ea . this is quite unacceptable . as a paying customer i refuse to go into my system ans start changing registries or whatever . i dont know enough about programing to do this confidently , NOR SHOULD I . if this is your way of forcing us to use the new client , then youl've just lost a 14 year customer.

i dont like your new client . i want my old client with uoassist.

fix it or im done

EA don't require you to go into your registry. Their client works perfectly well without needing to do that.

With a little patience I'm reasonably sure that Tugsoft's program will also work without your needing to go into your registry too.

The new patcher does a checksum on the files - I can think of several reasons that might be a positive step. I won't list them, because I'm only guessing.

The new patcher also means that if you need to re-install at any time, on a new pc for example, you won't have to download and then wait for 12 months of patches to install one at a time. One download and all done.

There have been some teething problems, but they're getting sorted.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit on a 64 Bit Machine. I am running UOA. When I open UOA it goes to the new patch window just like UO.com says it should. Then it goes for about 2 1/2 minutes to determine that yes, in fact I have the correct patch. And yes, it checks for about 2 1/2 minutes every time I ope UOA.

When I open the client by itself, no UOA, it takes about 6 seconds to determine that I have the proper patch, but I cannot use UOA that way. Hope that helps.

Thinking on that same line, if a file does '"change" they can simply get it fixed, as they would be locked out before - and someone could play unpatched by simply running client.exe w/o the crc check? I hope ea added more than that.

Hi, I am running on XP, UOA updated and then shows the Bioware patch screen 390/390

After its completed, I click Play, then only game launches and UOASSIST doesnt. Tried 10 times, still the same result..

First, UOAM lost the Fel and Tram facet, now its UOA.

Next maybe it will be the client itself? LOL

Run UOAssist via your start menu UOAssist (Force Update Check) option.

On the page that appears, bottom right, click Settings.

In the settings page, make sure that the "Load UOAssist using" radio button, centre top of the window, is set to Method 1 (old - improved).

Try that, it should work.

I got the patch for UOA but now UOA doesn't run at all anymore. I'm starting it as administrator but once the dos box pops up my effect in win7 is gone and so is the UOA window.
I cannot get mine to work either. UOA is not even showing when I get into game.

On 64-bit Windows you have to change the registry as shown in post 47 of my workaround thread here.

Nope, tried it on mine and the wife's machines. Does the same thing as others have described. UOA opens on update screen, click OK, Patcher starts and does it's thing, client starts, but no UOA.

Both machines are running XP @ 32 bit.

Remind me how to check whether it's 32 or 64 bit?

Sorry it's been awhile and although I believe we're on 32 bit, I could be wrong.

The chances of your Windows XP being 64-bit are very low. Only the truly brave and insane ever ran Windows XP 64-bit.

But Microsoft's website explain how to find out here.

Odd.

I'm on Win 7 x64, and after today's UOA update, the checksum flies by, and I'm good.

UO Classic Client pops up, and so does UOA. UOA no longer pops up while it's still trying to patch (or checking its version for the 390/390).

So I'm good here. Just a note, I ~was~ previously on Win XP 64 bit. =]

And the first thing I always do on a new install is turn UAC completely off.

I do have guildmates with the issue y'all are describing above though, and I'd hate to have them mess with their registry...Just yesterday one of them asked me if Foxtab Video Converter would convert a WinRAR file into the mp3's he thought he downloaded.

Speechless.

Fascinating. The only two players who've reported no problems in 64-bit Windows have both disabled UAC completely.

Wow maybe this is why I didn't have a problem on my new desktop. I, too, have UAC disabled on my windows 7 64-bit system.
I had trouble on my laptop which runs Vista 64 (and has UAC enabled), but changing "uopatch.exe" in the registry to "client.exe" fixed that for me.

I just did that and it worked. Goes straight from the UOA Update screen to the Login screen with UOA running perfectly. I'm no computer whiz, but if I had to guess, something between the UOA updater and the UOPatch is causing UOA to close.

Yeah Windows XP.

The Registry line said something Patch before. Now it looks like this. Essentially skips the Patch and goes straight to the Client. Of course this will cause a problem in the future, but at least I feel like the problem has been bandaided for today :/

Just change the PatchExePath line from "UOPatch.exe" to "client.exe"
Or if you are the only user of your computer and don't mind.... disable user account control by removing the password required to log onto your account. (if you have only one account on your computer)

No problem, it's Flutter who told us :)

Did this on both machines here and it allows UOA to run on both.

