[UO Herald] Jeremy Bids Farewell

I really feel that we shouldn’t make any assumptions. There could be a hundred reasons why this happened and it isn’t for us to know. We can only hope that whatever transpired will be the best move for Jeremy, and our beloved game! I have faith that whatever happened was necessary, no matter who’s decision it was.

Like it or not, it’s a game to us but its business for them… and a job for Jeremy. I try to equate it to my own experience in the office. You never know what’s going on unless you are there! These are real people with real lives, show them that you understand that.

Best of luck to you Jeremy! Guys, I know Joanne pretty well and I'm sure she will do a great job. (She makes really tasty pumpkin cookies too!)

I'm sure i'm not alone when I say this..

People have takin over alot of positions but yet still seem to find the time and come on here, introduce themselves and tell us what they will be doing in the future for the game we all know and love.
Working on a week now and no posts from this "Joanne". Is she real, one must ask. Maybe she is busy with other games and was just thrown into Jeremy's position which then is left on the shoulder of UO and bad judgement to us the players.
Oh well, like always just keep checking back to see if she takes 5 minutes to come introduce herself... {Won't hold breath or keep refreshing the page as I feel that will be wasting to much time, waiting on something that should of been done 4 days ago}.

Although I think it's great that the devs come here to introduce themselves and discuss stuff with us - I think we need to stop and remember that they don't have to.

In fact, during the first years of my playing UO, the devs didn't visit here at all, except maybe a short note from the producers on a very rare occasion. It hasn't been till recent years that the devs have come forth and been so open and interactive.

I think we need to be more respectful, less demanding and not take it as a given that they should be here. How many games do you know which have a good majority of the devs mingling with the players on forums such as this!

At the end of the day, the devs would have less hassle in their lives if they could simply stay back, lurk behind the scenes and just do their work. Their identities would stay safer, they'd not have to deal with all those many issues we here on the boards hassle them with - most of which aren't even their job to deal with might I add, they could just read and learn from a safe distance if they wanted to. But instead they come here and make themselves very vulnerable - and for that we really should be thankful.

Of course, Jeremy's/Joanne's position is more focused on the community than with the other devs, but still - I really have to doubt that things were handled this publicly 10 years ago. So folks, how about we just let Joanne handle things in her own way in peace instead of cornering her into a position which forces her to come forth. I'm sure that any issues you submit on the UO site are going to the right place and getting the care they need.

Hail: Did Jeremy have to sign a non disclosure statement or something like like? Usually when a person leaves, they are still allowed to post on message boards and such. Usually, "They themselfs", still stick around on the boards for a bit, and say goodby/goodluck, and so on. Is Jeremy Banned from posting here?

Most of the other prolific UO team folks who have left the team have done so by mutual decision. You know...I got offered a nice position somewhere else, no hard feelings, we still love you, etc.

I'm sure it's not hard to imagine that goodbyes would be low on your priority list when you've just been let go from your position. A gag order would just hurt community feelings towards EA, and would likely be counterproductive.

This is a late goodbye as I frequent this board less often these days.
Jeremy has done a pretty good job over last few years as the official messenger between players and EAMythic. She has tried hard for the most of the time to help us (including me in several occasions) on a variety of game issues.
Again she is just a messgenger and has no control on a lot of things. Regardless, she takes a lot of heat from unhappy players but little praises from happy ones. Sometimes, things get really rediculous, for example, in [UO hearld] FOF AWOL, she got flamed so bad only less a month ago for missing a FOF, just one day before the Chicargo Townhall because she forgot to bring some equipment with her. We should step back and think what we have done to her.
While it is sad to see her go, We should step back and think what we have done to her. Meanwhile, we should feel lucky that UO team didn't suffer a bigger cut over this round of mass layoff at EA.

I'm going to say this one time...and ONLY once.

Some of you are making this way too personal, and it will not be tolerated.

Your speculations are just that - and as such better have some facts behind them before you go slandering people.

Clean it up.

I didn't really know what to say when I heard the news, and now days later, I still feel bad for Jeremy.

Whether you liked her or not, it was clear she cared about UO and the players. It's never fun to be looking for a job, voluntary or not.

Jeremy, I wish you the best in your future endeavors...you will be very much missed by many of us. Halloween just wasn't the same without a "Jeremy" pumpkin... :sad4:
