[UO Herald] Magincia Plot Guidelines

If you don't want Magincia dead this time next year, you need to have a reason for people to set up shop there. Having no vendor fees is going to attract the serious sellers. The guys selling chairs and green thorns couldn't care less what their vendors are charging them.

I think they really need to add something unique about Magincia. Tract housing isn't it.

Unless a gold seller buys up 50% of the tickets then that player has 50% chance.
See if this makes sense - it's not really 'of the tickets' - it's of the Total amount of tickets sold.
The odds change depending on how much players do - making it Player Driven, just as they said. tada

and yes, I would like vendor count might be limited too, but don't count on it - they'd have to make special rules Just for these few houses, not happening.
Normally, things always cost more 'in-town' - I think vendor fees should be in proportion to the distance from town - to be realistic, I doubt that will ever happen either.

Yes I am talking about the total amount of tickets sold. So if a gold seller/reseller that has an endless supply of gold could possibly get that 50% chance on some shards. It's still cheaper in the end for a smart gold seller/resellers to wait it out on most shards and let the players bid on them and resell them.

I still say they should of did a quest for the chance of Magincia housing like they did for the SA housing in the abyss. That would be more player driven in my book.

To be perfectly honest I am extremely attracted to the idea of actually living in Magincia...

*snip*
Yes, but you're a special kind of player, the one the Devs should have been listening too, one with a heart bigger than a mountain and an interest in serious lore and role play. The chances of you winning a plot in a lottery and being able to apply your talents there are quite low though... unless the Devs have also got the current player base population and attitude wrong too, and nobody bothers to pursue the plots. I can't help but wonder if the previous experiment with the Abyss housing has thrown them; I know on Europa the 2 winners were decent players who put public house teleporters in for everyone to use to access the Abyss, and then linked them to Zento and elsewhere. I really can't see that happening for an entire city of random Joes though...

I'd LOVE if goldsellers dumped a ton of gold into this, that's the point, goldsink. The more people waste money on these tickets, the less gold in the economy. If more people dump stupidly obscene amounts it *would* help things. If they don't, then this did no good.

Looking at this thread, and also this other one, makes me question the existence of "the players" as an entity that is coherent enough to be listened to.

Let's take the "New Magincia is New Luna" issue. We have some who think NM is NL, and that's good. Some who think it's not New Luna and that's bad. Some who think it's not New Luna and that's good. Some who think it is New Luna and that's bad. In the other thread we have people who say that Magincia should revert to exactly the way it was, some who say no one wants that.

There have been examples where the players have been more monolithic and have still been ignored, don't get me wrong. Every once in awhile they nerf something and the near-universal reaction is "what? That didn't need to be nerfed. Who asked for that?" Someone will usually come out in support eventually. But it'll take awhile.

An example from the current team, excellent but indirect, was when Cal didn't know what a Sampire was. That could only happen to someone who neither played all that much nor read the boards.

Another example from the current team was that time during a town hall when they mistook a question about a vendor database as a question about a WoW-style auction system. Sure, people have asked for such a system, but the question they were asking was clearly not about it. They in that instance didn't really listen, heard what they wanted to hear.

An example from a previous team was the proposal to nerf Arch Cure, which would basically mean taking it back to how it was before it had deliberately been beefed up a few years prior. After that proposal a friend who is a great PvPer ICQed me saying "it is obvious that the devs don't PvP." And I replied, "forget PvP, they don't do Peerlesses." (Again this was years ago, I cite it to illustrate that this issue isn't new.)

So.....Sorry for the tangent. I went off on it to illustrate that I do not question that such things happen and have happened with this team, and prior teams.

I just do not think this is such an instance.

I think if they asked 10 players what New Magincia should be like, they would get 9 different answers, and one of them would surely be just what they are going to do.

My preference? No. But oh well.

That's actually one of the good things about UO.

