I'm wanting to craft some weapons for PvP use with my some of my left over runics. What weapon(s) would you suggest I craft and with what ore.

Thanks!

Depends on the template you play but...

First off I recommend Dull Copper Ingots for weapons because you get the 100% Phys with it.

As for weapons:
War Forks
Kryss
Diamond Mace
Mace
Bone Harvestor
Ornate Ax
War Ax
Maybe a Katana

I left out archery since you said Ore.

I built a database that will help display each base weapons DPS based on the weapons base stats, Stam and SSI.

- 1 Handed Swords .
- - Radient Scimitar has the highest avg DPS, if you can make some exceptional Twinkling Scimitars, you could end up with some nice mods.(26.65)
- - Next would be Elven Machete, Cutlass, Katana, and Wakizashi. Between those, choose which have the best specials.(~25)

- 2 Handed Swords.
- - Crescent Blade has the highest avg DPS.(25.63)
- - Rune Blade and Daisho can also have the highest DPS depending on Stam and SSI.(~25.3)

- 2 Handed Axes. Prone to Lumberjack bonus. The highest DPS is the Hatchet(25.11), but that is not craftable via a runic hammer.
- - Ornate Axe, not guaranteed to be exceptional, but could us a recipe axe to boost mods. (24.79)
- - Axe. (23.92)
- - Double Axe & Executioner's Axe. (22.96)

- 1 Handed Maces.
- - Diamond Mace, not guaranteed to be exceptional, but the highest Smith made DPS Mace. (24.71)
- - Mace, guaranteed to be exceptional, and quickly closes the gap on the Diamond Mace DPS (23.32)

- 2 Handed Maces.
- - The Tessen has the highest DPS in the game at only 90 Dex. That is the ceiling for that weapon, however, since it swings at max at that point. (37.31)
- - no other notable 2 handed smith crafted maces.

- 1 Handed Fencing Weapons.
- - Assassin Spike and Kryss have the same base stats and swing at max with only 90 stam. (31.57)
- - War Fork out damages those with 120 stam and 5%SSI or 90 Dex and 20% SSI. (25.63)
- - Leafblade can out DPS all the above with enough SSI/Stam. (25.11)

- 2 Handed Fencing Weapons.
- - Short Spear swings at Max with 90 Dex. (33.01)
- - Double Bladed Staff with a little SSI or 30 more Stam surpasses the above. (29.9)
- - Elven Spellblade with even more SSI/Stam can surpass the above. (26.65)
- - Spear with alot of SSI/Stam can surpass all the above. (25.11)

- Bows. All are very close to each other, but I'll list the order of the highest avgs.
- - Crossbow. (19.13)
- - Heavy Crossbow. (18.57)
- - Repeating Crossbow. (17.94)
- - Magical Shortbow. (17.54)
- - Bow. (17.43)
- - Yumi. (17.22)

Enjoy!

(##.##) = the Damage Per Second calculated for 90 Stam and 0% SSI. Special moves and properties like HCI and Hit Spell augment DPS but they have outside factors which could alter the calculations. This is a method of calculating the base weapons' effectiveness.

Most of those I agree with on DPS alone. The Bone Harvester and War Axe are kind of low on my DPS list, are their Specials that good? There are only 3 one-handed-swords with a lower DPS than the Harvester. The War Axe is right below the Mace but it's 3 DPS below it.

note: I don't PvP, I'm simply looking at DPS data.

First, I recommend using Gold ingots rather than DC because you also get the Lower Requirements and a little extra Luck (in case you PvM).

I made alot of Twinkling Scimitars (Radiant Scimitar + DCI 6%) for my 1-handed Paladin, but now that I'm arming my Samurai, I'm all into 2-handed weapons.

The best I see are the Mage's Rune Blade (Rune Blade + FC1) or the Ruby Mace (Diamond Mace + DI 5%). I'm mostly going with the Mage's Rune Blade because it's a Sword weapon and that's the skill my Samurai has. The only problem with these two weapons is that they require SSI 25-30% as one of their properties to hit the maximum DPS.

