Many years ago, before I started construction of the church on Lake Austin, I sent an email to EA asking permission to do such a thing. They emailed me back giving me permission to do so, and wished me luck. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I started construction, and thus started the UO ministry.
Why does EA allow the church and the ministry to exist and continue?
Well, firstly I believe it is by the grace of God that this is allowed to continue, because He truely loves us. As a result, through His grace we are allowed to do what we can to reach others in His name, as long as we do not bash the beliefs of others (which we have never done).
Second, I have heard, a couple or so years back, a story another player related to me one day while I was witnessing on onother shard. This person said she paged a gm about my witnessing, and the person and the gm had a chat. This person asked the gm what if a rival church was put up, like for satanic worship. The gm threatened to action her (I believe it was a her, was so long ago) account, but she backed off right away saying it was only a hypothetical question. The gm continued in saying, according to her, that only Christianity is allowed in this game because of what it teaches... something no other religion can even come close to.

This is a very interesting story for sure . I do not know if such an incident really happened, but there you have it. So, if it is a true story, there is no worries of rival churches etc. If anyone ever did intend to do so, I suggest they email EA and ask permission as I have done.

for a game with as many different types of people with very spread out beliefs..

Good Morning Friends,

A year or so ago I started focusing on a transformation of the Luna Proper Area. With the desire to Bring Community focused establishments to our Shard. In that process I asked the community for ideas and desires.

The results were actions like bringing Sir Kelek Rune Library which he moved from Lake Austin for us, The Deal or No Deal Studio run by Whispering Rose Radio, the old Give and Take Pub where you can drop off what you don't need and take what you do, Free vendor Rentals all over town in an effort to help the economy of Napa ( those frankly take a lot of work to monitor). Not to mention the several other projects in the works.

One of the things that I have had several requests for over the last year or so was a Church to serve several purposes, a memorial to old players who have past, A nice place in town to get married within easy reach of a moongate, and lastly a place of worship.

I have worked with the Lake Austin Church for a few years now and seen no negative response from the shard on lake Austin where they are set up in the nw Corner of Luna or Sonoma where the Chapel of Light stands on the north side of town for the last year.

We have already had a chaple of Light Church building standing in Luna in the NE corner for almost a year now which was never Decoratred. I have never had any negative feedback regarding that church.

I am realistic that not everyone on the shard will be enthusiastic about a actively running church here on Napa, However I think we all realize that you can not make everyone happy all of the time.

There is a much stronger Christian movement on the Napa shard then most people realize and I have already had dozens of positive emails, icq's, and in game comments looking forward to the completion of the work.

I have been a Christian for a long time and the idea of having a fully operational church for the members of the Body of Christ here in Ultima
is no small undertaking, but as we learned in Proverbs 29:18 "Where there is no Vision the People will Perish"

As with any Church Construction. There is a tremendous amount of decor and design work to be done. Anyone wishing to contribute items or resources to the completion of the project please feel free to contact me and we will set up a way for you to do so with the projects lead designer.

I am looking forward to this new Destination point inside Luna and the Lives that it will change over time.

No one complained about the Chapel of Light, Nabin, because it did not scream "Jesus Saves" in the design. It is elegant and inobtrusive - reminds me of one of the old churches here where I live, actually.

Recall I stated in the first message that the current design (messages) happily house INSIDE walls and visible only to those who enter, would be agreeable. I am sorry, but I personally do not have any wish to walk by "Jesus Saves" everyday as I go to my vendor. While I appreciate spirituality, I do NOT appreciate open attempts to "convert the heathens".

Religion has its place, just not in a video game ...most peeps play video game to escape reality

I agree. Just as in real life there are churches of all faiths in all areas. Lots of them have Jesus saves signs on them. We certainly do not burn any of them on a regular basis. It is up to us the people to just either ignore the church (cult in most cases) or enter it and worship to your heart's content.

Who cares what Nabin is doing? I certainly do not give a rat's behind. And if he wants to set up a cult errr church, that is fine with me. I have never been a follower always made up my own mind. I will never join a cult or any organized religion. They benefit only those that run it.

So stop giving this any credibility by posting on it. Ignore and it may just go away.

I think I'll petition OSI for equal opportunity in favour of all types of religions and not just the Christian sect. That way if I wanted to build a Synagogue, Shinto Temple or a Mosque, complete with minarets for calling the faithful at the appointed hour each day, or my personal favourite, a replica of a Britannian abbey or a Stonehenge, there wouldn't be any qualms or discrimination.

Or better yet, if all religions were sanctioned, I could then be true to my native heritage and build me a heiau complete with the accoutrements that go along with. Ya know (or maybe not) a myriad of images of the Hawaiian gods, an oracle tower, a drum house, a sacrificial altar, etc.

Point being that Nabin is free to exercise his right to his religious well-being, as well as any human being in game, as is in real life. EA/OSI should not and cannot remain in the dark ages (pun intended) by practicing religious descrimination as iterated in a previous post by the designer of Nabin's church. To be clear, it is not Nabin that's under attack as far as I'm concerned, it's the "policy" that EA/OSI allegedly laid down that is being scrutinized.

In my experiences in playing various MMO's - the game designers can and will do whatever it is they want - even at the expense of alienating a good portion of the player base.

That being said, I find it highly suspect that anything Mythic is associated with would have anything to do with christianity seeing as how they are pretty much the anti-christ. har har.

If you cannot wait for at most seven days, then I humbly suggest playing on another shard until construction is complete. The message will be gone by then.
But until then, the message stays. I ask you all to please be patient. The church will remain on Napa forever in that location, but the message will be gone very soon.