Hopefully though someone smarter than me can figure out a permanent fix, otherwise next time UO forces a patch, we'll have some more hoops to jump through in order to play this dumb game ;)

If the patch thing still comes up, you've not changed the UOPatch.exe to Client.exe in the right place! Once you've done the "Flutter" fix, UOAssist never even tries to run the patcher.

Galen,

The UOAssist update screen only shows once a day unless you change the settings from the default or run it with the Force Update Check - you'll find that shortcut in your start menu, UOAssist.
Thank you.

Flash forward 2 months from now when UO's next patch comes out.

Floods of posts saying "I can't get the latest patch for UO to work properly. Fix it now or I'm going to threaten to quit for the 50th time".

Not sure if this helps but, my work computer is vista 32 bit (wrong in previuos post) downloaded the patch this am and all day I kept trying to get it to work. Off and on I logged in to test it, did some uninstalling tried some of the methods posted and it still does not work.

My home systems, 1 a Win7 64 bit & a Vista 64 bit, ran as admin let the patches download and they both work fine.

Maybe it was because I was being inpatient at work and mixed up something with UOA?????

Guess I should not be playing at work anyway.

I'm one of the few that didn't have problems. I have UAC disabled.

I think UAC is blocking a registry change made by the UOAssist patch, the very same one everyone is manually changing. Those entries do not exist for me.

Instead of ...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Origin Worlds Online\Ultima Online\1.0

...followed by the entries you guys are seeing.

I have....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Origin Worlds Online

All that is there is the following:
(default)
HarvestStageNew
LastHarvestTIme
UniqueInstanceId

There are no values set for any entry.

It looks like the patching process is supposed to clear all of the entries that everyone is seeing, but UAC is somehow preventing that from happening. Again, I suspect it is simply a matter of giving the proper permissions to all of the .exe files (so that they have permission to clear out these entries).

So, either turning off UAC or giving full Admin permissions to every .exe involved should fix Win7 users problems. But that doesn't address the issue of what to do if those entries are still there, as I don't see them on my machine. Perhaps just simply attempting to patch normally will work. Can't test it myself.

Good Luck!

EDIT: For those of you that do not know, UAC is specifically designed to prevent one application from altering another, including registry entries. It appears that either UOAssist did exactly that--attempted to modify the registry for UO--and UAC prevented it from happening, or, a change in one of the UO executables (probably a temporary change to facilitate installing the new Patcher) led to UAC preventing it from clearing those entries when it shouldn't have. In that case, the UO devs should have anticipated this and gave their applications permission to properly clear the old/temporary entries. Maybe that first error in the DOS window is actually a result of just that--the new application didn't have permission to alter the old ones. Whew! That was a mouthful. I'll shut up now.

Doesn't explain why those of us on XP are having the same problem.

Far as I know XP doesn't have UAC?

No, it does not. I wasn't addressing XP issues, I was referring specifically to Win 7.

You are correct, XP does not have UAC (nor does it allow you to set permissions the way Vista/Win7 do).

As far as XP goes, I think people are having issues for multiple reasons--from simply not being patient and interrupting the patch process (breaking it), to making registry changes before an official fix was in, or possibly even having their patch download corrupted by a power outage (at least one person mentioned that).

It's hard to say at this point. I do know that my XP machine didn't have any issues either.

C'mon man, everything you mentioned there puts the blame on us, the paying users. I know that nothing I did caused this problem!!!

The blame for this falls squarely on the shoulders of the programmers and testers of this change or the lack of communication between EA and Tugsoft.

The only thing I did different is I clicked on my little UOA icon, like I have for the past 13 years, and let the UOA and UO patchers run their course.

Don't be a smart ass and continue to blame the customer for the supplier's errors.

Well UOA worked when I left this afternoon after the initial 2 patches & now when I come into my ofc tonight & try to play a little, after the last UOA patch update UOA won't start up & play now. Damned if ya do & damned if ya don't. Running OC XP w/SP3.
Before the last patch it was fine.
Sorry EA but you really borked this one up bad for everybody, poor initial deployment & testing!

BTW We should all give SPA a big hand for all he's done for everyone here to get them up & running, without his help many would not be playing as quickly as they were. (Mines just the stubborn one I guess & refuses to work, just my luck :()
