O.k. <nods with a mischievous grin>

Pillory's around the Town bank's for those who get caught in the act of stealing or who attack and fail to kill their targets. You try and do nasty things unto others and blow it, you get an hour in a Pillory to give you time to think on how you messed it up. The upstanding citizens of Siege get to pelt you with rotten fruit and veggies from a basket beside the pillory. (They can set this detection up to happen when the Steal skill is used or a player attacks a player. Get it right, your gold, blow it, and your getting a tan in a pillory. Player must be logged in as that character during the hour. Call it motivation to get good. Risk vs Reward. ;)
Lord British founded Britannia as a Kingdom of Virtue and so I have always dislike guard wacking for anything outside of murder/attempted muder.... Its hardly Justice and certainly not in the Britannian sense to kill someone for stealing. So I agree with Tanivar that jail time is a better alternative...

I'd also say putting someone in stocks in the town square and humiliating is also not Justice in Lord British's Britannia.

I'd love to see a thief get teleported to the Yew prison and locked in a cell. The stolen items returned to owner and the thieves possessions put in a chest within the prison. Prevent all magical travel into and out of the prison and fill it with low level blue guards and a few guard captains. The thief either sits out the 15 min timer or can have friends/guildmates/or a second account (seems the norm for siege players) to come rescue him.

If 15 min timer runs out without the rescue, the thief is release in front of the prison and the items in the chest decay.

If you can rescue the thief, one guards has the key to the chest or someone can lockpick it... You could also break in and release the thief just to murder him yourself or just go to steal his things.

Make all containers trappable (tossing a bone to Tinkers) and make the traps do lethal damage at least half the time. (Tailor/Tinkers to do packs, pouches, and bags.) Should add considerable excitement to Thieves lives with their love for Risk vs. Reward.
You can already come pretty close to this with crates and if one has the desire you can set yourself up to be "difficult".

Adjust running speeds by weight worn and carried. The mugger in armor and lugging a big weapon can't move as fast as a gatherer in clothing or lighter armor unless the gatherer is heavy from gathered goods he's carrying. Will encourage muggers to wear lighter gear giving the victims more chance of defending themselves. Remember Risk vs. Reward. ;)
That would have been great pre-aos when heavier armor offered better protection but lowered Dex, you could base max movement off of a 150 dex and scale it down to no movement at Dex 0. But in today's game, my best resist armor pieces tend to be leather and its only because of inherent bonus's I would use other pieces.

Banana Peels that people can toss around themselves and that use the ice patch code making it likely anyone coming up to them, openly or steathing, will fall. Falling will reveal hidden people.
Not a bad idea but throwing a magic bananna peel in town should get you flagged as a criminal if it hits an innocent because its reckless endangerment and so its you who would be the more likely to be "jailed/wacked". I'd add a high detect hidden skill would passively reveal and remove traps pickup.

Tamer's be given the ability to tame and sell animals to homeowners as pets and guard animals. (A bone for Tamers) The animals will react to people not friended to the house revealing them. A guard animal will attack anyone who attacks the homeowner or a co-owner or friend of the house, or if told to sic'em! by one of the above. Risk getting chomped vs the Reward of looting the dead and anything in anyone or friends security containers in the house. (Only if attacked by and killing the guard animal.)
In a way its how it used to be. I was never a tamer but I kept a quartet of Paladins in my home to keep it safe and tamer's often left pets. It was intended to work that way but the coding never met the demands of the reality. Its definitely an area that could improve and people have wanted house pets options for a long time now.

There's a half dozen for the crowd on the Light Side of Siege.
Character wise I am on the light side, and I look forward working with you and meeting you in game. Out of character I seek a world that matches the reality of the fiction presented [ie guard wacking for theft has always been counter to the Britannian Fiction relating to justice].

