripting or full automation features. Also, the plug-in that gives folks the ability to script will not install on MacOS.

Running MacOS / Parallels to run WinOS, to run the native UO Classic Client might trigger the warden... false positive.

they’ve added a lot to their macro list I’m recent history, so where I don’t even really need to use UOA anymore with the exception of recordable macros.

When I checked like 2 months ago, there was nothing for setting up a keybind to drink pots, dress, box, apple, or mount/dismount. Realistically they just add CC graphics to EC and there'd be little complaints, but here we are.

You can’t really use ANY of the useobject macros in uo except trapped box, because there’s no message at all when you run out of that object and press that macro, just nothing happens and you’d think your keyboard is broken or something.
