A post Popps made on U.Hall this morning got me to wondering which shard has the most points in their zoo and what happens with each tier. I made a character on every shard and checked out the zoos (Trammel only, unless the shard had no Trammel facet). The current points for each shard as of approximately mid-day today are as shown below, in order from most points to least points. I will attempt to provide updates to these figures in the future, perhaps on a weekly or monthly basis.

Tier 8
8,150,321 Catskills

Tier 6
6,256,947 Pacific

Tier 4
4,458,272 Chesapeake

Tier 3
3,994,072 Mizuho
3,734,385 Yamato
3,703,626 Atlantic
3,435,480 Europa
3,361,426 Drachenfels
3,117,250 Izumo
3,103,032 Sakura
3,098,036 Hokuto
3,070,008 Wakoku

Tier 2
2,981,369 Azuka
2,957,054 Lake Superior
2,343,562 Great Lakes

Tier 1
1,986,736 Legends
1,876,131 Arirang
1,779,729 Sonoma
1,122,530 Baja
1,012,565 Lake Austin

Tier 0
999,602 Formosa
965,092 Napa Valley
862,587 Oceania
464,229 Mugen
424,761 Origin
245,485 Balhae
135,242 Siege Perilous

The zoo gains the following exhibit when donations are sufficient to push it into the tier:

Level 1 - A crane
Level 2 - Two gray wolves, two white wolves, and two dire wolves
Level 3 - Two polar bears
Level 4 - A plague beast, a quagmire, and a bog thing
Level 5 - A wyvern
Level 6 - A drake and a dragon
Level 7 - A changeling (always seems to be in its winged formed)
Level 8 - A reptalon
Level 9 - A yamandon
Level 10 - A sphynx
Level 11 - A silver steed

Here are a few other things I noticed while out rounding up figures: Sonoma is the only shard with an npc zookeeper (Helga). Yamato, Izumo, Sakura, Hokuto, Wakoku, and Asuka all have an assortment of critters in every exhibit, in addition to any that they might have as a reward for collection points, plus the crane exhibit has water in it. (On Asuka, there is a dolphin in the crane exhibit). On Great Lakes, there is a gray crane named Inu in the crane exhibit. On Oceania, the crane exhibit is empty other than for a black power crystal labeled "A Shadow Key Fragment Resonating With Malice." In the Mizuho zoo, many of the exhibits have wash basins in them, even if they are empty of animals, and I noticed a tree with bananas hanging in it. Mizuho also has a mini zoo in one of the fields outside of New Haven. Drachenfels also has a wall with a sign partially blocking its zoo's south entrance.

Below is a list of what the zoo will accept as donations:
<ul>[*]Gold. (You get 1 point per 15 gold.)
[*]All types of pet wolves (30 points for each).
[*]Slimes (45 points for each).
[*]Polar bears (45 points for each).
[*]Unusual riding creatures (ki-rins, unicorns, nightmares, fire steeds) (250 points for each). [This category might include some other tamables, but I'm not sure what they are. It doesn't include ostards or ridgebacks. ]
[*]Beetles (rune, giant, and fire beetles) (300 points for each).
[*]Dragons and drakes (400 points for each).
[*]Reptalons (550 points for each). [/list]
A shard's zoo point total decays over time (exact decay rate is unknown at this time). However, the point total accrued by a particular character does NOT decay and may be used to acquire various types of rewards.

I'm beginning to wonder if Napa has ever had cranes. Whats the rate of decrease per day 20%? I'm sure this was fine during UO's peak, but nowadays seems like only the shards with hordes of taming fanatics has above cranes, and us low pop shards don't even have that

Populating a zoo takes a monumental effort. One reason I am active in supporting our zoo is that I believe it to be the most difficult quest in the game. Guess it's the Quixote in me

I think the decay rate is 30% per day.

Based on the figures I've been collecting, the decay rate for the zoo seems to be averaging out to about 14% to 18% per week. (Maybe not as bad as 30% per day, but still horrendous if your shard has a lot of points to maintain each week.)

I'm pretty sure that 30% comes off every 24 hours and the timer gets reset each time a new tier is reached. As long as people are donating, the observed decay rate would be less. If you want I can dig up the old posts when the zoo was changed a about 18 months ago. Back then the current points that produce a silver steed would only yield a crane!

I'm sorry, but I don't know the answers to your questions. I only started looking at all the shard numbers a few weeks ago. I know the decay rate can be pretty brutal if people don't continue donating.

I play Cats, and you can almost always find a player-run event for the week where all sorts of people get together to raise our zoo.

