Seriously? Do you really need handouts every anniversery? I'm thankfull enough that Ultima is still in existance this anniversery. If you really want to celebrate a fan fare, host your own UO event annually to commemorate the birthday of Ultima. Don't force it upon the developers to tend to your wants. I'm sure if Calvin said they're working on content, there will be content.

Really now? They just busted their a$$es off producing a new expansion for you, and everyone else to enjoy. You shouldn't take things for granted. You make it seem like the Developers don't do anything at all, when in reality, if they didn't, this game wouldn't even be here right now.
You shouldn't take things for granted. Be thankful for what IS available to you, and develop patience. The content for the 12th anniversery will probably be implemented along with the halloween content (if there is halloween content this year*).

I agree that it would have been nice to have an announcement for the anniversery, but then again, I look at it from their perspective and mine. I don't just simply sit here and say "oh geez, they didn't do that for no good reason at all." - but perhaps they didn't? or whoever manages the Herald forgot? (which probably isn't a developer to begin with).

But to sit around and imply that the developers should produce anniversery content specifically for the oldest players in the game every year isn't reasonable. Up until about 2 or three years ago, the anniversery rewards have been the same since their introduction (for the most part). The developers implement TONS of content yearly that once obtained, becomes someones storage space and then they [those people] start asking for more. I can say I'm fairly satisified with what they've done with the rewards up until now. I would rather them focus on other content that all players can enjoy for instance special events etc. rather than implementing more anniversery content.

I never implied they should produce anniversary content. Does it take a developer to post on the Herald, "Happy anniversary, UO!"? Did I say anything about anniversary rewards at all? No. Thanks for putting words into my posts, but they're simply not there.
As far as VETERAN rewards, I do think that they should introduce new ones every year. As I've said in other places, I believe it's a very nice "thank you" to longtime UO subscribers. Me, I've been playing since October 1997. I don't expect that it grants me the right to have a supremely accurate, indestructible coat hanger of vanquishing. But I do think a new mount or a new cloak or a new piece of deco is a nice way to say, "Hey, you've been with us for 12 years, thanks for being with us all this time, we appreciate that you've been a dedicated, long-term customer." Is it necessary? No. Is it very nice? Yes. And Calvin indicated that there was something coming. I'm excited to hear about it. So I'm asking about it.
Again, I wasn't being a jerk about it. I wasn't demanding anything. I was simply asking about that, and I was, at the same time, because it was in his same announcement, expressing disappointment that UO's anniversary was brushed over.

Nope, I do not want it now, but they really have dropped the ball on this once again. I am reminded of the old saying "the more things change, the more they stay the same." Worst customer service ever.
There should have been some viral videos, shouting to the world about 12 years of UO, sh&**y graphics or not. I have not stayed with this game for 140 months for the graphics. It is the depth of the game that keeps me around.
If EAMythic are not going to market UO and it is totally the responsibility of the p(L)ayers, then lets fire/transfer the marketing people (which EAMythic says exist) over to WAR and take that money and plow it back into the game.

True, but EA pays little attention to UO. The fact that it is still around is quite amazing. I'm sure if EA actually payed attention to UO and gave them more to work with it would be going better over the little things. And it is because of this that I don't get all upset if they don't get the little stuff to us just because of an anniversary or whatnot.

Thank you Sakk. Can you give us an idea (not a promise, just a general idea) of when you all are aiming for Halloween content to be published? I am gonna guess that the vet rewards will be in the same publish as the Halloween content, but can we have an idea if we will get to go trick or treating early or are you planning of it to start on Halloween itself?
I don't mind waiting a bit longer for the vet rewards and I really don't think most others mind it either. I think what has folks "up in arms" most of the time is simply the word of the use "soon". Give us an estimated target date... like "We are planning on releasing the vet rewards in the same publish as ____ which we are going to try out best to get out by the end of October." Then you aren't promising anything, but giving folks a target date so we don't all die of anticipation.
Don't know if you have kids, but imagine the following...
Kid: Are we there yet? When are we going to get there...?
Mom: Soon.
*a few minutes later*
Kid: Are we close? How much longer? *whines*
Mom: *feels her blood pressure raise* We'll get there soon.

