Dragons Buffed on Test?

G

I'm probably just ignorant here, but I went into Destard on test and beat on a regular dragon, and it hit me for 72 a pop and proc'ed bleed quite often... this on a toon with 70s resists. Needless to say, I nearly died a few times. They are not that hard on normal shards, right? I was just there on Napa and it was cake.

So, did I miss the announcement of a buff-up or is it all in my imagination?

If this is another stealth fix like Dread Spiders...it'll make my barbed leather even more valuable. It was already worth 200gp per, apparently. At least that's what people have been buying barbed for lately.

Cool. Looks like I get to leave my melee skills on the soulstone permanently and stay as an archer.

This is a change I've seen alot of requests for.

Personally I think it'd be a good change for all legacy monsters to get a boost.

While they're at it they can equal out the damage and swing speed across legacy weapons to make them as strong as the ML weapons.

And loot tables too.

And T map chests.

I just made my production char on test (or "duped him"
)

After about 30 minutes of killing dragons, I can say for absolute certainity that dragons are no harder on test then on my production shard.

while it would be nice......it is not yet so..

I just lored one on test center. Here's the stats.

1729 HP
1251 STR
118 DEX
547 INT

78 physical
66 fire
42 cold
57 poison
63 energy

100% physical damage, base damage 24-33

144.5 wrestling
126.7 tactics
121.8 magic resist
0 anat
134.8 magery
47.2 eval int
0 med

I'd say it's a huge change compared to our old and familiar dragons. I only lored one dragon so far, so I'll check out some more to confirm.

EDIT:
I found another dragon with normal stats.

I have no idea what's going on.

EDIT #2:
The super dragon is apparently a 5 slotter. I tried taming it on an ethy, but it said I had too many followers. So I got off the ethy (control slots = 0 now), and I started an attempt, only to die after a 60 damage fire breath and about 60 from its claws.

Hey that's a pretty cool idea. Making 'super dragons' (over twice as powerful as normal dragons) that are tameable, but take up 5 slots. Wonder which Dev thought it up. And good deductive work yourself.

You sure those suckers are only on test?

I just had a dragon REMOVE my orange petal poison protection ( I ate it just about 10 seconds before I started fighting it, and less than 30 seconds later died from poison - no indication that it wore off either), then when I went back in, the damn thing DISARMED ME. This was on Lake Austin. It killed me FOUR TIMES on a character I've been hunting dragons with for 5 years wtihout that kind of difficulty.

I would -love- to see mobs increase in strength (skills, stats, even additional abilities, loot table) over time.

It would make killing even low end monsters worth while, cause given the time, they would become high end mobs.

That alone would create a very simple dynamic spawn environment.

With stats like that and special weapon abilities like bleed and disarm, I'm imagining Chrissay or Draconi laughing their arses off playing cat and mouse with test shard players...

If they make legacy monsters a lot harder, I sure hope they'll buff t-chest loot. If we're going back to an age where t-maps require a group effort again, current loot tables are a joke. I might just abandon it all together...

I hope the devs will understand cause and effect. If not, consider this a friendly reminder...

If this is the case. PLEASE reconsider a few things.

<ul>
[*]Champion Spawns
[*]Dismount tamers in PVP
[*]Reconsider specials, its allready overpowered like hell with runebeetles
[/list]

Im all for new challenges for PVM'rs and the like, but please, please, please dont do this and make it like it was with dread spiders on champs. Its gonna have to be fixed again later, so save yourself the work!

Mine killed me, oh, four times? Five? Six even? Before a shard buddy dived in to throw me some heals/cures whilst lead taming this bad boy on foot. FUN!

Highest hit points TAMED I've seen is 802 with its magery at a mere 119.2...

And, boys &amp; girls, prepare yourselves for public outcry, because they have a bleed special.

O Beat me, bite me, make me tame dragons on foot...

I am in love.

"Squee!"

*You see: Nico cooing at her 5-slotter dragon*

Psst...I know. I know.

Maybe just...you know...allow me to enjoy my bad boy for a little while. Please?

I'll even let you test him in TC1 Felly, if ya like.

So, if this is the case, will the WW's be buffed as well?
And will this change happen to drags already tamed/bonded or legacy dragon pets?

DEVS you make me happy.
Started as one of first pvp tamer 1997.

I was 1997 pvp tamer then vent for 5 years eq-1.Then i red pets boinding and started as young player again to make pvp tamer.
Some called me on my old shard the legend becasue i was the insane pvp tamer.
And now dragons get better obvously i rarley use when i play pvp tamer a rhuenbeetle i used rpg style a weak dragon.
And now this change as in old goog knight movies dragons get better.
Its like im born new.Thank you.

Does anyone have real facts?

Some people say the dragons on shards now are beefed...

How rare are these dragons on TC...

Are they even going to pass QA?

Do you think that some of these dragons that aren't beefed are just a fluke? that they are trying to code for all dragons to be better.

Not yet, Oz, I've not had an opportunity to compare the shads and ancients against the new uber dragon.

Once I spotted the thread, I had to hit TC1 whilst my daughter was at school and very much after the work-stuff which puts food on the table... Man, that was tough, too! Can we say "torture" &amp; "gruelling self-discipline?"

I wasn't able to test for nearly as long as I'd have liked. Tonight though, I am so there!

It won't be hard to spot me; my TC1 char is also called Nico.

If there's more than one Nico, then I'll be the one drooling rapturously all over herself whilst being thoroughly burninated...

I am in Destard on TC1.

Shadow Wyrm has 500 or so hp, 1000 str.

