Tragedy at Toadhall

3-4 dozen plus filled commodities have vanished. The box is empty.

While I will post a bug report tomorrow. I know what the outcome will be...

They won't replace them.

I am considering quitting. This "Won't replace items" will cost them multiple accounts.

Be sure to check the securities settings of the box, friend list to the house, etc. If others can access it then it could just as likely be someone else looting it.

I find it highly unlikely that this is a bug. More than likely it'll be someone who's taken them. From what I can imagine the recent changes wouldnt have altered anything to do with the CDB code. Like Viper said, check your security settings.

As for quitting over a couple dozen deeds going missing... come on, people have lost far more than that in the past (Me included) and have continued on taking it as a lession learnt. As for replacing them, considering that its most likely someone taking them why should the Devs? The person who took it should replace it!

Well it is just my hubby and I who use the house. So these items were not looted. Add to the missing list a Quiver of Infinity, and other good weapons and armor, a chest full of kegs...

This not a couple of dozen deeds--there were 18 filled iron commodity deeds, 6-8 filled deeds of every mage reg, scroll deeds, bottle deeds, dull copper, shadow, bronze, valorte, verite, wood, heartwood...

Need I say more

Could either of your accounts have been hacked? I would presume the account without the house.

Either that or you or your hubby has moved them and have forgotten or something? Items randomly disappearing dosnt sound like a bug if its isolated to just one house. I would suspect something forgotten or foul play. But check your security settings anyway!

I have checked the security settings. They have been unchanged in years. My husband and my self. Since the day the house was placed it was private. The stuff was there before the account migration. It is not there now.

Was the CDB empty when you found the items missing or where other items still present. Also where were the other items that have gone missing?

Also when did you last touch/move/secure/lockdown or even enter custom mode?

The CBD was empty. The chest next to it--which was full was also empty. A chest inside the chest above the second chest is also gone. There are also things missing from the chest above the CDB. A Quiver of Infinity possiblly, second string armor, potion kegs,

The crystallized essences are missing from the house in front of it. That chest has been in place for about a year.

Before Account Migration. Three of the chests involved (not the CDB) in Toadhall have been in the same position since the house was places over 10 years ago.

The houses have never been in custom mode, they are large towers.

There is no telling what has happened. Especially with the small team we have now, and the stuff they are pushing out the door.
Wouldn't be the first time something has gone haywire that isnt connected to what a patch was bringing in.

Anyone remember the bug introduced where you could loot the runes out of locked down runebooks in the llibraries?

Anyone remember the bug where stuff disappeared randomly from houses and was eventually settled that it was gypsies?

Anyone remember the bug where you could stand on the north side of a house, turn transparency on full, and the chests on the north wall would then be treated by the system as tho they were on the ground, and anyone could loot em?

We have this crappy lockddown thing goin on now, where ya have to unlock a whole chest to get one item out cause there was a bug that was letting peeps use free lockdowns with em. Not much of a problem you say? Try it with books or whatever, you have to go back in and reset permissions on every cotton picking item. We asked for cascading permisions, and got well, what we have now which isnt diff from what it was before.

And let us not forget Haven, a nice town for noobs to start in, interesting landscape, and a beautiful bridge that I atttended two weddings on. Destroyed to fix a bug, that no one could fix otherwise, and probably has no idea when it wasw introduced.

Rubble and Magincia, this year...need I say more about this?

This is a co-player of mine. Solid player with years experience. No one can say absolutely what happened, and if thewhole chests were missing it could chalk up to being left unsecured. So before you say "no way" "impossible" or "yeah right" think back on game history...

Sorry it happened to ya nynyve, if I can help let me know.

Well the essences have reappeared. The other boxes are still empty.

Toad Hall was the heart of our houses. The missing stuff represented the core foundation of our UO existence--never having to buy a reg or mine for resources, no more hard labor chopping wood, visiting vendors for scrolls, scrounging for empty bottles in front of the bank.

Were we using low reg suits. Of course--that's not the point. The mental and emotional security these items represented has vanished. We didn't have to count our resources, or worry about running out of basic necessities. We had achieved security. We had the freedom to experiment and try new things--because of these resources. Now it's gone.

ok now this is gonna sound strange.. but check a few things...

Firstly if you hover over the CDB does it say if theres anything in it (Item count and weight) same for the other chests (and if you have other items in there.. take them out and recount. they might have just 'turned invisible' sounds daft, but its happened before... I believe you have to get a GM to fetch them out.

Secondly, release the chests and put them in your pack. Log out and then log back in. You never know they might reappear?