Most on the Siege threads post suggestions that favor the Pkers and Thieves to make life on Siege better for them at the expense of the sheep. I decided to post some that would make life better for the sheep at the expense of the PKers & Thieves, the other side of the same coin. Is it that aspect or the repeated mentioning of the Risk vs Reward thing that's driving you up a wall?
It was not that post alone, that annoyed me, it's more your attitude vs Siege players and our opinions and wish for the game. Don't worried, I still like you, even when you sometimes annoy me a lot :p

My attitude towards the part of the Siege players who think as you do and their opinions you mean. My attitude towards the entire group of Siege players is good. There's been no reason for it not to be good so far, and there's no sign of any reason for it to change from being good. Only one making threats against Tanivar's and Landreu's lives and the shop I like to run as my fun on Siege has been you. Holy Minor league Shades of UO:Ren's Fel Batman.

By the opinions some people express they want to keep Siege as they want it to be which works against attracting more people to Siege and getting them to stay. That is the right they have because they are Siege players. Other Siege players such as me want to try different things since what has been tried in the past has failed to draw & keep many new Siege players. Both groups need to work together to find ideas that will successfully draw many more people to Siege. Both sides want the same Goal, just can't agree on the way to make it happen.

What qualities, besides Insurance and all the other 'trammie wimps' features, that make prodo shards fun for so many players and turn the stomachs of a big part of Siege's population, could be added to Siege by us players and perhaps the Devs, to make it more attractive to prodo players, who like me two years back, come to Siege before leaving UO completely? Without making a big part of Siege's population gag that is. That's what we need to make happen.

Why would we make Siege more Trammel like to get more players? To make Siege fun, we need more Siege player, who enjoy the danger here and accept the risk, even when they may not be a PvP player.

What make Siege fun is the interact in a land, where player justice work and filter out the trash, who do not care about the community, that be scripters, scammers or the one who only kill for own fun and loot. It have nothing to do with the color of the player.

I'm not sure you understand this, as you are to blinded of old hate to enjoy Siege. That's ok, we need good shops too, but still sad, that you can't let it go and forget about system made colors and rules.

It may not be from Prodo shards, we should gain our new Siege players, it may very well be from non EA servers, returning Siege players and returning UO players from before Trammel. I know that scare you and maybe some others, but that is what Siege need.

Tina Tink had always been a crafter here, crafting and stocking her vendors from outside the villa, that was her shop for many years. Trust me, we had more reds in the past, that you ever have seen and they was fighting at the road and around the shop. Yes she did die sometimes but that was no big deal.

We do not need alot trammies, who are to scared to leave their house and will cry everytime they die and want rules, that make the game unplayable for evil roleplayers like me.

We want miners, lumbers, monster killers, who will be active in the player towns and gathering places.

To get that, we sure have an issue with new suit inc. jewelry, weapons, shield, etc being to expensive, it can easy cost 500k to 1 mill or even more.

I believe, if we increase drop of small gems and other imbuing resources, it will help alot. The easier access to relic was a great help, but there are still some essences and other mats, that is hard to get and the resist are a pain to balance.

Players want to relax, when they login.
A PvP'er do not want to do alot monster killing before he get a suit for PvP.
Crafters do not want use a calculator to play the game. Making a suit to a custumer and calculate the price is time eating and complicated.
A PvM'er do also have hard replacing his suit and both the PvP'er and the PvM'er have hard finding the perfect suit on a vendor.
Also putting a suit together from loot is a pain. I can't make bags with suits in GH, because every template have their ideas for the perfect suit.

Sure we do have different ideas for what will bring Siege back to life and make it fun, but thinking less reds and thieves = more fun is crazy and sound boring and trammel minded to me.
This was Siege :p

People don't know what they want from any shard, but habits are strong in their lives, it'll be hard for them to just change their shard, especially with all the events they remember and items that remind them of these events, and their dragon hoards. Only a new player would join without much doubt, but there aren't many new players in UO these days.

Guys, GUYS! We keep drifting into the ditch of philosophical musings here. Please use another thread for that! Remember, basic format is:

Request for siege from expansion
Why it should be on siege ONLY
Who it benefits
Who it does not benefit

And leave the personal pissing party with each other at the door.... :)

Not targeted at anyone, just trying to get the thread back on track. I'm on vacation here in RL, but feel like I'm working in this thread!

I played a free shard that eliminated insta wacks. The guards would come a running, but the thief or bad guy had a chance to escape or kill the guard. That was always fun even though I only got away once.

