Hello everyone.I was thinking about traking, and got a couple of ideas that would make it (in my opinion) an excellent skill.

Imagine, that all creatures moving leave footprints, that can be discovered with tracking skill. Then, the ranger just follows the track and finds their target.
The chance to find someon`s footprints and follow the track would depend on the the Tracking skill, the terrain, and the age of the footprints.

For example, it would be very easy to track someone on snow, sand or grass, but more difficult in dungeons, where the ground is firm.
It would be easier to pick fresh tracks than tracks left by someone twenty minutes ago.

That would make Tracking skill at last useful for FINDING someone, not just spotting some hiders hidden a few meters away from you.

Why do people put things like IMPORTANT!! in the thread title? I know why , its to draw attention to it when in reality it is not IMPORTANT!! its more like IDEA!. They think that if a dev sees Tracking! Important! they might think its a bug and pop in only to find the best darn idea ever!

*sigh*

Babble, I`d think that the million houses with the billions items inside would cause more trouble than those tracks.

Arcus, so what`s exactly your problem? Can`t stand people who think their idea is important? The door is over there.

i have read a few of your posts , ie 77 in less than a month, is it your intention to create something then flame flame those that do not agree with you or think you are amazing?

I cannot see you lasting very long here with this attitude you bring

or is it that you created this acct purely to offend others

you seem VERY opinionated for someone who only just created an acct?

Banned previously perhaps, who knows?

Very odd

Of itself it's a nice idea, but I don't think the world map as it currently exists is up to the job. Apart from sand letting you mine on it, mountains for digging ores, and water for fishing in, I can't recall any type of terrain that has specific 'attributes, on the basic map, and none that really support temporary and conditional changes that tracking would need (after all, unless the tracks 'fade away' fairly rapidly you'd soon end up with a total mess unuseable by the skill) and I'm not sure the Devs are keen on redesigning the world so much as would be needed to make this work sensibly.

Might be more potential to let tracking be modified by, say, the weight of targets you are trying to track since bigger things or people wearing a lot of metal armour should mean deeper footprints or other signs of passing (somewhat messed up by all armour being the same defensive value so few outside RP wears metal armour anyway), or opposing the skill checks for their dexterity (e.g they moved more lightly) or maybe the target's tracking skill to emulate covering your tracks, but all seem a fairly complex way to add benefits to the skill.

Tracking needs some work, as do a few other skills that really don't have significant applications in play, but I don't think this idea is going to be possible, sorry....

Edit - Forgot the 'soil' that lets you fill plant pots is a 'useable' terrain type too...

Tracking could lead to some rare animals or let you find some 'treasure holes'?

If you track you have a small chance of disturbing a 'rare' creature which then can be hubted or tamed.
Or it could lead to some spot where some treasure has been buries, or where some lichlord decides you stepped on his grave :p

More carebearish stuff, that has no logic in itself nor any links to reality whatsoever.

I say, let`s keep it more UOish, thi is not Lineage 2 or SomeOtherChineseGameWithTalkingFairyPandas.

There shouldnt be any "I hit the skill macro until I reach gm, then I go to tram, spam hit skill button and then recieve a cookie/pink cu-sidhe/a pure white dragon that breathes llava/any other BS that belongs in a chinese MMO, not Ultima Online.
