So, I haven't played on SOTD much, but I have played enough to know why it's possibly failing.
SOTD was made to test the popularity of the creation of a Classic Shard. The problem is, it's nothing like what a classic shard would be. There's imbuing and ninjitsu and bushido - skills that shouldn't be on a classic shard. The only thing classic about it is the fact it's one landmass and it's all Fellucca.
Glass swords ruin SOTD, period. They aren't fun, not even to use. They're one hit wonders that require no skill, and you never wiff with them.
I'm not a classic shard supporter and probably wouldn't seriously play on a classic shard for many reasons, but I'm totally for the creation of one for the players that would want to play. What I think has happened with this shard is this: I don't think the Devs want to make a classic shard. I feel like SOTD has been set up to fail so they Devs can see "well, we gauged the interest and not enough people played on SOTD so we won't be implementing it."
I think it's really sad, and it's a shoddy way of doing things. Plenty of people have posted about the want to take out glass swords. I stopped playing after two nights of trying to get myself started, only to be killed by idiots running around trying to get high murder counts. I don't care about being stolen from, I don't mind PVP, but what is going on here isn't PVP. It's just flat out irritating and draws people away.
So Devs, before you try to judge the interest of the people toward a classic shard, I ask that you make something like a pre AOS shard and watch how many people start and stay there. SOTD is no way of judging the interest of those wishing to play on a classic shard.