Then another free shard required a thief buy a town stealing letter from the thief NPC. You had to have one if you wanted to steal in town. Without it, you could only steal outside of guard zones. If you died...it would drop to your corpse and was lootable. They were also stealable which kinda pitted thieves against each other when someone looked at another thief as competition, lol...la

Which my last post concerned.

Again:

The Siege Freja is focused on isn't growing as she would like. She feels that we need more players but only those who follow her philosophy on life here. As the years have shown, that isn't happening.

This thread is about ideas for changes from new publishes that will benefit Siege and make Siege more fun, and I assume that includes drawing more Players here to fall in love with Siege, it's fun, and who don't mind it's dangers. Change involves things becoming different. That's the nature of the beast known as Change.

Our likely sources of players are free shards and prodo Trammel shards.

What features do these two sources of players have that could be added to Siege by us and perhaps the Devs, in future publishes, that once added to Siege will make the idea of playing Siege sound like fun to current players from those two sources and make them inclined to move here, and not make to many current players foam?

Anyone else have any ideas for changes we can do or that future publishes can make that will make Siege more fun by drawing in more Players who will stay and continue to play here?

Sorry I'm so fixated on getting more Players on Siege, but my playstyle of gatherer/crafter is more fun with more customers. I'd think other playstyles would benefit from more people as well, could be wrong though.

I like your ideas Tanivar and think they have merit but I have found no one's input in this threat to be more practical and immediately impactful to Siege the Freja's.

All her ideas keep with the concept of the shard, make it more playable, and will encourage others to play.

Some of the Trammy ideas mentioned in this threat when combined make would make Siege basically a Prodo = White Witch ideas on multiple characters, and Kat's ideas on insurance...Combine that and you have created a prodo shard with a fel ruleset. Why would anyone come to play here when its just the same as any other shard.

I ideas I support for siege are classic shard concepts adapted to the modern game (not a classic shard)

When I played on GL post Ren, we still played pretty much fel ruleset, even when my guild relocated to trammal primarily for housing; Three stones Order/rp wars, factions and pvm/training stone both pre and post insurance... As the populations shifted and the majority of people playing started in tram, the atmosphere changed popular systems like Order and factions began to dwindle, even adding insurance the new player did not want to be at risk, or die, even with relatively little to lose. Order/Chaos was eventually removed, wars with guilds ended and the last place we really could continue our mission was Factions and now that is gone. Sure VvV has replaced it but its just generic guild wars set in towns. We participate in VvV as a Virtue guild continuing our work as Order Knights and former knights within the True Britannians. We aim to work with other Virtue guilds and do our best to bring a rp structure to the fight. [Very happy the EM here is doing something with the system which also got my interest in siege]

Adding pro player concepts that match the Siege concept is key, not adding prodo shard concepts that are against siege concept which have already shown they destroy fel based communities.

A good suit of armor cost 1200-1500 gold when I started... I patrol the the road from Brit to Vesper and back. Fighting monsters along the way and defending myself and others from bandits. I could earn on average 2k in gold. Enough to buy an extra suit of armor and weapons. If I died to many times and ran out of suits and gold I would do menial tasks to earn gold to buy another suit, collecting furs, leathers, etc.

It was a little like going to the casino, some days I was up a few hands and others I lost all my earnings. As I gained in skill both character and pvp, I became the house rather then the gambler, winning more often then not and making money as opposed to just surviving.

To put this all in perspective, to replace a single mid level imbued suit with weapons and jewels it will cost me 600k. In an hour of game play (which is what I have), I can make about 20-30k (yes I know people make more but the way I play that's what I make). So it takes me 20 days to replace a single suit.

Nobody wants to play 20 days to replace items.. Some people want insurance to protect the items because they are costly (prodo shard solution) - BUT the better solution and when siege (and UO) was at its peak, items could be replaced much more easily so losing them was tough not devastating. Make the suits so non maxed out imbued suit cost 20-30k to make rather then 600k (which I think is more then a fair price for the amount of time, resources and skill required to make the suit) Reduce imbuing cost for siege and increase resources. If you want maxed out mods, hpr2 mr2 LRC 20.. keep those suits costly.