I'm not trying to offend here, but basically you are saying that you found a way to NOT play the game and you are angry that it's not there anymore?

I would think you would be jumping for joy at the opportunity to actually get back out there and use your characters. The economy on almost all the shards is a wreck right now, and the best thing in the world is for stuff to be removed from the game!

Sorry for your loss, but I don't see that this is a bad thing.... Security breeds sloth, which moves to boredom and then to quitting.... I'd much prefer you stayed.

Drop me a line, I'll do some logging for you!

I lost almost a million iron ingots, close to half a million of each mage reg, over 100K cloth, 300k boards, 100k blank scrolls 60k bottles, plus more stuff that took ten years to acquire. The value is many millions in gold. The hours spent were for nothing.

No I am not looking forward to doing this over.

I use my characters. I just don't use them for what I consider to be dull repetitive tasks. Plus I do have to work for a living so what I can do in game is limited.

Well, once again I want to reiterate that I am really sorry that your stuff is lost. I know what it's like to work for what you have and I truely do hope that someone at EA can help you.

That being said, I was being honest in my assesment that this may be a good thing and I was also being honest when I said I would be happy to help you get some new materials. I have to work as well, but I'd be more than willing to use some of my free hours to help get you some new crafting mats. Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do to help.

Dude, it's just a game man.......I lost a ton of tailor bod books once, my fault, but still......I've gotten taken for some high end stuff, that shoulda been on my corpse, only to have my corpse gone in like 3 minutes, I handled it........"it" happens.......but to quit?? That's kids stuff.

Like Bruce Willis said in that military flick set in Africa......time to cowboy the *&%# up.

So you want to tell me how to run the archer I have been working towards without the arrows? I planned the archer character for two years--prepping patiently, stockpiling arrows, getting bows etc. Now two years worth of arrows are gone. The wood and feathers I need to make more arrows are gone. My alchie is without bottles and potion regs. She no longer has the means to make healing pots and all those other convenient potions for my other characters. Now I can't even make pots to water my plants. My husband's scribe is screwed and his second string armor is gone. Recipe scrolls have vanished.

Well at least Bruce Willis had ammo. I am literally without ammo.

How can I run my blacksmith, tinker, carpenter, and tailor without resources like wood, metal, cloth, and leather?

In the past, through another EA glitch, we lost a complete set of Tokuno Pigments.

I am sick of EA's unwillingness to take responsibilities for their mistakes. They can replace lost items--they just refuse to do so. They would rather punish the innocent and drive away customers then take the time and trouble to fix a mistake. Look at the Magincia rubble fiasco. It is a disgrace that it has not been fixed.

I'll help with the feathers and the wood. Send me a PM and I'll work on it tonight on your shard. We can whip up several thousand arrows in no time! For some reason, I never got into the mining and blacksmithing, but I would be willing to do some mining too!

It sucks but all is not lost! Just missing!

*dresses up as nynyve and even steals her voice momentarily*

*clears throat*

Thank you Ned! I really appreciate your offer to help me gather resources. With such kindness, how can I dare continue to think of quitting UO. Sure there are some villains out there... and yes, lots of bugs to plague my strongholds... but surely all is not lost.

*returns to his former persona*

From the sound of things you were set for life. While it sucks huge to have that snatched away in the blink of an eye, it is not the end. You have your characters, house, and bank accounts? That is more than I can say for plenty of returning veterans grinding it out on (young) toons attempting to just keep their head above water. You're putting way too much thought into these things. Thinking that to make an archer you need 100k of arrows and bolts and 6 suits of top of the line armor. Hop on a crafter for an hour and hammer out some ammo and suit up with what you have. It'll work if you force it to, I promise!

Best of luck

here's an example:
http://www.aedes.us/i11/ApKNC.jpg

west wall, bottom floor, ants are Outside (i know because I lured them there) but can take/give damage, and can be looted Thru that wall or from the outside.

forgot to grab a pix, but North wall, 2nd Floor (not in SA) - killed a golem, looted it from Outside the structure
what they 'fixed' some time back was only affecting corners I believe.
just thought I'd show it's possible in the middle of the wall too

Thanks! I look at it this way:

1 - I was kind of jerky to you about it, so I sort of deserve it! ;)
2 - Most of it was stuff I was collecting for alts, so it doesn't affect my primary directly.
3 - It gives me an excuse to get out there and hunt a bit more.
4 - It's just a way of reinforcing my need to keep the good stuff in the bank!

This evening I shall be hunting the wilds north of Britain looking for Ogres and Ettins! Woe betide the Troll who crosses my path! Harpys beware!
