Sad to hear that Jeremy is no longer with EA Mythic. I, like many others, immediately connected the announcement of the 500 staff firings yesterday to this. I mean really, what else are we supposed to believe?

Jeremy, don't be a stranger and good luck with whatever you go on to do!

(edit) I was actually kind of bothered by the fact that SHE didn't post the message on the herald. I obviously can't judge anyone because none of us are fully aware of what happened ... but still!

About time.

Maybe we can get someone more competent now.
Can't blame her for leaving when you have to put with stuff like this. Surprised she stuck it out this long, actually.

Ya know, by and large when people have opinions whether they are popular are not have found some way in society of voicing them in much more respectful manner. I had the opportunity to meet Jeremy in Chicago. She is not the cumulative of letters put together to form words on a forum. Real person here. If you are the type of person who would have walked up to her and said that to her face in Chicago then I feel sorry for your lack of social skills.

Based on how other large corporations do firings, she probably wasn't given the chance.

Maybe we can get someone more competent now.
Over the past year I've been highly critical of the poor communication from the reps and team. However, I've suspected for some time now it was less Jeremy not doing her job and more EA/Mythic not allowing her to post more freely. The fact that the devs post much less than they used to and that Robert guy has posted what? like 10 times or something, leads me to that conclusion. Besides, if she wasn't doing her job the way her bosses wanted, why would they keep her on the payroll for years? Which also leads me to believe she WAS following their rules.

I have never met Jeremy, but many who have at the Town Halls have very positive things to say about her. Not only do they say she's a good person, but they say she loves UO. Someone who is that fond of our game probably wants to interact with fellow players and she had the perfect position to do so. Sure U.Hall is a PITA and some of us may complain more than we should, but I get the impression that wasn't a deterrent for her.

Who wants to bet that when Joanne (no matter how cool she may be) starts posting (allowing for introductions and such) and after the kinks are worked out with the current publish that the devs will go back to the 2-3 posts per month?

Just my guesses. =

I just got home...from trick or treating with my girls...and being with my parents....and I am still in shock.

Jeremey, it was a pleasure meeting you last year, I'm glad I did! I'm glad you let your hair grow out, it looks MUCH better :)

It will be odd posting news NOT by you, but I guess I'll get used to it, in time...*sighs*

Good luck in whatever you do next :)

They probably told her she was laid off, took her badge, and escorted her to the door. Standard operating procedure. They would have changed her password first of course.

Ouch  This sucks.

You took over a hard job and when I recall some of UHall threads I bet there where days before you just wanted to quit. Never thought this day would come so suddenly. A lot of us strongly disagree with the politics of your former employer (especially the two-letter one) and I hope you didn't take the criticism personally. Never met you but I recognized a friendly character shining through your posts. We will miss you.

I wish you the very best for your future life.

Rumor has it that the higher ups were sick and tired of hearing the playerbase crying and moaning about the rampant hacking going on in this game.

So they made an example of her, and thats what will happen to the devs unless they ship up and take care of that problem.

Cheerios Jeremy!!

...

I'm not going to speculate on what happened (whether the decision was her's or Mythic's, or the reasons why).

What I will say is that she was about as vocal as she could be given the circumstances.

In my field, I have to be the same way some times and it is damned frustrating to not be able to say something you REALLY want to say.

Case in point, I work in the numismatic industry (coin collecting for those who don'tr know the word) at one of the two leading grading/authentication companies (and conservation as well). This year I have done more and more shows around the country.

At the show table, many people bring us coins and want us to grade them at the table. Well, we can't do that since the lighting situation is different, plus the fact that grading is an opinion more than a science and therefore we could get in trouble if we say that a coin will grade a certain way (or grade at all for that matter).

The frustration comes when someone brings up a coin or a small batch of coins that have been damaged in some way (generally cleaning), or they believe the coin is something amazingly rare when it is nothing more than a common date "junk box" piece and I am not allowed to chime in to prevent them from spending up to $100+ on submission fees when the coin will not grade.