Insurance on siege will let every rich, established or connected player can carry a crimson, lt sash, Slither, etc etc and they will totally annihilate new players coming to the shard. I have been fortunate to make strong connections and am sure I would be outfitted to my every desire should they allow insurance AND THAT IS NOT WHY I AM HERE.

This shard has the most equal footing for any player, new or old, established or not. People with tons of high end artifacts and items are reluctant to load up because they can and will be lost. This allows a new player in a simple imbued suit to play, protect themselves and be competitive. That is the siege I want to play on, those are the concepts I support.

Right now the suits are to expensive and hard to make, increase resources, decrease cost to imbue and you have what siege lost when a suit could be earned in a day of play.

As far as I am concerned Freja can post the same thing 1000 times and it will always get my "like". So so to can your ideas which are not even opposed to hers, no idea why you even are arguing. If you have constructive reason why you oppose and idea, great. If you have viable alternatives - fantastic.

I have to agree, this are killing any attempt to PvP on Siege. I had been thinking how to fix this with little work for Devs. It won't get the price down to 20-30k. Even if we remove gems and reduced the cost of high end resources to 1/10, the resource price for the whole suit would still be 150k without working and fail price if using Essence Of Achievement for the FC on jewelry and shield vs 660k if I can't get blank jewelry with FC but must use Essence Of Achievement and can get them for 10k each.
1. Remove gems from imbuing on Siege. If no gems needed, you can make a 5x70 resist suit with LRC and MR for less than 10k, even when I would sell it for 15-20k as it take time to get the resist right and time is money.
2. Reduce the count of high end resources from 10 to 2, Essences, big gems, SoR, etc. This way, High end suits will still be more expensive but not insane. Using 60 -120 SoR can easy cost 1-3 mill just in resource price. unless you grow them yourself. Reduce it to 12-24 will lower the price to 200-500k, that's doable, if you want to run upper gear.
I used 2 of my standard suits as text for this. Some may notes, this prices are already lower than my normal prices, that because Freja can get my relic easy now :)
I'm working on new prices for my vendor, but as you see, sale price without gems are great.
In a Danish spreadsheet, dot is thousand separator, sorry

There is no '17 years of hate', there is no 'fear of being killed', there is no to scared to leave the house because of the big bad oh so tough in their own eyes that we should quiver in our sandals, and such malarkey. It gets old hearing this bull Freja commonly spouts. Must make themselves feel more big bad and fearsome spouting this routine. Reminds me of the old Fel days and all the PKs bragging about themselves.

Apparently the idea of any change to make Siege more attractive to new players is seen as a change to make it more Trammieland. If no change can be accepted then, because it will make Siege more Trammieland, no change to perhaps draw in more new players is possible because it will make Siege more Trammieland. So Siege stagnates and like prodo shards will slowly lose more players and die because so many here quiver and shake in fear that any change will make Siege more Trammieland. If that is what all the 'OH GODS, THAT'LL MAKE SIEGE TRAMMIELAND!!!!!!!!!' folks want, thats what we'll likely see happen.

There is no point to this thread Silent Singer, any change to Siege as it is now isn't going to be accepted. Nice try guy but your trying to lift Mt Everest with a teaspoon. No point in :bdh:

Tanivar sorry but an old saying is: Can not stand the smell., One must leave the bakery.
You don't like the idea of Siege, why do you try to make it trammel? Siege was made as an alternative to Trammel, it was made for Murderes, Thieves, Evil roleplayers, Guardians, Knights, players who did like UO before Stat Loss for Murderes and before Trammel.
Reminds me of the old Fel days and all the PKs bragging about themselves.
Trust me, I have seen blue bragging about themselves, when they killed a red, that's all fine. We had fun, and I was not even a little evil at that time but I was living outside town. It was my best time in UO, next best was on Siege before AoS made the game item based. It may work on normal shards but it is destroying Siege.

I think the idea of reducing imbue costs has a lot of merit. Accessibility of competitive suits is a potential roadblock for new players and also causes old players to maybe hesitate a little before engaging in pvp. This is one that we could discuss further maybe, because I'm not sure what the drawbacks would be but there are bound to be some. Thoughts everyone?