Ancient Wyrm has 1300 or so hp, 1400 str.

Dragon has 1300 hp as well.

Drake, wyvern, giant serpent and daemon appear unchanged.

Ilshenar: Ancient Wyrm has 1384 hp, BD 160, wrestle 112

Heading for serpentine.

Ok, there was a "normal" dragon I saw on the way out of Destard, so not all dragons are beefed.

The ones that are seem comparable to the ancient wyrms.

Shadows and serpentines seem unchanged, or I didn't see the rare one.

25%....Not sure if it is that many, I had trouble finding one.

On the first test (Listed above) I was in Destard for 30 minutes and never got one.

Today I found one.

The dragon will teleport onto you ( a plus in my book ) so chars like the Archer Bard I was using are at risk.
The dragon will teleport onto you repeatedly, so getting a tele - claw attack - tele claw attack can be fatal! you have to stay on your toes. (Another plus in my book)

I matched my production shard archer bard in terms of equipment and skills, except the tailsman and ring / bracelet. On the production shard I have max HCI / DI, but could not reproduce that on test since I did not have the jewelry. On test I used the Bracelet of Health, and that is probably what saved me from dying to this beast.

I was able to reduce the dragon to full red in about 20 or so hits, not bad...however 100 arrows later it was still alive, and still all red on its healthbar.

Once all red, the dragon had enough mana to cast heal repeatedly, along with multiple flamestrikes and other high level spells. A faster bow would have worked better I suspect, or a char that could drain the dragons mana. Possibly my prod char, where I can hit for 200 points on a dragon, and miss a lot less, would have done better then the test char, who was hitting for 100-120.

After 300 arrows, and the dragon still all red on its health bar, I left without killing it. End result, I never died to the dragon (But came very close many times) and the dragon never died to me.

This really reminded me of the times pre Trammel when I would kill dragons on Fire Island, and it took about 100 arrows, and at the time was a pretty fun challange.

Hopefully the devs will put some of this into production. Perhaps, as some of the posters above mentioned, a few balance tweeks would be good.....but this was a fun challange all in all.

Aye, but tameable.

The one I lored had higher wrestling skill than ancient wyrm.

Don't forget tamed creatures get stat and skill loss after taming if I remember right.

In my opinion tamers are not overpowered in pvp, except on Siege, where bonded pets should count as your Siege blessed item. I've seen plenty of tamers, both skill players with lots of resources at their disposal, and less skilled players with fewer resources at their disposal, try to be a dismount tamer in pvp, or any kind of tamer. I've seen very few that have had any amount of success. Most end up dead with dead pets, fairly quickly, and realize it isn't as easy as they thought it was going to be, give up and go back to their dexxer/mage, because they have more success that way.

The real problem with tamers in pvp is that most "real" pvp'rs just don't like them, in part because a skilled tamer will force you to change your tactics, and in part for the same reason many people dislike anything, they've decided they aren't cool and they simply don't like them (in other words for no real reason). Most pvp'rs won't be happy until tamers are completely out of pvp, and if they succeed in that quest, I'll be ending my subscriptions to UO and moving on.

As for whether these new dragons will be over powered in pvp. I'm not so sure they will be any more deadly than a beetle or dragon combination with a bake or a mare. They will be nasty, no doubt, but I don't think they will be any nastier than those combinations, and you can't be mounted and use them at all.

And there are changes coming down the pipe that will likely make all pets less effective in pvp than they already are. By the time SA is released, it will be possible for just about any veteran player to put together an all 70's suit with all the mods they could wish for. This means that players are going to become, on average, much stronger, relative to mobs in general, including pets, which will make pets less effective in pvp. Unless proficiencies are back on the table, in which case what I just said will not be true...

edit: And both Nico and I have already tamed at least one dragon each on Test, so they are definitely tamable. As has already probably been said, they are a five slot pet.

edit again: They are like hiryu's, cu sidhe and reptalons in that their stats are halved after taming, but they are still badass without a doubt, even after that.

as much as I love test shard craziness at times, things like this should really be addressed and considered when doing it. A friend linked me here in a panic that it might be something in an upcoming publish.
I'm sure it's simply a bit of fun and not an actual planned change to production shards, we have enough problems with tamers pets as it is, throwing this in the mix would be amazingly stupid, although some might disagree, our glorious developers aren't stupid.

Turns out that there was some stuff on TC1 that was totally not supposed to be there - QA hasn't even looked at it yet. We're pulling it down and returning it to the build that's on Origin right now (same as live but with database tweakage.)

eh I dont think it would be a huge deal in pvp. Hiryus hit for 42 on 70 phys but nobody uses them because you can outrun one on foot pretty easily; same for dragons. Although the teleport might be funny.

"Upcoming dragon invasion?"

Napa Valley already had one of them. Was shortly before they dumped the EM program. Yew on Napa Valley is surrounded by wooden fortifications that are not finished because we didn't get 60k of every wood collected at EM Theowulf's house. Kind of sad too, you would think that some scripter out there could of at least had half a heart to donate 60k of each wood type (A pittance to scripters) to help fortify Napa Valley's Yew. During the Despise Siege on Britain however Napa Valley was the only shard to completely max out the amount of boards/ingots contributed to the Defenses, so in the pass to Despise there's some unique fortifications and the pass to the Brit X-Roads has some too.

dragon should be buffed no doubt imho. it should be king of the beasts in sosaria and not have less hitpoints than some purple tiny bird.

speaking of king of the beasts why dont we have lion prides running thru the forests here?