September 25th is the Anniversary for UO. That is the day they should have released information on vet rewards, ACKNOWLEDGED the anniversary on the Herald, and generally had fun. (These things should have been released then, not the completely unrelated Halloween as it appears it will be…) They didn't. It’s sad and disheartening. It honestly shows a lack of caring for their player base, and for the game itself in general.
And yes, they have been working on the expansion…FOR THREE FREAKING YEARS. The content for SA is decent, I am enjoying it. I am not, however, enjoying the myriad bugs, inconsistencies, outright exploits, and client issues that Mythic has only acknowledged at a very basic level. Their communication skills in this regard are abhorrent. (Simply blocking the puzzle room on the shards controlled by Mythic would go a long way here. If EA Japan has the capability to do this, so does Mythic. But no, they let it continue for WEEKS after they were repeatedly informed. EPIC FAIL.)
Communicate, Mythic, communicate. Do not continue to alienate the people who pay your salaries with their subscriptions by playing keep-away with information. You're really the only game designers who feel the need to do this, and it’s gotten old. So very, very old. And please, keep Calvin 300 yards away from the media at all times... He seems like a nice man, but the foot-in-mouth syndrome he has is only making things worse... (Carebear comment, obvious lack of Ultima/UO knowledge in the G4 interview, and lame 'teaser' comments two weeks ago)
Should players expect to receive vet rewards? Hell yes. They started the tradition, and last year PROMISED to deliver (and failed), so people are naturally skeptical of the dreaded "Soon" (tm). And to the twits who say vet rewards only benefit the old accounts: They have released new rewards for the lower year tiers as well, and logically (yes, an assumption) will again. And YES, the people who have 12 year old accounts (whether they had them from the start or not, it’s none of your business) DO deserve high-end rewards. The account is old, EA has made easily $1440 just from the subscription alone - more with expansions. Your account will be there one day too. Cope. (And really, there is nothing unbalancing about an ethy, the resource items, or the ability to engrave.)
I'll leave the Halloween stuff to well…Halloween. That’s still the better part of a month away. I’ll be nice and give them the benefit of the doubt.

Also... out of ALL the onlines I know, the UO team has imo the worst customer service and communication of any online. Throughout the years (11 for me) I have seen ongoing promises from the team in its many incarnations that things will improve.
It never has.

most times when I see that bolded part or something similar on the boards all I can think is "thank the ghods"..... I really want the upper management types to completely forget where our dev team works the magic for us, know what I mean?

Well that is your opinion, I can not remember the times the team has said they wanted more communication. Yet when these exploits pop up, what do you get? "we are aware of the problem and are working toward a solution soon." TM
Now I do not want to know how to do the exploit but ballpark it, then if you miss the date, come back and tell us some more. and more until the problem is fixed or they decide to say screwed it we can not fix it. then tell us that decision too.
Hell I still do not know if they fixed the 6th year statues yet. I would like to put them back up if possible as they are memories of players from my shard no longer here. I try to read up on the forums, but really something like that should be announced on the herald first, then here.

Thank you, Sakkarah. Thank you very much. While you still used the much dreaded "Soon," you gave us actual information regarding what is going on without ruining the surprise.
This is the kind of communication we want consistently on a day to day basis. We don't need detailed exploit info, just an acknowledgement and a band aid fix if its unbalancing enough (please implement the temporary fix like on the Asian shards).
Definitely tell us what’s being worked on, how its going, etc. There are many creative people in the UO community whose ideas could be of use. Don't give us dates, per say, but throw up a list of issues you all are working on so we can stop beating the many dead horses which litter the forum floor. This will actually free up more time to tackle the issues as you won't have to field so many repetitive posts on the same subject (hey, optimism is good.. eh?).
Its 25 days since SA launched. 25 days since a multi-client patch. Information on what’s going on to resolve issues would be appreciated.
Future patch notes, sans dates and exploit info would be ideal. Something you can point to and say "This is what we are working on. We'll keep you posted..."

Ummm... maybe because it is committing to things they are uncertain of at this point? Given the sudden appearance of a couple of rather serious bugs that they have to take time to fix - the necessary development time on the Halloween things "coming sometime in October" may not be realistic. Given extra effort by the staff, it could be done, but what if another bug crops up?
Given the 12 year history of the team, whenever they do commit to a date, they get slammed for it over and over again. I'd not answer with anything definite until I were 100% sure it could be done.
Despite our impatience like kids on Christmas eve (even though Christmas eve's date has not been announced), I believe that the team is taking the right approach.
If you really have this much of an issue with the way they handle this, then I'd recommend closing your eyes and visiting the shrine of the lost 9th Virtue: Patience. For those of you that need it, I think the mantra is: Kshanti.

And yet very successful games, including the most successful MMOG of all time, manages to (A) communicate while (B) never giving a set date for anything they've ever produced. Ever. I'm with others... it would be extremely nice for Under Development to be used again as a list of (A) stuff they're working on (understanding it may change), (B) issues they're aware of (even if it's "Exploit in puzzle hallway, don't use or be banned,"), and (C) a list of "side projects" that may or may not make it into the game but which are getting active consideration and/or development.
No, none of this will stop the "IT MUST GO IN, YOU PROMISED!" stuff... but nothing ever has, and since that's true regardless of their communication, it's better to provide information than to withhold it.
The idea that any of the other MMOG companies are watching the Mythic UO website for ideas to steal is, at best, silly, and even if they are, the people who play UO are not going to suddenly stop doing so when WoW:Cataclysm is released because it includes a skill similar to Imbuing.
Your right to have that belief, but I would say by the preponderance of posts here on Stratics alone that beg and plead for information on important or high-profile topics, you would be in the major minority on that.
One can be patient and still desire information. In fact, I'm far more likely to be patient if I know what's going on.
Are you kidding? They have been working their asses off day and night for SA launch. They are HUMAN BEINGS, not machines.
What did YOU do to celebrate UO anniversary or anyone else here? Does the community hold no responsibility in doing something to celebrate?