The point of the post is to discuss different possible changes. There will never be full sign on for a lot of these suggestions, but to me, the post is more something for the developers to read. They will be the ultimate judges. Sure they could ask for our opinions...but this thread has plenty of them. The discussion may not be what you'd like to hear, but Siege will always have it's diehards...but our opinions have been ignored in the past, there is nothing to say they won't be ignored again...la

I tried to test with a ring, it will still be expensive, so I think it will work. You can still find rings with FC/FCR as loot if to expensive
If the guilds / players get the resources them self, it will reduce the price even more. It's easier to get 2 of each of the essences than 10, and the relic are easy to get.

I have no problem pointing out issues with my own suggestions, every choice no matter how good will have a draw back for someone...

Lower imbue cost will hurt someone who has spend X amount of years farming high end imbuing ingredients or invested RL money in plants that give seeds etc... The value per seed or X amount of ingredients becomes lower because the need becomes less.... they no longer corner the market. Before maybe the only way to get what you need was from player X and he invested his time and money to be that person. Now Player X is in competition with ABCDF who didin't do anything special just are able to compete in the ingredient market due to game changes "because players whined about how hard it was".

I am new to siege so I don't know who player X is or if there even is a player X on the shard in this particular scenario.

Its also possible player X is sitting on all this stuff and unable to sell at a price he hoped because the cost of imbuing is to high and new loot is a better alternative if you have to pay in the millions. Plus the population may have dropped that X needs more people to sell too, regardless of price and wants to sell off just to cut losses.

That may or may not be true, its just a potential consequence of the change.

What would LB say, "Its for the greater good"

Old Blackthorn would be like "F#$# that, my time, my money, my items = my prices. Don't get government or in this case "the gods[Dev's]" involved..."

Political Anarchy vs LB Virtue government.

This shows you didn't stuff those attitudes in the sock drawer. <sighs with an amused grin>

Perhaps something more bright and glaring text wise will help it sink in past those attitudes? <knows it sinking in has that fabled snowballs chances since it hasn't sank in yet.>

I like Siege, repeat I LIKE Siege, If I didn't I wouldn't be here. I am NOT repeat NOT trying to make it like Trammel, did that register? I am NOT trying to make it like Trammel. <grabs a bigger bullhorn> I LIKE Siege and am NOT trying to make it like Trammel. I want to discuss the idea of acceptable, repeat, acceptable qualities that make Tram more popular than Siege to DISCUSS if they might benefit getting more people to Siege.

I'll :bdh: one more time to see if it registers between your ears. Actually... why bother. You'll just pop off with the hate Siege, fear, hide in house, want Siege like Tram b.s. you keep on spouting.

Siege stays as it is then, I've got better things to do with my time than :bdh:

And yes, I'll still be on Siege, can't completely leave something I love. Their is a bright side for you Freja. Once Tan's account runs out I'll be getting supplies with Landreu who has only some Magery and no Hiding/Stealth. You can have a grand old time dirtnapping his hide.

I'll leave these Forums to all of you, I'm not leaving Siege. <moons the Forums with a big smiley face on the back of his bvds>

Good luck with drawing players to Siege. <waves> :)

Maybe, maybe not.
I rarely craft items, that need the high end resources as the price for them will be way to high for Siege. Lets say, we lower the imbue cost from 10 to 2, or even to one seed, essence, etc, I will start making this suits, weapon, jewelry for my vendors.
What will that do to the demand? I for sure will need more of this high end imbuing resources so I believe the price would stay and the demand would go up.

There are one factor more, that make it hard to find a new suit, that's the vendor fee, if we lower it to 1%, more crafters will run vendors and put more different suits, weapons and jewelry on them. Right now, they risk to lose money, if the items sit on the vendors to long.

What about exclude Britain on Siege from the battle towns, a lot newbies do start there and it should be a town for all, not just for VvV. If I could choose, this battle zones should only be in less used towns or some less used places outside town.
Now where we got rid of faction taxes, I like the community to start using Britain again. There are good shops, the library, quests, good Inns for the young citizens, Lord Blackthorns dungeon and a lot more.
