They do it is called Doom Gauntlet.....the more people that show up the more monsters spawn.I've always prided myself on the Self-sufficiency... though I do know it's kind of a downfall but you got it right in your first paragraph... the spawn rate in most places is so dismal and slow that you can't possibly take a group into them... they would be bored out of their minds in no time at all.... Infact one or two people can pretty much obliterate all spawn from Destard... I can remember back in my early days when it took a whole guild to kill ONE dragon. Now one person can destroy them all in no time.
There really is very little for a guild to do... most things and area's the spawn rate is so slow you can clear the entire dungeon alone. I recall going to shame and working spawn in one little area and you'd no sooner kill something and it would instantly respawn.
I wish they could have some code that could adjust the spawn to the number of players in the area. If someone is actively hunting there then the spawn rate stays normal... another person joins the spawn rate increases a bit... 5 people enter the spawn rate increases more and the amount of spawn increases as well... So instead of 2 or 3 mobs in that area you have 2 mobs spawning per person.....etc.... making it more challenging and more fun... and if they really wanted to improve "community" and give folk reason to join a guild they could have it so when the spawn bumps up like that so does the loot... And they could make it so being in party wasn't a detriment by putting more special in your pack drops in for being in a party... Something like this would make it harder for folk who multibox... and better for normal players to band together...
Mages could too, but it was inefficient & would also take forever. Each of these characters can solo peerless or champs because of these new armor and weapon mods. When I left the game tamers were really the only template that could solo bossess...and they made it worse by adding dreads and greaters. I don't know if players complained but now tamers are lamers and with a little effort and planning almost any template is more powerful then tamers and their greaters. I like that there is balance...but I think they were better off nerfing tamers....
A suit of 55 resists and 80 LRC is newbie garbage. If I gave that away to a newbie for free I'd apologize for not having anything decent to give them. Some of you people need to start living in reality. Nobody is going to walk around Moonglow picking cotton, the debate over LRC has been over for years and regs lost, etcetera etcetera.Starter suits at 55 resists? 80% lower reg suit instantly for new players? More gold? I've never done a tutorial so I cant speak on that aspect but I have to say no on most of the other things mentioned.
Actually I hate to break it to you but Tamers now ARE Nerfed. Most of the more "modern" mobs in the game cut through a greater dragon with ease... and since they do MASSIVE area damage or suck in the tamer and chew them up for dinner Tamers can't really do much of anything solo anymore.... it's all "Sampires" and such... Tamers can meat shield but the dragon takes so long to take something down most dexer types can hack through it in no time and a tamer would be there 20 min or more. Tamers do steady damage over time.... but it takes a LONG time to do it.... Dexers can seriously hack though most anything anymore. And with many of the new area type spells and such of Mystics even Magic users do better than a Tamer. Most pets can't compete with other classes anymore. The BEST a dragon can do in damage is about 75 on doing their breath damage "if" the mob they are against is weaker to fire... Most big time mobs are pretty resistant to ANYTHING a greater dragon can put out... Whereas my archer can consistantly do 222 damage over and over... compare that with the dragon slowly chomping away at about 25 to 75 each time.... and Dragons are SLLLLOOOOWWWW..... No Tamers do NOT need Nerfed. Granted yes it is the OTHER skills a Tamer has that put out more damage but consider that most tamers who have a greater are already using up 300 minimum points of skill...... that doesn't leave a whole heck of a lot of skill points left to work with... they aren't going to be competing with a Dexer or pure magic user. They do it is called Doom Gauntlet.....the more people that show up the more monsters spawn.
I think the problem is more about each character being an uber demi-god. Player characters have become super heroes. There is virtually nothing that cant be soloed by virtually anyone. Incredible weapons and armor are very easy to get....too easy! My original account had 7 characters when I returned recently from my 6 year break. I rebuilt a total of 9 characters ( 7 on cats...two off worlders) from the ground up in a couple months. Each of these characters can solo peerless or champs because of these new armor and weapon mods. When I left the game tamers were really the only template that could solo bossess...and they made it worse by adding dreads and greaters. They are there. You gotta catch them before they get frustrated and disappear. Try New Haven.New players? I don't think I have seen any in years.
I totally agree with much of what your saying..... though I can't believe that you couldn't find help. Not sure what shard you were on but that is very sad that no one would assist you... of course if you were in the "help" channel for newbs I can somewhat understand as I think the only ones in there are the gold sellers.as someone who just started lack of noob friendly dungouns.when i started i did read the information on the uo website and its frankly ******** they still had despise listed as a beginer dungoun.its not took me about 2 mins to loose all my stuff and log of in frustation and dont get me started on trying to buy anything from player vendors you better have a jar of vasoline on hand everything is about 2000 times what it should cost ad good luck trying to find anyone to hand out information the fact is this isnt uo when you guys started .virtually no one here is going offer you any advice asking for information in the popular spots is like banging your head against a wall no one cares no one answers 99.9 percent of the time
If by chance you are on catskills...look me up....I will get you setup and hooked up with some gear and a crew to play with as you learn. Send me a PM here if you are playing Catsid love to start with 100 gold and 3 regs if they would roll the encounters back to what they were.i did find someone to share some information with but when you ask 20 people and only 1 person responds most newbies wont stick around to ask that many people.its sad you cant even use the games website most of that information is either missing or wrong .i think alot of veterans have this mindset were it was hard for them so it should be hard for us the problem with that is most veterans played when inflation was nill and the encounters were appropriate for the level.we start with more gold but almost no dungeons to hunt with an economy thats completely broken i played in 1997 and its harder to start now then back then
If you're on Atlantic or Lake Superior, I can help you out. I've got more stuff on Lake Superior, but I have enough on Atl to get you some cheap stuff to get started. And I can answer questions, give you a guided tour, etc.id love to start with 100 gold and 3 regs if they would roll the encounters back to what they were.i did find someone to share some information with but when you ask 20 people and only 1 person responds most newbies wont stick around to ask that many people.its sad you cant even use the games website most of that information is either missing or wrong .i think alot of veterans have this mindset were it was hard for them so it should be hard for us the problem with that is most veterans played when inflation was nill and the encounters were appropriate for the level.we start with more gold but almost no dungeons to hunt with an economy thats completely broken i played in 1997 and its harder to start now then back then
They're actually still there, I have a newbie char on one of the shards logged out in the SE-era area where new samurai went to learn. The devs could turn those back on, link them to New Haven and save themselves a little bit of effort. (The SE area is literally a walled garden, so they needn't worry about newbs getting filleted...it even had a mini dungeon)i can only assume the reason they removed most of the newbie startings areas was to force us to buy advanced tokens of course that only works 1 out 10 times the other 9 we just quit
This is the best reply so far. It addresses a lot of problems but it doesn't really offer much in the way of specific solutions. Really these issues can be fixed very easily. One of the big issues I see for new players is all the variables involved in starting the game. For example, CC or EC, if they pick one they don't like, they might quit never knowing the other exists. Once they pick a client, they have to pick a shard. The game looks dead unless they pick Atlantic which is probably around 1 in 25 chance since there are so many shards, and if they pick a dead shard they quit thinking no one plays the game. Once they pick a shard they have to know where to go on the shard, even if they did pick Atlantic they will never see people and think the game is dead unless they go to Luna, Britain, or Fel Yew Gate. Even if they do find people, they have no way of knowing which profession to choose or how to train any of the skills without someone telling them.
That is a whole lot of completely random choices to make in the first 5 minutes of playing the game, and all of those random choices greatly impact a new players opinion of the game and whether to quit or not.
