So lame.... I could accept it if you played Siege. But judging by your comments you haven't played for along time there. Don't like it when people base their comments on outdated experiences.
Of course, I'd loved to be correct if you have played there recently. Maybe I've seen your character.
Anyway, Siege Perilous is one of my favourite shards. And I don't PvP much. I'm a crafter and a merchant. I enjoy the slower pace of life (ROT isn't quite as bad as people 'assume').
Sure the community is small and it goes through quieter periods. But we do have a community that I frankly wouldn't change for anything. You've got your ******bags (no names, no names) but generally people can be cool. In a recent event the Red's worked along with everyone else despite ample opportunities to slaughter defenceless crafters.
I found my original shard, Europa in this case, too much of a chore and I wanted a shard where I could actually play a part.
Anyway, my point is don't simple jump to conclusions about Siege. Its easy to make assumptions about us Siegers, but you might just find us a rewarding bunch of people to play with
Third week-end in February 2010. Character name: Megilhir. Template: Fencer-Miner-Smith.
Event: Oh look I am out of gold and need some smithing hammers. Let me go to the Skara Bank and put my ingots and shovels away and do a few Noble escorts. Hmmmm, now where is the closest dungeon to get this guy to? Oh yea, Destard. There are monsters enroute so I better wear this set of exceptional Chain and Ring armor I have crafted.
First escort, no drama. Second and third are similiar.
Then the fatal fourth escort. Do de do...Ahh here is Destard entry coming up. Oh crud! There is a guy with a Dragon emerging from the Dungeon.
Megilhir: "Hail good Knight are you well this fine day?"
your ******bag: "All Kill"
Megilhir "Oo OoOo oOO": (Translation how about a ress mate?)
your ******bag: '...continues to loot corpse and actually takes everything, to include the sissors for bandages.'
Great RP experience. After all I am certain he needed the paultry gear I had compared to bulging sacks of gold from the Destard farm.
I believe that addresses your incorrect comments about;
1: Lame
2: Outdated experiences
3: How 'everyone gets along, even Reds'
4: How everyone can be cool.
Now to be balanced, I have been honor killed and ress'd immediately afterward. Not always but often enough. Yet that has not occured once in the past year.
I do not frequent SP regularly, perhaps a few times monthly.
I do not attack first. I greet people. I mine. I smith. And, often enough when traveling get beset by gank-sters or hoons. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.
The basic flaw with Seige Perilous and any "Classic" client based shard is the real lack of repercussions for criminal acts. Reds should be hunted down by angry NPC mobs occasionally. Their houses should become unsecure. Guards posted around their residences for a week or two. No havens! There is more but until an investment is made by the programers that is not going to occur.
The fact is that SP is based entirely on non-consentual PvP. The other aspects are window dressing and fluff.
SP is NOT what UO was intended to be. This is simply because SP is composed almost entirely by a population who consider nonconsentual PvP to be the penultimate form of virility. As soon as Trammel became available the lion's share of decent people left Fel to never return. As SP has no Trammel (nor should it) most people simply left SP.
By removing an absolutely dominate slice of the demographic that was decent SP is left with the dredges of the social order. And that is, in absolute terms and essence, the dominant remaining demographic on SP. And yes, there a few decent people on SP but they are rarer than a Paragon Valorite Elemental. They are without a doubt more common on other shards.
Like yesterday for example. I have been leveling a Legendary Smith on Atlantic recently (finally made it) and in the process saw a few new players asking advice. NOT begging for gear! Huge difference. So I popped over to New Haven and passed out a few starter sets of GM armor and weapons. Nothing big to most reading this. But to the new players it may have been. This simply does not happen in a Corp Por first - Talk later venue.
I will still log in SP Megilhir occassionally, get a few skill ups in some skills and then go to one of the other 5 shards I frequent for decent interaction.
That all written, there are those who love SP and its rule set. Excellent! More power to you. Go forth and gank. I do not advocate taking that away.
But seriously, do not attempt to deceive the readers of this forum with the line or implication that: "Siege Perilous is the REAL UO experience and full of goodness and light." Heck if you want a real New Orleans experience go off Bourbon street a few blocks and get mugged. Fun huh? But you got the real Big Easy experience and not the tourist vesrion didn't you?
