People's sense of community should come from their willingness to be there and to help others. Not from the NPCs and other incentives that are placed in that location.
I only brought it up here because it is one of the items that you questioned in your first comment post (#28 above). It seemed appropriate to reply to your question of:But as far as the gate hub or whatever you wish to cal it goes... That is one of the things I didn't really have a problem with.
Why would you need all those moongates?
While I might agree with some of your sentiment PASmountaindew, I take exception to the bolded statement in your post. Atlantic has a teleporter hub and many of the finest rune libraries in the game. Contrary to your statement many Atlanteans do not expect "things handed to them nice and easy".Why is it that it seems just about everyone on Atl wants things handed to them nice and easy? Why do you need moongates in the actual towns to get to a hub that can take you just about anywhere? When I started playing UO part of the fun was trying to find things or to interact with folks by asking them to gate me to place and such. Putting up gates and hubs like this will ruin the game for new players. If you want people to visit your establishment or town why not create a rune book or just make runs and hand them out and maybe have one of those rune books locked down in Luna. Better yet create a runebook library.
If it's supposed to be easy for new players, how will they be able to recall? Gates are supposed to make it easier for the new players and are just easier. Also, Atlantic, in my opinion, has EARNED this. Why is it that it seems just about everyone on Atl wants things handed to them nice and easy? I never said it should be easy for new players. New players already get accelerated skill gains in New Haven. Why not let them train there till they are able to travel on their own to other areas? It was not easy when I started. Sure when I started we had Power Hour so for one hour each day we had accelerated skill gains. New Players have it the entire day. Ohh and I think I have earned 1 billion gold... doesn't mean I should or will get it either. If it's supposed to be easy for new players, how will they be able to recall? Looking at the statements in bold I don't understand how that justifies needing more of those. If they are all over the place already and easy to get to then why make it easier? So this community center can become another Luna?wow...anyways
Pretty sure most shards have some kind of central hub that connect all player towns. For example Chesapeake has the hub near the luna fairgrounds, where you can click the playertown's banner/statue and teleport there. It works the other way around too, clicking the town banner takes you back to the central hub.
All of the features posted here dont seem bad. For example:
• An Event Moderator Announcer. - Makes sense for one to be at the hub
• A functioning ankh for karma locking, tithing, and resurrections. - They are everywhere, no way gamebreaking having one here
• A lvl 6 arcane circle for spellweavers to create focuses. - They already put one in Britain, so it really doesnt seem to be too much to have one at the hub.
• A stable master, hitching post, or small stable. - These are everywhere
• A banker and/or a small bank with open space to bank sit and buy/sell items. - Again...so many out there, it doesnt seem gamebreaking
• A small garden or chapel of the Virtues for weddings. Possibly on a separately created island with Mesanna’s creativity guiding the way. - Seems like a good place to do it
The idea for gates/a crystal teleporter maybe back in the day would have seemed as "making the game too easy", but nowadays you have public houses anyways that utilize the crystal teleporters to provide easy transportation.
Basically this whole idea is pretty much a glorified public player house with some special features. No way is this "game breaking", it doesnt make the game "too easy" , and it certainly doesnt "ruin the experience" for new players.
lol what?Looking at the statements in bold I don't understand how that justifies needing more of those. If they are all over the place already and easy to get to then why make it easier? So this community center can become another Luna?