But as you've shown, Cats is an awsome shard for tamers

At one time (right after ML came out) Napa had a full zoo. It appears the loss of several long time players and general apathy have taken it's toll here too.

Nice job, Drachenfels! Some nice bumps for Sakura, Atlantic, Great Lakes and Asuka as well. Baja had its first zoo-related event last Sunday and another one is already in the works, so expect to see further increases for Baja

The following shards were within 97% to 99% of their previous week’s totals: Origin (99.6%), Lake Austin (99.4%), Europa (99.2%), Mizuho (97.2%), and Sonoma (96.9%). I anxiously checked the figures this morning, hoping that BAJA shard had made a real dent in our tier 1 numbers after TAMER-PALOOZA. I know we donated 206,975 points during our event on 2-10-08. But alas, we only had a 46,674 increase over last weeks totals. So basically we lost more than 160,000 points during the few days we've been taming the uber dragoooons!

It's easy to see why many tamers find this in game event frustrating and don't bother to fill up the zoo. Our tamers worked very hard to donate those 206k points. Many have continued to donate since then and in the days immediately after, our totals had gone even higher.

This extreme rate of decay seems quite like a shard spirit killer.......

What's going on!!!!!
Someone said Drachenfels is dead, but thats not the case, we just play it different then everyone else and when someone asks for help (frarc I'm talking about you) the whole community no matter what langauge you speak comes out of hiding and pulls together.

Hooray For Drachenfels!

Below are updated figures from around 8:30 am Mountain Time this morning (Saturday, February 23, 2008). The following eight shards, identified with an * below, had net increases from last week as follows: Drachenfels (10,472,085), Atlantic (437,102), Legends (305,164), Izumo (193,897), Arirang (148,406), Catskills (141,528), Formosa (128,353), and Hokuto (20,195).

*Picks herself up off the floor.*

What the heck happened on Drachenfels?!!!! Over 5 million points added last week and this week over another 10 million points added! A lot of taming went on over there and I suspect a lot of gold just got “sunk” into your zoo! I hope the new residents are very pleased with your work! Good job! In honor of your achievement, I even changed the color for your shard in the graph so you're very visible now. Couldn't leave you sitting there with a wimpy lilac color, now I could I?

It’s also nice to see Atlantic and Catskills working on trying to keep their zoo totals on an upward trend (very difficult to do once your numbers get so large), and it’s also nice to see the other five shards showing an increase.

The following shards were within 97% to 99% of their previous week’s totals: Europa (98.9%) and Wakoku (98.7%). These shards were within 90% to 96% of their previous week's totals: Mugen (95%) (maybe an upward trend starting here?), Lake Austin (95%), Sakura (95%), Yamato (95%), Balhae (94%), Chesapeake (94%), Origin (93%), Siege (92%) (hmmm….), Asuka (91%), Baja (91%), and Oceania (90%). It’s encouraging to see so many shards showing signs of activity at the zoo, even if they aren’t able to overcome the decay rate.

The total points across all shards was 85,963,595. The net increase across all shards in one week was 7,323,012 points.

What happend? You witnessed what a "small and death" shard can do when we pull together. This is the result of 2 weeks of hard work and alot of donations from several generous people. We done alot of word to word and ingame advertising (or called it begging) with runes to help the Zoo.Its not always quantity that matter but quality.

We peaked at 17.6 million on Thursday. It will be very hard to maintain and even impossible.I hoped to move it up 1 Tier a week but never hoped to see this. This is a message to all people on all shards. Anything is possible!

I'll thank all people on Drachenfels to make this possible. We did it, we made it on top of the list. We filled the Zoo completely.Even if this was just for ones. It just feels great!

PS: We are now at 16.8 million points.

Anyone that's reading this, please take a few minutes and read the chronicle of how Drachenfels pulled this off. It's absolutely amazing: Can't we try to help the Zoo? . Hopefully your achievement will help inspire some new activity on some shards where there hasn't been much going on at the Zoo and inspire more activities on the shards where people have already done so much.

Keep going ! It can be done... and as I said, the best reward of all is seeing the Zoo filled and feeling so heartened by the fact people ARE willing to help out and make an effort together.

As Frarc said, its the quality that counts... relentless marking and dropping runes helps a lot ( he did most of that, LOL, and still does ) and also shameless tin rattling everytime someone gets near the Zoo... one guy who ambled up on a blue beetle said " ah but I'm not a tamer ", I just replied, " Oh thats fine, the blue box takes gold, you know ! "

Cat, could you please post your story in this thread? I think it would be a great inspiration for everyone out there who has been involved with zoo-stocking. I know that I smile every time I think of it as I drop off another pet at the zoo.