But you hold your tongue and answer the best ways you can.

So on that end, I can seriously empathize with the job Jeremy had to do. Couple that with dealing with certain attitudes and it's quite a testament to her self control.

Now I do have some issues with Jeremy that annoyed me for one reason or another, but that is of no consequence right now.

So I wish Jeremy well in her future endeavors... and commiserate in the "I want to say something but can't" aspect of the job.

I hope you get to see this Jeremy. You rocked ! You put up with us and you often fixed us right up when we didn't know who to turn to for fixin'. I'm gonna miss knowing you are there when something goes horrible wrong, and I'm gonna miss telling people in distress, "Email Jeremy"

The hot tub at the Christmas party was a blast. I'm glad we got to do that.

I heard gross incompetence.
Wow, knew people had a tendency to be purposefully rude, but damn, people acting like this is just pathetic.

Anyways, will miss you Jeremy. Particularly the FoF I will be missing. But hey, since you are no longer working for them you can let us know all the secret details they might be keeping from us :p

Thank you Jeremy for projecting a passionate love of game and of communicating with this most challenging of communities. Thank you for responding to our posts here, thank you for your assistance with tweaking an accountname, thank you for putting on a brave face through the darker hours of our game.

Has anyone found if there is a "credits pumpkin" for Jeremy this year?
Are there any other names we should collect to show our respects?

I'm sorry I never found my way to a town hall to hear you in person.

Best wishes whereever your career leads you. If you are ever in need of customer references, I'm sure you sift through the boardmembers to find some :)

I've been waiting for the right words to say about this. I am very surprised by this, and very saddened. I've met Jeremy as many of you have and she is fantastic. So sweet, so open (well ok about what she could be lol), so easy to talk to. She stayed after the San Diego event for a LONG time visiting with a group of us, showing of her tattoo's, answering some basic uo questions. You could see during the presentation and question session how much she wanted to share with us but couldn't. I'll miss her quirky responses to posts and her informative even if mysterious responses to questions and her willingness to get the answers she could out of the dev team.

*sigh* I'll miss you Jeremy, please don't be a stranger.

*big hugs*

Oriana and Arlon

PS I'll still give out her advice too!! *points the sig* SEND IN FEEDBACK!!!!

Well, didn't Jeremy just have a baby not too long ago. Baby's and planned schedules always don't mix. On that statement, kind of curious about the whole ordeal myself. Tehna gain, witht eh whining, ungrateful treatment Jeremy got from this community, and I am sure some of the headaches from her email being filled up by said ungratefuls, there might of been other reasons to. UO does have some of the highest turn overs as far as developers go.

I didn't personally have very much interaction with Jeremy here on the boards, but watching from "afar", it was clear that she cared about UO and the UO community with a passion. At times I felt like she was a mother lion taking care of her cubs :).

Just recently I stumbled across this audio recording of the recent Seattle town hall:

http://www.uoforums.com/f1366/seattle-2008-town-hall-recording-and-notes-from-dermott-of-ls-52733/

(It's at the very end of Adam's post)

Listening to it was really interesting and enlightening. If you ever wondered what Jeremy is like, this will reveal tons. Engaging to listen to, giving to her audience and quite funny at times!

I never dealt with Jeremy alot but my wife did and would always tell me to write Jeremy if something was wrong with the game or did not seem right. She was someone my wife MayaDevi, the brat for those on Origin, thought as of a friend and someone she trusted. I learnt of this when she came to bed and woke me up upset. I suspect from what I know of you Jeremy and how you interacted with the people who wrote to you and talked to you that a lot of people went to sleep very upset.

That being said. I wish you the best in your future endeavors and in your battles on UO. If you are ever on Origin, stop by to say hello.

May you have Fair winds and following seas on your journeys :sad4:
