My home is a bit rural, which usually makes it one of the last to be restored so we still don't have power.
Irma could have been a lot worse if it had held together like they expected. I think at the height of the storm, about 65% of the state was without power all at once - definitely a record. The ENTIRE state was on hurricane watch at once, which is also a record. Traffic is a nightmare because a ton of street lights are still out, roads are blocked or flooded, and evacuees are trying to get home. At some point during the weekend the generator at my store failed so we lost EVERYthing refrigerated or frozen. Until a delivery truck can get thru, the deli and bakery is closed, no perishables, no ice - and yet we are still slammed and I am working 16 hour shifts. Kids are out of school, and there is no electricity to keep them entertained so folks are hot, bored, and tempers are frayed.
In the grand scheme of things tho, this is nothing compared to Texas or Barbuda and all the disasters unfolding this year. It makes me sad to see idiots blowing thru dark streetlights like they don't exist, causing wrecks over gas stations, and cussing out cashiers because there is a shortage of milk. But then I am so gladdened by the outpouring of help and volunteers coming in from all over the country and I try to focus on that instead.
Anyway, sorry for the book but my stressed-out little bubble of reality felt a need to be shared. Now I am off to fight my way thru traffic so I can go to work so folks can get food and pick up Western Union transactions. On a side note, the Florida lotto was not drawn Sunday or Monday night, which is a logistical nightmare from a customer service perspective. Yay. With everything going on, it boggles my mind the things that people start screaming about.
Glad others in the Siege community fared the storm well. See you lot in game eventually!
