"You lack the skill to wield this weapon"

I have been thinking lately on an idea pertaining to melee weapons. As we have it now, anyone can equip a weapon or shield, and get the benefits from the weapon/shield, as long as they have the strength to hold it. I request that there is made a few 'second level' melee weapons and shields that require skill to wield them.

The benefit of a second level of weaponery? Perhaps higher base damage. Higher DI when crafted and imbued. Melee range of 2 tiles instead of one with the basic weapons.Higher dci cap with shields for those with 100+ skill in parry.Shields that can be imbued with resists. This may be overpowered, but maybe add a sixth slot on those weapons when imbuing?

Either way,I would like to see added weapons and shields that when equiped will say to the ones that see me on the screen. "There is a warrior" instead of just a caster with a shield.

Thoughts? Ideas? Please reply with better ideas.

I know what you mean.

Its kinda funny how most Mages talk about how superior their template is yet they have been relying on weapons and/or Warrior moves such as Disarm for years.
Can't blame them though since the Devs are the ones who have made it this way.

My favorite was back in the day when everytime you fought a Mage they simply chained Disarm.
Makes alot of sense that a Mage can be holding something in his hand and Disarm a weapon that you are holding with both hands! Not to mention the fact that you have 140 Dex to the Mages 40 Dex.

Mages have always needed these types of crutches to compete.

Anyone with half a brain realizes that the most powerful and unbalancing thing ever introduced into the game is the sc no minus mage wep with hit spell and a billion Dci that you see on every caster in the game these days.
Max out your Dci and get a free 120 skill points added to your template at the same time. Are you kidding me? Never once has anyone been able to logically explain why these were introduced.
At least the Devs didnt also make one perfect item to go along with every mage wep. My bad, they did make the Crystalline ring ouch.

you obviously have no idea what you are talking about..

holding a weapon with 0 skill does not let you perform any of the special moves weapons get.. also, holding a shield with 0 skill does not let you parry any attacks at all..

having the mage weapon property also does not let you use any of the special moves weapons have either..

the ONLY way a mage can spam disarm is if they HAVE 90 skill in tactics and 100 skill in a weapon skill of the weapon they are carrying OR unarmed (no mage weapon) with skill in wrestling..

is kinda miss informed..

the reason it is miss informed is magery does not give you inherent DCI such as EVERY weapon skill does..

really..
120 swords vs 0 swords = get hit 100% of the time.
120 swords vs 120 magery = get hit 100% of the time.

even with dci
120 swords + 45 hci vs 0 swords + 45 dci = get hit 100% of the time.
and
120 swords + 45 hci vs 120 magery + 45 dci = get hit 100% of the time.

mage weapons make things fair..

mage weapons make things fair..

1) I never said or implied that the mage wep property allowed the Disarm move.
My statement about Disarm was quite simply & clearly that it is wrong that a Mage with little dex can Disarm a 2-handed weapon from a Warrior with huge amounts of Dex. The mage performing this move while holding something is what makes it even sillier.

2) I never said or implied that the mage wep gives you inherent Dci. I simply stated that it has a ton of Dci on it. Especially when you consider the other huge properties it carries.

3) You are missing the whole point.
A weapon with those insane properties should not also give you 120 skill points.
120 skill points which quite effectively make up almost all of the Mages defense.

Draw up all the little Dci/hit charts you want but anyone actually fighting against a Mage with these weps knows that they are etremely effective. Its not uncommon at all to whiff 3 or 4 straight times on a Caster with nothing more then max Dci(incredibly easy to fit on EVERY casting template)and nothing other then the mage wep.

Lastly, you forgot one other stat when you did your Dci/hit chart:
A Warrior with 120 weapon skill + 120 tactics + 120 resist + 70 Dci + any other skill you want to add still gets hit 100% of the time by Flame Strike(and I am not sure but dont a couple other spells hit 100% lol?)
Did I mention the Protection spell yet?

The reason I have requested to have a second tier of weapons and shields is two fold. The main reason is for effectiveness of the weapons that would be made available. Second is the look of it. Tamers are easily recognized by the pets they have in tow. Why can not my fighter be as easily recognized?
