Who's Gordan Walton? He says he used to be an Executive Producer Ultima Online at one point?
I'm not sure what his in game name was, but yes he was in charge of UO Renaissance in 2000 and UO Third Dawn in 2001. He is also the one who created the Legends shard, because the project he worked on before UO was Legends of Kesmai.

Im 10 days into albion as I was a legendary founder. Over 60 hours of gameplay so far and loving it. In a great guild and having fun farming, gathering, crafting and training up a character for PvP. Having 10,000 concurrent players on a single server is like a breath of fresh air. The world is alive. And you know when the CEO of the company has over 2500+ posts on the forum (along with many of the devs) then the game is going in the right direction.
Have fun! Nothing wrong with riding the fun waves as long as they last. IMO biggest problem why UO players are sometimes so unhappy comes from the fact they never give it a break and play something else for a while.

I completely agree with this. When Star Wars, The Old Republic came out a few years ago I rarely logged into UO for over 6 months, but kept the accounts going, and when I came back everything in UO seemed more fun and less repetitive. SWTOR eventually got grindy and repetitive too, so I hadn't played that in a while until recently. Now I've been spending some time there again and it no longer feels as repetitively grindy as it did before.

Taking breaks greatly improves the quality of the game when you return to it in my experience.

There are lots of ex-UO players there. It's not quite UO but was built in the premise of old UO with influences from Eve too.

No good for the tamers as there is no taming element to the game. It's full loot PvP in the lawless areas of the world but it's done in a way that it's actually fun and losing stuff is more an inconvenience than a show stoping disaster. Great GvG action. Guilds in general are a huge part of the game and less so for solo. Great for gatherers, refiners and crafters as in this game "everybody matters" ;)

And the OP is right. Lots that UO could adopt.
Losing stuff in UO today isn't a show stopper either. It's also inconvenience only.

I guess the people who are saying it's like UO was in the old days are right then, considering around 1998-2003 it was very common for a shard to be full when you tried to log in. Which is also the main reason people had characters on more than one shard at the time. Ahh the good old days ;)

I'm in!!!
Ok time to learn. So far it pretty polished.
I'd love to be able to scroll out a little more, would be just like UO then :)
Albion uses unique names so with a quarter million accounts already it was always going to be a hard trying to get a name you wanted, although Slayvite is a good result!

The server queues aren't bad. Mostly you won't get one but when you do they go down fast. Remember it's all in one single server so everyone is on it!

The game has been prone to a few adhoc restarts as they try to optimise it for the sheer numbers online. It's a pain but it'll smooth out.

If you need any help getting up and running let me know. Either build advice or if you need a horse!

Reading through this it seems opening a Albion section would be good.

Please make it so for everyone.

Everyone. Please make the new section active and valid. A few donations from you all would help as well.

I personally feel it would be way too soon to start a forum on a game that just went live 2 weeks ago... nothing against it but there's other games that have lasted the test of time which could be added instead

We already have a Shroud of the Avatar and Shards Online forum and neither of those have been released at all yet. They are in alpha/beta still.

Albion at least has been released.

It's not really about if or how long the game is out.

It is all about what people want to talk about and explore together via a forum.

Thanks Captn. An Albion section here on stratics is a nice idea and one I would like to see implemented. Not sure how popular it will be though as the official albion forums are really heavily active, but it'd be nice to corral the stratics/uo people together to discuss the game.

Back on the original topic of "Interesting ideas from another mmorpg game." ...

This is something that EA/BS could learn from .... not only are the Dev team perma banning gold sellers, they are perma banning anyone who buys from them (which can be derived from their in game logs). Quote below from the CEO ...

"More than 800 accounts that acquired currency from 3rd parties have been permanently banned.

Important: we will continue to permanently ban all accounts involved in 3rd party currency transactions!

To quote myself from a later post in the thread but also make it visible here:

"The bans are obviously not just because “someone accepted Gold / Silver”. Else, probably half of the game would be gone now. Giving a friend a leg up with some currency, or even giving a guild or a friend a larger amount is a standard procedure in MMOs.

We don’t want to make it easier for the criminals, so I cannot go into too many details about how exactly we do it, but:
We only ban in cases where we are certain that the persons received the Gold from 3rd party sites."

This is the stance EA /BS should have taken a long long time ago.... ban the sellers AND the buyers

Lets not forget that many of the Albion Devs are old-UO devs. So they probably pitched these same ideas to "the boss" and were told "no, i like my kick backs from gold sellers". ;)

I'll say one thing, the game Citadel: Forged with fire is looking good in beta.
A few sandbox moments, like flying open world on a broom :)
Taming a Dragon and using it as a mount.......that also flies :D
Easy click lock house building in open world, or city if you really like building. lol

So far it looks really good, i suppose time will tell.

nb, i'm getting a bit bored of Albion already as it really is just a grind on low level resources to level up, seems like the whole point of the game is to just make enough gold to pay for next months premium status??

Well, if youre getting bored already then youre probably doing it wrong!

What is it youre focussing on?

No matter what you decide to focus on, the game doesnt really start until T4. Everything up to T3 is really the tutotial part. Ideally you should be getting all three weapon and armour branches to T3, as its at that point that the destiny board branches out into many more weapon and armour skills and you can test out and specialise in these at T4. Ideally once youve found the build you want to play its better to specialise from T4 onwards (although Ive gone for both the great frost staff and great cursed staff as I cant decide between the two yet). Its also very easy to change path.

Are you gathering (thats lucrative even at lower tiers (especially stone which is always in demand for buildings))?
Those gathered raw resources can be refined into workable materials which crafters use and sell well.
Have you dipped into the extensive crafting options?
Have you got your own island yet and looked at farming crops, herbalism or even raising mounts?
What about cooking or potion brewing? Food is always in huge demand to feed workstations on guild islands
Have you ran any expeditions yet (group expeditions open at T4 reaver) and its a great way to get teamed up with a group of 5 and do a PvE expedition. You''ll be able to see how a group dynamic role works and witness first hand a lot of different builds and how they function. you'll also make 6k silver for your first run in a day plus gather silver, loot (every loot drop is a player crafted item that has been sold on the black market) and fame during the expedition
Have you tried hellgates yet? 5v5 group PvP in a dungeon.
What about a straightforward group dungeon crawl for fame?
What about a guild (essential in this game) to participate in GvG's and experience large scale PvP as well as gaining access to a guild island and all its crafting and refining stations?

Theres a TON to do, you just need to know how to get involved in it.

As for silver, I would never use it to pay for premium time, I'll simply subscribe for $6.95/month on the best package. I'll use silver to update my armour and weapons and keep a few sets on hand should I need them, upgrading my island, etc

Yeah, i powered thru the boredom part (guess it happens when you have the week off and nothing else to do)
Planted some seeds just got another 9 hours until i can harvest them, I think 24 hours is a tad too long for growing T1 stuff though?
Still alot of grind but i do see your point as i'm still in the T3 section with "everyone" else harvesting my nodes a hell of alot faster than i can, so it gets a little annoying at times.
Crafting / housing was always my passion in UO so hopefully it will get better after the "goldrush" thins out a tad ;)

What I did like from Albion streams is that monster bosses show their path of attack, so you can avoid it.
Big monster bosses should have deadly attacks, but you should be able to see and avoid it. UO's monsterhunting seems mostly a gearcheck. :)