My choices are all based on DPS at max swing rate and the weapon's special attacks.

I included the war ax for it's bleed special ability and the bone harvy for para and mortal.

To truly be successful in PvP you will need to switch weapons depending on what you need to do and what type of temp your opponent plays.

For example when a dexer fights a mage, it helps to DP the mage, but it also helpt tremendously to bleed the mage as well. So if you can DP first and then bleed it makes curing and healing more difficult. After that you switch to your best dps weapons.

I dodnt say gold ingots because he asked about PvP. Gold is a good choice, but Dull Copper is better for PvP.

This is a good rule of thumb  although properties like "Hit Spell" and Hit Lower Defence are almost equaly as important.

When crafting weapons, would it be safe to say that the higher runic you use, the lower ingot you should use to lessen the chance of getting too many random properties on the weapon? That is if you have a handful of desired props you want on a particular weapon.

Dull copper is the best unless you would like to modify the damage type or you are making pvm only weapons. On something crafted purely for pvp DC all the way.

I always burn runics on warforks and kryss but I run a nox fencer. Bone harvesters are ok mainly because even though they are slow when you factor in the higher damage they do with the ability to prevent healing they are deadly when used with the proper templates. I try to stick to faster weapons though. Katanas are an excellent choice they are very fast and have armor ignore which is a decent setup when you pair it with a bone harvester.

If you want swordsmanship weaons go with harvesters and katanas. If you want fencing do the kryss warfork combo. Those weapon pairs seem to be pretty nasty in pvp. I couldn't tell you about mace fighting I just beat people down with a berserkers lol. You would be surprised how well that weapon works at times.

I certainly wouldnt rely on DPS alone. Anyone who PvP's will tell you its in the swing speed and the specials,, Weapons with infectuious strike, mortal wound, bleed, and disarm primarily that swing at 1.5 or better depending on the weapons SSI and the users stamina,(most folks run 150+ stamina so a high ssi may not be needed on some weapons) would be what i would craft.
One handed SC no negative weapons with a hitspell are very much sought after so keep that in mind when choosing ores and runics.

The type of ingot can only effect the elemental damage spread and a few lesser properties (luck. Lower Requirements). I always say use an ingot type that will give you 1 elemental damage by default. DC and Gold are the only two that default to 1 elemental damage (physical). I go with Gold because it also gives a little bit of luck and also the Lower Requirements.

I would have to disagree with using gold because you will always get those two properties and thus decreasing the amount of properties you can get on a weap, besides in pvp you will never need luck and lower req. DC is the way to go for pvp weaps.

The inherent properties of the metal have no effect on the quantity of properties added by a runic hammer. I have weapons with 9 properties on them. I don't understand why people are so stuck on DC when gold does the 100% Physical damage also, but also adds a little luck and the Lower Requirements. Why would you settle for only Physical damage when you can have a little more? Even if you don't PvM, if you rolled a weapon with 140 luck while you are making your weapons, you could sell it for alot more than the ingots cost you.

Don't craft any weapons at all. Blacksmithy is totally useless now since you can just get a Soul Seeker or other artifact and insure it and use that to your heart's content. UO has killed Blacksmithy all together, the only thing a smith is good for is to make repair deeds. No more having to seek out a blacksmith to repair something for you, lets make UO a one player game.

Oh and when the durability gets low, just go do a few BODS and get some powder of fortification to beef it up again. No need to ever craft weapons again.

Spoken from someone who obviously doesn't PvP or understand Blacksmithing.

Just a couple examples of crafted weapons that make the Soul Seeker look average:

The left one was made from a Verite hammer before the Arms Lore Change. The right one was made from a Val Hammer last February.

Neither one is particularly great at PvP, but they aren't as useless as the Soul Seeker would be. SSI 60% on a weapon that naturally swings at 1.25 is waste of a property and it actually hurts the HML and HLL on it. The Soul Seeker also has no DI on it at all. It's great for killing Ogre Lords (especially Arctic OL's), but not much else. None of the other Artifact weapons have the right set of properties to make them "uber" for PvP.

This statement is completely false. I couldn't disagree more with it.