Of course it's also one of the bad things about UO :stir:

I do think it is telling that so many people here are concerned about it turning into New Luna. I know Stratics represents a small number of players, most of whom are long-time players, and maybe most players don't care either way, but a lot of people here are concerned.

New Magincia is going to be shaped one way or the other by the power gamers/Luna crowd/cross-sharders. Whether they dump a lot into it up front or buy it from others a few days after the lottery, it's going to be shaped by these players. Technically that falls into "player-driven" I suppose, but it definitely shoves Ultima lore to the side.

So? At least the Devs would have gotten off their butts and talked to their player base for once. Even if they got 10 different opinions, or 100, they would at least be pretending to care.

Who knows, they might actually use one or more of the ideas the received. God forbid they acknowledge that their original proposal isn't perfect and that they are receptive to new ideas.

However, putting out a plan that meets with mixed-to-negative reviews and then remaining silent on the issue (i.e. not opening a dialogue) doesn't give much hope to future collaboration.

It is the pure chance of cross shard junk account grubbing will spoil the New Mag growth. There will be a long greed timer before this new housing area settles into whatever it will become. Then there is the Luna prices being out of reach for new or returning places. Make NewMag with the easy button NPCs like Luna, but geared to new/returning players, vendors are capped at 100k for pricing items. And if the account that won the lotto places the plot, give them equal lockdowns as a keep as long as that account owns the plot.

FIX. Build the city and have the NPCs guys at each plot. Say "Spawn" to the NPC and a BR Golum spawns locked in house lot area. Lotto ticket from kill that is dropped on NPC for your shot at the RNG WIN.

Northern lots work like bone demon spawn and can only "Spawn" Once per account once the ticket is dropped in pack. Golum takes damage from anyone but only the spawner gets ticket and golum vannishes in 15 minutes if not killed. Northern plot NPCs carry the Player's name while golum spawned (lets you know if your going to help a naked junk account so just let the timer burn out and an hour cool down for respawn) Any northern plot NPC will take northern ticket for that lots lotto.

Southern lot NPC works the same as above. Southern spawned BR Golum have the ticket as loot corpse chance for those with looting chance. Any Southern NPC will take the southern ticket for chance lotto for that lot.

Why make this another cross shard gold miser farse. I have put in some insane time playing UO. AS an example those that could drop an easy 150mil on the BritBarge really need to be rewarded more by unique housing area . I have no BritBarge. Guess I should of done the Tangle Grind type play instead of honestly enjoying all the game has to offer. Just think the lots should have an event related way to earn a chance. Not be tied into rewarding script gathering, turn-in item sales and any other darkside ill gotten gold players. I understand the need for some gold sink, but if it remains as gold related lotto, then make the NewMag city centerpiece a pillar of salt that works like the moongate. Add the killing lotto ticket style and still have the gold option at 1,000,000 gp tickets for southern lots only.

The ideal above about vednor charges being related to how close you are to a town is golden. Could see the lands North Snake Pass being a palyer vendor spot or the housing between Luna and Umbra.

I must say that I am somewhat disappointed in the "New Magincia Development Plan".

1. Blue Crystals? It wasn't that long ago that we were told these would be used in teh Magincia rebuild. Just another "lie" from the dev team I suppose, but it has been mentioned several times in several threads as reminders, and it seems no attention was paid. I guess this is not that surprising given how much "input" seems to be taken to heart by the dev team...

2. I was hoping for a bit more of a "challenge" in the rebuild. Perhaps different resources in different amounts contributed for different shops/building/features. Perhaps some rewards for donating certain amounts of "stuff", couldbe tied into the Spring Cleaning event, and even go so far as letting people vote on the town layout. (not sure if this would cause pronblems with different layouts on different shards, but that would also be cool).

3. Boring. Pay gold, get ticket, win/lose. Seems fun along the ;ines of paying to go to Great Adventure to stand in the lines, never actually getting on a ride.
