I had that happen back in the day on Chesapeake shard. It sucked. And as you said, not even as much as losing tons of stuffs, when you would have probably gladly given someone anyone whom you friended whatever they needed or even wanted. What hurt more I guess is broken TRUST. Once that is shot to hell, with whomever it may have been, that trust is never going to be restored regarding said ...idiotic person.
At that time mine was a thriving vendor home, chests had to be set to Friends to enable folks whom also vendored outta my vendorhome to have chests to store stuffs and supplies so that they too could go into their our chests and make stuffs to restock and so long as we all together like a guild sorta would do resupply ourselves for our own self and everyone else it all went FINE. None of the many whom I had in there would ever have dreamed to rip us ALL of but one did. It took a while to find *the* one that did it, only 1-2 were even maybe remotely suspect, if that simply cuz for 2+ yrs. plus none off the others in there, ever did it at all, so the newer 2 in the place, were more suspect. In the end it was one of the newer friended to the home ones that did it all.
Word got out though that EVERYTHING and I do mean everything was stolen taken, no doubt when the rest of us were sleeping in rl and thus logged out we wake up log on and fine every chest empty of everything, that we shared as a buncha friends, vendoring out of my vendor house. Myriads of folks on chessie began dropping off stuff galore to restock us all. They did not have to do that but they did and it was like some endless throng of folks bringing everything from fish steaks by the tons to wool and hides and more. It touched our hearts and minds for every one single self serving thiefing house looting trust breaking dickhead out there, you can be sure that there are 999999% of the mass of humanity that just are not into being a self-serving jackarse, stealing off trusted friends or trusted guild mates guild supplies or vendor homes for us ALL to share and work out of and play this game from.
While I never had a home looted HERE, once burned ya learn more techniques, but we did have NEW guild house ripped off here, and many here came full of supplies when that happened. I remember being put in charge of NEW guild house chests, KSS guild house chests, MYTH vendor home and beyond here, and for any time any of those home got ripped off, more came and helped restock. TRUST is earned folks whom value it live by it few others never think twice about trust cuz it is meaningless to them. In the end they do reap what they sew, no one trusts them for diddly ever again once they cross that line.
So while you are feeling that yucky feeling broken trust more than losing in game stuff, remember this, for every one self absorbed, thieving trust breaking no conscience dickhead out there of 100 far more honest or decent persons, in this game on any shard, that would rip off their own friends break trust when ya would about give them whatever they need or ask for, and everyone else, chances are good there are 99 whom may to step up to the plate and act decent
While the game permits us to play thieves and to dry loot corpses, which is legal to do, crossing lines like ripping of friends homes or guild houses entirely or scamming someone out of their UO acct. does I think cross the line.
