Massively OP seems to think it is going to be a steam launch. I tend to agree.
I think a lot of people will try it just because it's there. I don't think that it's a long-term great idea, but it will increase the population at least temporarily and expose more people to the game. I doubt a lot of people will stay because they tend to be fickle, and with thousands of other titles to choose from, most of them will move on, but a few will stay.I just don't see the point in a Steam launch. New players aren't gonna play this dinosaur of a game on Steam when there's thousands of other games on the same platform with better graphics, better servers, better communities, better devs.
Because for the hobbyists it's a passion.Sounds crazy but one does exist.
main page I saw, had a copyright by EA.
And that you must have a subscription to Ultima Online Classic Client.
but the wiki said it was for free shards.
=============
looks like it was created for free shards.
if free shards can create Mobile UO, why can't Broadsword?
do an internet search for : mobileuo
I have test a mobile version of UO make by an UO fan...This still makes me giggle.
Dev's cannot keep the 500 people that still play UO happy, how do they expect to keep their "biggest audience ever". (from 500 to over 250,000 in one release i gotta see)
I would say if the "mobile" rumour is true, it will be the saddest joke of all time.
UO is so far out of date for "mobile" games these days......unless they monetise the hell out of it
Though you can always count on Messanna to be true to her ways....after stringing you all along all year, it will be a total let down from what people are hoping for![]()
For some of the "players" it's a job as well!Because for the hobbyists it's a passion.
For Mesanna & Co it's just a job.
So the former create a mobile client.
The latter still trying to figure why a cabinet door is not closing properly.
Yet I throw them some peanuts every other month to keep the show going.
Anniversary gifts Sept 1. The events start Sept 24. Its in the newsletter...My guess is a coupled days after Labor Day... anyone else?
I believe I read somewhere,Hawkwind ≠ The Avatar
Completely separate individual.
Mainline Ultima lore relies heavily on time travel during the Age of Darkness (specifically Ultima I & II). Hawkwind is the Royal Seer during Ultima IV, but is not till the Age of Armageddon (Ultima VI-IX) he really does anything. He's seen and interacted with once in Ultima V, pt. 1 mainly as an exposition dump. It isn't even revealed that Hawkwind and the Time Lord are the same person until Ultima IX. Retcons are annoying that way. (Hawkwind is basically the Doctor from Doctor Who circa 1981, his Ultima VII portrait is that of Tom Baker)I believe I read somewhere,
Ultima Lore says that the Avatar opens a portal to bring the past into the Present.
Isn't that what Hawkwind did 5 years ago?
So thats why I made that comment.
I have only played the online game, so I only know the info wikipedia has on Ultima (Series).
but either way, the sound of Serpents Isle next year would be a big and bold endeavor.
magical storms, 3 new cities to explore... that would be awesome.
everything is just guess work right now.
anyways, I'm sure whatever they have planned will be awesome.
The current EM team has really been providing some juicy story lines with rich narratives that really add value to Ultima lore if I must say so.Mainline Ultima lore relies heavily on time travel during the Age of Darkness (specifically Ultima I & II). The Avatar is technically a time traveler though, seeing as he normally resides on contemporary Earth. The Britannia he plays savior to exists in the 27th century (Ultima VII is set post 2673).
UO lore pretty much precludes there being "an Avatar," mainly due to the fact the players were intended to be their own avatars. It would be difficult for there to be a game controlled main hero that we'd have been expected to give a damn about for 23 years. while we were all just fodder for his battles. We shouldn't expect that we will ever actually BE "Avatars" though, as that could make the game kind of boring (unless they created a whole new end-game strategy that actually required people to knight all the Virtues...sigh)
We also sorta kinda have Serpent Isle already, it was one of the many iterations/retcons/nightmare pancakings of the ouroboros that is Ilshenar. That facet bears absolutely no resemblance to what it was originally meant to be and the addition of the UO2Kilrathi LiteMeer and Juka really didn't help. While they could make a more faithful version of the Lands of Danger and Despair, I'm not sure we really need more empty space to spread out the player density. (I'd rather they better utilize/revamp what we already have)
Since UO was never meant to last this long, Ultima-ey things have been sort of shoehorned in haphazardly. Undoing that at this stage would take a concerted effort of several years of mandatory worldwide hardcore lore events that actually had consequences.
The current EM team has really been providing some juicy story lines with rich narratives that really add value to Ultima lore if I must say so.
There was a recent event with Covid-19 mobs and another event with urine stained sheets and more.
I think these two events are tied to Hawkwind, Avatar and everything else most definitely.

Keep up the good work guys
And anyone who wonders who Tom Baker is just look at my trusty AvatarRetcons are annoying that way. (Hawkwind is basically the Doctor from Doctor Who circa 1981, his Ultima VII portrait is that of Tom Baker)
Doubt it. It's not exactly a new program, it's been around for years on both Xbox and the Origin client on PC. They just renamed it this month.Hold on, wait a minute.......
Haven't EA just launched or announced the launch of their own version of Xbox Live (basically a monthly sub to access games on the platform)?
Is that the big news, UO is going on EA Play?

Hmmm.... I wonder if they are going to go after the Latin American market? Add some Mayan/Incan/Aztec culture and mythos? The only logical speculation I can come up with is that the team plans to market the game to underdeveloped countries.
Don't buy the cover story, it's in the works.Hmmm.... I wonder if they are going to go after the Latin American market? Add some Mayan/Incan/Aztec culture and mythos?
Maybe I'm missing it... the only thing I see about Sept 24th is in regards to the "major update". There is nothing in the Black Gate section about a date.Anniversary gifts Sept 1. The events start Sept 24. Its in the newsletter...
I thought for sure that I was the only one who determined how late in the month it is using the expiration date of my milk. FYI, the milk I bought yesterday expires on the 26th as well, therefore, I need to pay American Express. There is not a lot of days left in September. I just bought milk that doesn't expire until the 26th. So you think we are going to have the big announcement and the fall events. They both should be in September then.
CC users will never accept any other client and I don't blame them if they like it.... personally I don't like the CC and where they are failing is starting new clients and giving up finishing them...KR had promise and they gave up fast....EC has CC graphics scaled up with different character and monster models so it looks awfulPerhaps they're finally going to release a high resolution 2D client that is a worthy replacement of the current one, instead of wasting god knows how much of our money and development time on 3 failed "enhanced" clients that never really came close to being an acceptable replacement.
A game celebrating 23 years, priced at $14 a month, still has a client that looks mostly the same as it did when it first came out.

Oh yes! I played them all starting off on my atari 800xl to commodore 64 to amiga till now was there best times! Ultima IV my all time favorite...One of the best things about playing the ultima series growing up was when the new adventure came out it was always cutting edge. It was part of the draw and reputation. Just like the launch of UO.........
Now keep in mind. Minecraft is cutting edge making a ton of $$$.
I'm convinced we could get a client with the graphical fidelity of, say, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, that runs on PCs from a decade ago, and most of the players would still complain endlessly about it because it's not the same **** they've looked at for 20 years.CC users will never accept any other client and I don't blame them if they like it.... personally I don't like the CC and where they are failing is starting new clients and giving up finishing them...KR had promise and they gave up fast....EC has CC graphics scaled up with different character and monster models so it looks awful

We exist to complain.
No New fiction will lead into a new client. I assume we will get a new Expansion. Maybe Portals to the moons. A new Expansion has to be bought and gives money.
Because there Was a time frame where ToL where added for free to active subs.I don't know about the rest of you all but I never paid for ToL... not a penny.
