Pinco,

Can you add a toggle for the corpse loot to NOT constantly shift around? It is a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE for EM event corpses as things literally zip around the corpse box.

It makes looting almost completely impossible :(

can't be done, the labels are docked to the world object, and actually it's impossible to retrive the coordinates of an item/mobile so I'm unable to put the label in a fixed place :(

Would it be possible to add the mobs that have faction labels to the database? (silver serpents, wisps, demons, ogre lords - not sure what, if anything, else)

I think is enough to remove the faction tag and treat them like plain cretures :p

Yep, that would work as well.

I have just upgraded your ui from just before you removed the menu bar to the latest version. When i log in now, my backpack reverts to a very small size and there is no grid or contents (its just a black square). I can get the contents back by clicking the grid toggle twice but this problem arises every time I open the backpack. There is also no lock on the backpack now.

The skills screen now shows one skill per tab and question marks for all other entries.

I don't know if it is relevant, but my spell icons are 2 different colors now; yellow and grey.

I have down loaded the latest ui 3 times now.

Any help appreciated.

you made a common mistake.
upgrade to a new version requires that you remove completely the previous version and install it again.
Overwrite an old version may cause this kind of problems :p

I've been working with Pinco these last few days to finish up a project of mine - DFMOD. Here's a preview of what it looks like. Below you have the paper doll ( with a dark background to hide the ugly paper doll masks ), the inventory without a grid, and the status bar, party bar, and target bar.

Not only does this mod change the way pinco's mod looks, but it also makes it much, much easier to create a new skin for it. I'm finishing up the first build of it now - hopefully it will be released very shortly :)

Glad you have a chance to work with him Nalif, my luck with the Git system has been minimal at best which has made it difficult for me to upload anything at all to the Exchange.

I have uploaded Third Dawn Texture Pack 1.6 up to Pinco's site (awaiting approval) which will update some of the icons to match the UI. Granted not all of the icons are done. The Slayers I have not yet done, however the Menu and Pinco UI based ones have been updated.

And of course now there are about 3x more icons I gotta revamp.

The next version of Third Dawn will most likely be a complete revamp into Nalif's system (again Nalif, I apologize on the Exchange issues, I've got to get Illandril to really walk me through getting stuff set up to go back and forth so I can get things working again on that front) as well as more icon revamps.

I REALLY want to get the darker background onto the paperdoll though.

gift of renewal has a timer per target not an unique timer for all so is impossible to add it....

I've tried with all kind of summon and still working.... if you are speaking about the necromancer animated deads, those one are not considered your pets so will not be shown in the pet bar.

Erm, its not labels that is a problem... Since your update to make the corpse loot update properly and not show ghost images - where you also included an auto sort...

Since then, when you open an public corpse, all you see is objects moving around at random. Nothing stays still. I know that Malag-aste also has this problem.

I'd like the ability to turn your autosorting OFF. So that when someone moves an item, the UI doesn't automatically move the next item into the old item's slot.

no sorting = ghost items.
adding a toggle is not a big problem, but ghost items are a big problem in public corpses...

the choice is your :)

I apologize in advance because this MUST have be asked and answered before but I can't find the exchange on this thread.

Where is the basic UI toolbar hiding....the one on the lower right that give you access to your skills, map, user options, actions, macros, exit game, war mode on/off? It vanished when I installed this interface, alas, and rebooting and reinstalling was to no avail, alas.

It has been done away with now you create a hot bar and go into the actions menu and there are several new tabs in there such as skills etc that you can drag into the hot bar and customize the bar to have what you want on it!

Ah!

What I initially interpreted as "missing" was indeed, after I followed your directions, a feature. You're not stuck with the default bar. Very nice.

Only one fatal error thus far. When I reset my ignore list, the client crashes, will not restart properly unless I restart my computer and, when it does restart it blows away my settings and sets all the sound volumes to maximum. The last bit was actually amusing because I had forgotten how much I'd adjusted all the settings....in particular how loooo I'd set music volume in favor of purely tactical sounds which I have set very high. Had to yank my headphones off my head at the opening screen :)

Going through all the options was yet another reminder of how little I know. After all, no game is so hell bent on chasing new players away quite the way UO is and this mod is strictly for veteran players. You can get by the "you're new, f*ck you," 20 skill point, 5 stat point, you can't use this and you can't use that penalties by buying an old, blank account, which I did. But that's just points.

I am still overwhelmed at times by the accepted level of obtuseness endemic in the game. In some places this UI makes up for that. There is, for example, quite an elaborate description of the usefulness of scissors when you mouse over them in your backpack.

