Will any game give the same feeling?

Heya,

I was listening Stones, and it got me sooo freaking nostalgic.

I played UO actively 2000-2010 and been activating my acc for 1 month just to keep my house up, but I think next time I collect my valuables to bank.

When I started UO 2000, I was 13y old and this game just swallowed me. I remember summer holidays, during the day hanging out with my friends, but the whole evening and night just playing UO. Defending cities from invasions, going hunting with random groups, trying to save money for my first house.

Well, after EA took over, AoS etc. took a lot of the magic away. I just focused on PvP and champ hunting, good times still thou. But yeah, now UO just isn't UO for me anymore, and my shard does not have the playerbase anymore for it to be fun.

Do you think any new game could give the same magical feeling again, or was it just because UO was the first one? At least none of the new MMORPG has given the same feeling, but maybe one will someday.

I don't think anyone who has played UO will receive that same feeling, because no game that will ever be created can replicate that feeling for you personally. I think a lot of people feel the same way about the first MMO they played.

Personally, my fondest memories of UO were when I was a newbie. Those days where I understood little about the game and was still discovering stuff were fun and exciting for me. UO kinda lost its charm after I'd "graduated" from that period, and I feel the same way about many games I play. It's almost like I resent getting more experienced as I like the magical feeling when everything's new. Perhaps I'm just weird in that regard!

Sometimes, when I don't have time to actually play, I log in for just a few minutes and listen to Stones on Dawn's Music Box. :)

Although it's true that there is no bringing back that magical sense of wonder we all felt as newbies so long ago, I still feel that touch of enchantment, however subtle, every time I log in. :)

Doubtful. The novelty is what bears that nostalgia. No MMO will be new again once you have experienced the genre.

Not to say there wont be great experiences out there, but nothing ever gives you the same kind of jazz as your first kiss.

...

Well, after EA took over
EA has owned UO from day 1, just FYI. Now granted several decisions and moves (figuratively and literally) have been less than stellar in regards to how they affected UO and Ultima as a brand, but they've owned Ultima long before UO came out.

In fact they bought OSI just for Ultima and Wing Commander, for the most part. Garriott had to go through hoops with upper EA executives to get UO funded.

Ironic that BioWare executives claim that they now control UO, even though UO is still not treated like it.

I doubt any game will give that feeling again, you were 13 I doubt you will get any of the feelings you had when you were that age again. LOL I remember playing a game that had a great feeling for me when I was that age on my TI 99 4A. It was called Tunnels of Doom. I spent hours playing that, lol mind you it would take hours to load levels and what not.

All I can say is remember its not just the game that changed, it was you also.

Some players never play others games, but did play all of Ultima's Solo games and continued for another 14 years playing Ultima Online and will continue to play UO. Those players haven't lost that so-called "buzz".
