We all know it is NOT a 5 min job but there have been tons of CC users posting this for YEARS that if they wanted to get CC users over to EC then this needs to be done.

a old friend of mine who i have played with for..... holy 20 years?
we went out and did a champ spawn the other night, actually 2 nights in a row.
he does not check the forums, at all.
never has.
nor does he read patch notes.
he just logs in and plays when we have time to meet up.
so i was a little surprised when i was catching him up on some of the news releases and i was telling him about the war on 3rd party programs and he asked when that was starting up, I told him it kicked in last month on like the 22nd.
slight pause.
he says.... so i shouldn't have been running 'unmentioned 3rd party program' these last 2 nights while we did the spawn????
i checked in with him daily last couple days, no email, no 72 hour vacation.
soooo..... no start on the war?

The only thing about this for me is that smoke bomb and trapped box will crash my client when I use them through UO macros (rather than UOA). I haven't really bothered to figure out why (I stopped using the UO macros after the 3rd time it crashed me) but it seems to be whenever I use a "new" stack of bombs or a different trapped box? I typically stack my smoke bombs on my thief in piles of 2-3 so I'll use a few and be fine but then when I've hit the macro again 5-10min later and it crashes. I've brought it up before and someone said maybe it's something to do with my files (I haven't ever touched them so not sure if that makes sense but maybe).I think you need to check again:
Dress equips all items stored within the corresponding Record Dress macro. For example, Dress -> Dress1 equips items saved in Record Dress -> Record Dress1. Swaps out equipment in-use with the equipment specified.
UseObject Select a consumable or object from the list to use:
- Heal Potion
- Cure Potion
- Refresh Potion
- Strength Potion
- Agility Potion
- Explosion Potion
- Conflagration Potion
- Enchanted Apple
- PetalsOfTrinsic
- OrangePetals
- TrappedBox
- SmokeBomb
- HealStone
- SpellTrigger
Long story short - I use UOA for all of these because it's more reliable for me.
As requested by Merlin, im not to mention 3rd party clients here so I will respect that.
Its the automation + free account at this time that is the issue.
Paid account:
Not speaking to 3rd party clients, this statement is speaking to automation or AFK farming [tamer letting their pet run around while they are hidden etc.] - As long as the person is able to respond to a GM, they won't get a temp ban. If you fail to respond to a GM then ya get a ban. I seen a couple different types of bans over the past nearly 30 years.
What happens to a Paid Account that violates AFK and or automation and is Actioned:
1] Your character is disconnected and when you log back in your in bucc's gate room
2] Banned for 24 hours to 3 days.
The Process
Before your DC'd the GM will take you to a locked off area in a dungeon and try to talk to you. I have actually talked to a GM while in there and still got a 24 hour ban. I even protested via emailed. In my email I made the case that the News Letter says as long as we respond to the GM we won't get banned. And, I did in fact respond to the GM in the ported away location. I did receive a response but I can't directly recall what it was [many years ago]... accept the temp ban would stand and my account was noted.
I can also confirm - if a GM does message you, and you do not see the message, they will appear in game at your location. At that point, even if your in a spawn you must respond to them. Once you do, they will be on their way and nothing to worry about.
That has been our past experience.
I can also confirm recently using a MacOS client in NL test shard I was DC'd after about 15 seconds. I was on my paid account and did not get banned. I logged in to my home shard and played just fine. Clearly they have implementation to deal with the MacOS client when we try to play on NL Test shard. I suspect at this point in time they are hoping we would conform to EC or CC.
I know many of us have slowly dissolved our UO accounts. I suspect more folks will jump to other options out there then play with the CC/EC clients. We don't pvp so our issues with the CC/EC is strictly visually. +... we have a grandfathered account with 2 houses on it.... not sure if I could let that go.... I might though!

I found using the - save dress commands 1,2,3 & 4 sometimes crashes the CC client too. *sigh*
Currently the good clients use an older version of the art files. The new assets for NL are encoded in a different way (the same way as the DAoC files). When you try to use it in NL, the client trys to access files that don't exist which cause it to disconnect and crash. Your home shard doesn't require the new files since nothing new was added, so it works fine until they update the regular shards. The solution is apparently already developed but not yet released.
I still don't see any evidence that they can detect what client is being used.
This "war on 3rd party programs" is going to be the equivalent of me saying that I'm declaring a war on fish, then going fishing for 10 minutes, not catching anything, and coming back and saying "oh those sneaky fish, I guess I lost the war."

Well they have at least temporarily banned EJ accounts and issued warnings to paying

I still use CC "Last object" followed by "Last Target" as a macro for a lot of things - probably my most common base UO macro, unless running my tamers, in which case I have UOAsist macros for multiple consecutive bandages on my pet.

I fixed that for ya. I agree with what you are saying that the war on 3rd party is more of a direct target (EJ accounts using rail scripts) than an overall focus on illegal 3rd party programs and probably not really do much. That said, I've suspected for some time now that the numbers we've seen on the (previously known) "monthly" newsletter have been fluffed (or at least double/tripled counted with the same person with multiple EJ accounts) so it wouldn't surprise me if they do the same on "Banned accounts for 3rd party use".
Also, as a general rule of thumb, it's well known that fisherman & golfers are some of the biggest embellishing people on earth and the only difference is that fisherman typically embellish up and a golfer embellish their score down... "Yea that par 5... that was a birdie for me"
Ej accounts may have a small or no affect for the real cheaters. I say real cheaters because thye run so many accounts and they sell gold for real money. it isnt a game for them it is a job. I know many of them and they are not concerned by this banning joke because.... they make so much real money selling rares, EM items, and gold. why is that a problem? they don't pay a sub like it was designed. $13 a month or $100 a year. they have a VPN, and a separate account that buys all the game time codes and store items for a signifcantly lower price than the legit subscribers. It was told to me while discussing it in discord that they pay on the average $4 a month per account which as a sub they are not worried about this threat. They also said they could care less about a account ban because of the low price they pay they can just pop another $4 account macro it away and be back to running 5-10 accounts at every EM event. almost every EM drop will yield you 75M - 1plat depending on the EM's design. but that is all fine since the end result is they are selling gold for cash and can make a living off of it. I do not PvP mostly because I have no need for the banter it generates in general chat. secondly because as a CC user I do not have Auto target, Auto pot chugger, Auto evade, Auto avoid collision, a I win button without having to actually use the button, ect ect.. The old client is pretty antique and i so on that point i get it why they love the 3rd party programs.. they run smoother, can resize the play screen, macro, ect.. would be cool though to stop the 3rd party programs for a bit just to put all the pvp people back to a even playing field. it might even get some trammies to go back to fel and try to pvp again..

I'd assume 3rd party clients are still working even on ej accounts
In a different thread (unleashed) there was someone posting there was a new update to a 3rd party so it's compatible with UO again... I assume this is what he means.