Anything with the word, legacy, attached always means a deep swamp that can only be traversed wearing some game item that has to be a tenth year veteran reward. It took several tries to get functional displays on my backpack and containers without extraneous leather, wood, or metal borders. And that whole business of recuse/rescue/j'accuse...whatever the hell those two made up words are have no tooltips but needn't for this UI's intended audience. I'm still getting used to players coming up to the bank and firing off novel length macroed phrases..."Buy bank guards rescu redux..." and more that I cannot recall. I trust a bank box opens at the end of it all.

And I guess nobody rides Ki-Rins anymore. That gorgeous little magic casting steed was not among the mount icons. I'm not quite sure what those icons do anyway though I'm sure it's something quite useful.

Removing a pet from the stable was interesting. In the Lucitus mod, a health bar appears when you do with a little green button allowing you to change its name if you want. With this I did manage to get a pet bar to appear but its green dot could be called the Betty Ford button as clicking it detoxed my Hiryu. Another button cast Greater Heal. I'm sure my Hiryu would have assurred me that he'd not gotten into a fight in the stables and was just fine - really - if it could talk. I don't think I'd like my pets to talk, though, as I tend to put them through so much idiotic hell.

The Map icon brings up a map. No surprise there. But the option to turn it into a small tactical circle map escaped me. I did like the option to get rid of the maddening skewing of UO maps that tilt the entire world to the northeast.

In short, although it lacks the Teutonic clarity of the Lucitus Interface I'm certain I will appreciate this one more as I learn more about the game. Besides, I don't think the concept of clarity fits with Ultima Online: the "you have to have been there to be here" MMO.

Yes, this UI is not easy to use like the lucitus one, cause there are much more things and I have a lot to do to keep it working and up to date.
But be a guide is something in my TODO list :p

Few hints for begin to use it:

1) User settings has 3 context menus Pinco's UI and 2 Customize. In there you'll find everything you could need :)

2) The pet bar and mobiles on screen are always visible, first time usually they appears on the top-right corner of the screen

3) every healthbar has the button for heal and cure on the top left

4) the radar map has been removed because was bugged and has LOT less functions than the atlas. Just open the atlas, resize it and use the scale mode to make it little (if is too big for you). The compass can easily help you to know where the north is :p

5) The "extraneous leather, wood, or metal borders" are the grid legacy container, made to help the step from CC to EC. Many CC user could appreciate the old graphic with the new grid/list feature.
From the user settings can be disabled. You can also scale it if you have the scale mode active.

6) To rename pets just say: "I wish to rename into <NEW NAME>" then target the pet. This allow you to give any kind of name to your space and to use symbol and spaces ;)

About the clear ignore list, I have to take a look into it, thanks for the report :)

If you have any more question just ask, and I'll help you to solve your problems :)

I still miss the radar map - maybe I'm oldschool that way.

What bugs me most about the atlas is the header (Where the facet is displayed). If I remeber correctly, one could minimize it in Dermotts UI - any chance of adding that option? Or is it already in and I simply overlook it?

*tears* Oh my friend, you have managed to conjure up more belly laughs for me than just about anyone else I have had the pleasure of "meeting" in quite some time. You'll find, if you manage to make some social connections in the game, that people will answer most of your questions for you (except in regard to this UI). I'm constantly amazed by just how much some people know about this game.

scale the window, I can't add the dermott way of minimize because I've added the compass and the available space will be greatly reduced...

and you can't use that

It's quite appalling actually. 1000 gold, a candle, a book to type WTF into and drop at the bank, and being told - every time you login - "You are too young to receive a gift," all the while seeing folks getting dressed down on General (or what I call Radio Fel after midnight) for being "such a noob!"

Seek not the red glowing egg.

But this has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with this powerful UI mod. The sheer volume and power of its capabilities simply reminded me how little I know is all. Only the stump dumbest of fools, or people on the Atlantic Shard, would complain that someone took the pains to create it.

Pinco:

Yes, I played many years ago and I do indeed understand why you created so many ways for folks to make the transition. And I did read the readme and saw the command line for renaming pets, along with so many others. Apart from the fatal error I mentioned that blew everything to hell (I won't hit THAT button again) it was fun learning how to set it all up. I wish you could grab icons from hotbar slots and move them to other slots while you're getting it all sorted, but that's a nit.

I'm not sure what you mean about the circular map being bugged. Perhaps if I knew who was listening I would have turned it off on my own. I trust the party member icons still appear on its replacement. And, as I said, I do indeed appreciate the fact that north is now north, meaning UP on the map. For the longest time I was always going NNW when told to go North. It's true in the real world too, given magnetic variation, but I found it odd to have it modeled in a game.

