Hello All,
Well its been a busy time for me since my last detail email. I'm leaving Valencia for Madrid tomorrow afternoon. Its nice and hot, its around 30 degrees outside even at 8pm...
After leaving Mykonos, I went to Lesvos (land of the lesbians even if i didn't see any), Lesvos was more greener than the other islands i have been too. It was amazing that you could look over a small stretch of land and you could see Turkey which was just a 30 minute boat ride. I spent 2 weeks with my godson Michael and his family in Mytilini and Eressos which was great as i had't seen them in over 12 years. After leaving Lesvos i made my way from Athens to Roma where i spend a few days taking in the sites such as the Trevi Fountain, Colosseum and the Pantheon. These site were better than i could ever have imagine and i can't wait to get back there in the end of October and visit the Pope.
From Roma i traveled by Busabout to Siena, which is the capital of Tuscany province. Siena is an old medieval city, which dates back to the 1300-1400's. Siena was fantastic with all the medieval architecture and the great wine from around the Tuscany region. After a few days in Siena i made my way by bus to Florence. I've always heard people rave-on how awesome Florence is, but its not until your their that the beautiful and magnificence of the city hits you and beats all expectations. It was like I was having a dream and the architecture the arts was only things you could dream of. I have to say you haven't lived if you have not been to Florence and seen Michelangelo's statue of David, or Botticelli's Birth of Venus or Spring in person... The beauty and scale of these masterpieces can't be justified by looking at books and they are a hundred times better and more jaw-dropping in person.
After my fantastic experience in Florence i made my way to La Spezia. I can say at first i didn't expect much from La Spezia as i had never heard of it before, but it was a diamond in the ruff. By taking a 10 minute train ride from La Spezia to Cinque Terre which is 5 villages spread along 9km of the coastline of Northern Italy. Between the 5 villages there is a 9 km path that you can walk along and take in the scenery. This was what a few friends that i met from Busabout and I decided to do and it was fantastic, but i have to say it was a very hard walk to do in 40+ degrees, so from time to time we had to take a break and had a dip at the beautiful beaches along the coast. I have to say that i was happy to make the stop off in La Spezia as it was a great experience and almost rivals Santorini for its beauty.
After La Spezia i make my way to Nice... And i have to say Nice is nice haha, the beach at Nice was fantastic and i now see why everyone comes to Nice for the great weather and the fantastic beaches. Whilst in Nice, i had the chance to visit the Matisse Museum which was great to see a large collection of his work. From the nicest city in France i made my way up north to Avignon, which is the only completely wall-in city in Europe. Not only that it was for a period of time the capital of the catholic Church as the Popes lived for a hundred years when they were force from Roma (In the 1500 century i think). Avignon was great as i had the chance to visit the Pope Palace there and time to walk around the fortified city.
From Avignon i made my way to Barcelona, Spain. I been told how great Barcelona was, but it doesn't compare until you have seen it in person. I loved visiting the Picasso Museum and the Architecture designed by Gaudi. So far I would love to live in Barcelona, if i had the chance as it beautiful, so many great shops and great culture and history.
Valencia is a good city to be visiting as it has a mixture of new and old architecture. A give me a chance to chill out and see the sights.
So I'm off to madrid tomorrow i hope it as great as Barcelona and Valencia have been. After that i´m off to the Land of the Frog legs la France...
Hope you are all fine,
Jedisith
