Time to rexamine enhancing?

With the advent of Imbuing the magic item field has changed, as such I think its time we give enhancement success rates another look.

Right now, wood is almost 100% success rate (from my experience) while leather and iron are like 25% or less (depending on the item), and this sort of thing just is counter productive to the whole imbuing process if you ask me.

If I want to make LRC suits for my customers, plain leather is really not going to cut it for anything but training, and as to my willingness to lose probably 8-16 items to enhancement failure AFTER imbuing, when trying to make a 6 piece suit... it just begins to enter the realm of counter productivity as I waste resources. And that ignores the time wasted, and personal frustration.

At this juncture I see no good reason why all enhancement rates shouldn't be very high like wood. I mean we can now tailor items to our taste, so I don't see why its an issue at all, since I think the original idea was that not many people would have uber powered items, which showed a shocking lack of foresight, as we all know, because we all have them.

Oh, and give metal enhancement bonuses on par with wood as well.

Thoughts?

There needs some tweaking. The problem being it can't be easy to make a bunch of stuff with imbuing and then enhance it for desired extras. There is a fine line there but if you make wood armor you can enhance it most of the time. It needs some number crunching and made slightly more doable.

Why not? For the most part its only resists. Something armor must have for it to be useful. Imbuing stuff breaks fast, and on siege of course will be lost willy nilly, so I don't see why there should be a big chance of failure.

I personally think that the materials should be the finishing touch on item customization.

They can have it waste how ever many resources needed to enhance on failure, if there was only a say 10% chance it would break. I just think its silly when armor HAS to have decent resists that you have to burn through a bag full of expensive imbued items to get the desired piece.

Repost: If you took half the durability away on each try and not be able to bring it back up on imbued,,, then there could be a compromise.

id say maybe have a 100% success chance at enhancing lower level stuff, but if the item weight is too high, maybe 350? it just says this item cannot be enhanced.. and not break it..

that way if you want to take a plain leather item, add say lrc to it and enhance it, you wont get a super piece.. at most youd get a normal gm crafted speical item property piece with lrc or whatever you added to it.. just be carefull not to go above 350..

this keeps you from adding all 5 mods to an item and enhancing it.

ps. the success on adding 10 ssi to a 20+ bow is about 10% :(