One thing I found quite interesting were the icons for all those equipment swap outs. My characters are nearly all tamers grafted onto other things. UO is often a Massively Single Player game and I feel rather vulnerable traveling around without a combat ally that lights up the stars of the Pet Power Calculator. And this means you need one set of items for when you go to the stables and another set for when you're fighting. You'd have to be half daft, or someone on the Atlantic Shard, to believe that All Kill is all of much of anything.

Same goes for the slayers. Now I don't have to pause to recall if <alt> R equips me with my Repond or my Reptile slayer spellbook.

And the server boundaries.....I can't believe this game still has those things....are a great addition to the improved map. Tamers have had to learn of them the hard way. They're the point at which the angry beast that's chasing you turns into a cruise missile.

Splendid work, Pinco. Creating a User Interface for this game is an exercise in making the obtuse sensible. It's an old game. Earlier MMOs were far worse. You spent your first three to six months just trying to understand the interface in those early games before you could have a prayer of understanding the game itself.

However the clear ignore item list works fine, probably is just a case what happen... maybe your computer was ready to crash and happen exactlty when you click that macro :D
One thing is sure, do not exist any UI script able to destroy your computer or your settings :)

If you can make a char on the TC1 and try there so you don't lose your settings, but I tried in many ways and that function work perfectly :p

yes it can be done with a switch and there is on the pinco map an arrow you can click and rotate the map

if you are using another mod or no mod you can use the following
put the following into a command prompt found under the actions tab

/script MapWindow.Rotation = 0

for the atlas and

/script RadarWindow.Rotation = 0

for the Radar.

and on the second command prompt

/script MapWindow.Rotation = 45

for the atlas and

/script RadarWindow.Rotation = 45

for the Radar.

so all total you will have 2 commands one for 0 and 1 for 45 degrees

the map rotation can be done by the checkbox on the map "Tilt Map"
but the radar cannot be restored... just use the atlas and scale it if you want a little map :p

You can do all that with the big map now. All you have to do is make as small as you can, then shrink it using the scale mode.

The two events are most likely unrelated now that I think of it. Silly of me not to think of it, having been a game dev myself for 18 years, but it should have occurred to me that I'd never flushed my ignore list before. That I happened to do so for the first time while setting up your UI should never have led me to the cause/effect flabby minded conclusion I came to. Another point to consider is that I have characters on Atlantic, meaning that I have 60 or more people on my ignore list. Not sure if the EC was meant to even keep a list that long.

Now, regarding maps, this whole aligned with the world thing falls under the heading of all maps because all maps are wrong. We choose the one that's wrong in the way that works best for us. We still use Mercator projection, for example, in the physical world because it was useful for navigation despite the fact that it renders parts of the world, such a Greenland, as a small fraction of their actual relative size compared to, say, Europe.

But the world of UO is not round and its maps are not a flat representation of a spherical object. Rather its camera angle is skewed to give a 2D world the illusion of greater depth. The world itself - the layout of its towns and streets - follows a N/S/E/W layout. The fact that many have oriented their minds to see the compass points skewed clockwise 45 degrees is an adaptation that is not new user friendly. It's yet another obtuse adaptation the uninitiated must unnecessarily make and yet another locked door new players have to figure out how to get through.....the unintended game puzzle.

Believe me, though, I understand. I use a mouse in reverse: I move the mouse down to move the cursor up and vice versa. Why? Because I've been flying airplanes since age 4 (though not legally or solo until many years after that) and the airplane joystick (a sweet Piper J4) was the first movement control device I ever operated. Pull back on the stick to point the nose up and forward to point the nose down. And mice were an option on the PC when I first played a computer game which was....yes, an air combat simulation using a joystick. When I first grabbed a mouse I turned it around so that it would operate "properly."

If I were somehow put in charge way back when of interfacing a pointing device with a computer that is, of course, how I would have arranged it. Despite the fact that I would have been fired, had such a scheme been adopted it would have created yet another barrier for people to learn how to use the personal computer....not that they are remotely easy to use anyway.

Fortunately this UI mod gives you the option.

Oops....forgot a couple of questions that are important to me:

  1. Is there an option to have the client display spell names rather than the faux Latin made-up names? This is a feature of Lucitus that I've grown rather attached to as Corp Por makes no sense whereas what is being cast is an Energy Bolt. Actually that's a poor example as Corp Por has become part of the MMO lexicon and you can even buy Corp Por tee shirts, but you get the idea. Kal Des Flam Yiem or however it's spelled would be a better example.

  2. Where did total points go on the skills dialog? Did I lose it through rescaling? It's rather useful knowing how many skill points you have left.

Many thanks :)
