Epicone is still at work, but I'm hooked on this thread now. It's so funny!
The tip about the computer room is great- works that way in our house and there is a huge set of windows in the room even!
Quick question: Epicone suggested that I create a librarian sort of character. Where do I buy books and how would I set up a 'library' if I don't own a building? I'm too stubborn to ask Ep for help, so any ideas would be great! Or better yet, if anyone has any thoughts for other character ideas... I have a pretty raw and undefined character yet with a little taming and a wee bit of musical ability. I would love to hear your thoughts as to which profession is the most engaging. I'm not much of a gamer, but I am trying hard for Ep! So factor in the boredom quotient when offering up suggestions.

A librarian? *blinks* I guess you could be a Scribe, there's an Inscription skill. Erm, never met anyone who wanted to log on and arrange books for amusement, sorry. Usually they all want to slay dragons.
I don't know how many accounts you guys have, but if you each have your own you could work on placing a house and starting a Rune Library.. That could be a fun thing to do, and a nice way to meet people and provide something for the community. Work up your Inscription skill until you can make Runebooks, and then you can explore and mark runes to different places, filling your Runebooks up with Runes to exotic lands. You would also need Magery to mark the runes.

just how many rune library's do you think UO needs ?
not sure how other shards go but atlantic has had and still has one of the biggest and best library's there is... Goodman's Rune Library
that one single library has been the home to many many many many people and has served the comunity very well.
on a side note... i persoanlly think the UO society has become very lazy, always recalling/sacred journey/gateing here and there, given the oprotunity i personally perfer walking around the lands instead of 'bouncing' around, unless i am in a hurry to come to someones aid of course.

Hi all, just got back from work...
Ok, lemme try to explain what my wife was thinking (I think

We were going to buy the 9th edition, but the promotion ended, so we're looking at a few other options to get an account here as well.
As for the librarian idea, my wife loves books. She also has the inspiration and skill to write them. Because of this, I thought up the idea of her owning a library. We would buy a plot for her, would do a design to her liking, then let her write away! Books could also be donated to the library and (if good enough) be put on the shelves for everyone to see.
For her template, we/I thought:
Taming
Lore
Vet
Music
Peace
Magery
Inscription
She loves horses, hence Taming
Music because she is a passive killer
Magery because it's the most useful skill
Inscription to be a librarian

I'd say we have a good deal more fun than when partying with people who think combat is the main or only part of an MMO. There are plently of MMOs out there where there is nothing else to do but fight critters. UO is fun because you can (in addition to slaying dragons) enjoyably roleplay a character without ever fighting a single mongbat.

Nah, Trammel is not a duplicate of Felluca. It's an improvement. Same lands without the bother of trash talking gankers. Once an improvement is implemented to a product, the older, lesser product should be discarded. Just like when records were replaced by CDs. (Smaller, cheaper, better quality sound, but there were always people who refused to move on, and whined about how much better the records were

Trammel and Felucca are both great facets which allow players to experience life in UO as they deem fit. It doesn't matter what anybody thinks about it, they both exist and will continue to exist indefinitely, so quit arguing about which one is better and deal with it.
It would be nice to see crafting overhauled to compete with the new item based UO though.

hey, on the drake vs paragon mongbat, a minor hint go to tc 1 the para counter is cranked and rockin, if you know a strong mongbat spawn, grab a drake and findout, and post your results please.

If you get a cover for your CD rack the CD's won't fall out.

The FuZz reminds me of a story from some of my friends.
They had a cat they'd found as a kitten, and as it matured they decided that it would be a good idea to have it fixed.
They took it in to the vet, only to have the vet come out and tell them that, given the circumstances, they'd only be charged for one "fix". Part-way into the procedure, the vet discovered the feline was a hermaphrodite.
True to his word, he both spayed AND neutered the cat, and only charged them for doing one of them.
