Who was the person that posted about a "Siege-like" game a while back?

Only games out that resemble Siege (the ruleset and core design) are EVE Online and Darkfall Online.

EVE is about space ships and is only like Siege in set up (no safe zones unless player created, etc. etc.) but it's about space ships... great game, just not my style.

Darkfall Online is like UO was when it first came out. Medieval setting, full loot, no real safe zones (even tho NPC cities have guard towers,) player housing, etc. etc.

DFO has elements of games like Shadowbane infused in it to... the Siege system is a crappier version of SBs, but the basic principle is the same. A guild (clan) builds a city and other players fight you for control of it. One major difference is they are preset buildings and locations where in SB you created it anywhere you wanted. It also has elements of RvR (racial vs racial... there are 6 races and certain races have racial alignments with each other.) So it has elements of DAoC/WAR in it too.

Aside from that... the only thing left is free shards.

Oh and I wanted to mention one more... Mortal Online and I want to caution anyone who's thinking about trying that game. It's actually pretty close to UO, but I REALLY want anyone considering it to think long and hard before you go and play it. It's also currently in a pathetic beta (more pathetic than DFs) I think they had 10 people lagging to hell trying to stress test the server a few months ago. From what I understand... the game is at least a year off of even resembling a game a launch.

The thing about MO is that the Devs are having people (players) write code for them. Who in the hell knows what these people are inserting into the code and on top of that, being almost open source means that hacking, cheating, exploiting in this game... will be guaranteed and I'm willing to bet worse than in any other. ESP. when you consider players are writing code on top of that.

So... I'm not touching that game with a 10 foot pole.

DFO is pretty much my koolaid for the moment... tons of fun.

I'd love to try DFO, just seems like another WoW game where I'd need to play 5hr a day.

Yeah, I don't need second job either. Looking for something very Siege-like. Was it Crunch that posted something along those lines? I've searched like 18 pages back and can't find the post. =/

Anyone know his Stratics username?

And it's item insurance, no diminishing returns (aka no meditation needed), toggle weapon specials freely-with cursor, gimped out necro summoned pets (seriously, they own on that server), and did I mention, ITEM INSURANCE?

I don't think Kat is thinking of this. :p

I actually like mortal online, yes they are alot to go but what IS in the game is good.

I like BR's little "bypartisan" views, hes such a republican lol. Everytime he talks about MO, its like your best friend telling you how nasty a girl is while he tries to get with her behind your back.

Simple observation.

I'm not a fan boy of any game right now. I have hope for MO right now because its not fully developed. I had hope for DFO but I don't like how it turned out, I may not like how MO turns out but I have hope.

Id sell my soul for multiplayer fallout 3, (anyone that brings up a certain WoW clone shall be shot)

I have found a "siege-like" place that has around 500 players at a time and is very old school. A PM would be within the ROC :)

I can kinda see what you're saying, but I thought you knew why these kinds of games are like this.

In games like UO... things start off REALLY slow, but as you progress towards end-game things become easier and easier. It's like on Siege when you were building your character and account... you had to stock up on things. Spending a day sheering sheep for a few coins as a newb. Getting regs to work your character (before LRC) and what-not.

You don't need to play 5hrs a day and you don't need a tricked out character to play. Just over last weekend, there was a PvP tourny and the guy who won it had a completely scrub character but he was just that damn good.

I dunno... it's all how you look at it. When I started DFO, it felt like I was back in the stone age. I couldn't do ****, didn't have much and it took me forever to gather the **** I needed to play. Now, the stuff that took me a while to gather back then takes me moments.

The biggest thing to overcome is starting all over again. I'd even say it's probably the biggest reason people don't leave their current shards for Siege.... get past that and actually into the game and good god does things open up.

These games are all about the end game (just like Siege)

Seriously?

My review of MO is completely objective. It's way off on being finished and the open source/community coding is the only things keeping me away from giving it a serious go right now.

I've never seen a game where the community codes it.. that's pretty damn scary.

My experience playing MO ended shortly after it started. I was lagging when I logged in and by the time my screen fully loaded, someone had already stolen my starting axe, rendering my character completely useless. I wandered around for an hour or so trying to figure how to get started and there was absolutely no content or direction. I'm not asking for someone to hold my hand, but I also don't want to be part of someone else's cruel joke where I get thrown into a world and have to try to figure everything out on my own. I just don't have time for that anymore.

That's actually one of my gripes with DFO too.

There's no real guide or anything to start you off. Players get these misconceptions from what they perceive cause they just don't know and haven't figured it out yet.

Like character development. If you know what you're doing... you could have a competitive character in 3 weeks of casual play. Currently, people look at character development (no skill caps and complete freedom) as a "I have to train everything!?!?" which is not the case.

Same thing where where to go, what to fight, how to make money properly, everything. If you don't know what you're doing and no one to help you figure it out to tell you whats up... you could wind up dragging that 3 weeks out for months and months.

MO is even more brutal in that regard. When I tried it on my friends account, we couldnt figure out how to res... lol. A GM was nice enough to explain it to us... but having to figure out the basics is ********. Games come with an instruction manual for a reason...

Sent you a PM. We'll talk this weekend about setting you up properly. Any ex-guildie of mine that was cool has an invitation to roll with me and the rest of my guild.

Everyone else, I'll happily give you all the information you need from what to do, where to go and how to set up your stuff... but I look forward to tab dancing on your corpse should you come to my world. So my hand holding will only go so far.
