Something missing in the new loot revamp

Actually I see the devs thought about almost everything with the new loot system for new characters. But something still missing.

If you start the game as a melee warrior you can go and hit, the skills will grow and you gather equipment.

If you start as an archer you can kill ratmans to get arrows without spend money.

If you start as necromancer you can kill the undead gargoyles at the tomb of the king to get reagents without spend money.

If you start a mage or a mystic there is no monsters that drops enough reagents to keep going without spend money!
And this is the problem.

If you start a new mage character you are forced to buy reagents or collect it from the ground 1 by one. Actually the monsters drops up to 5 per reagent kind that is not even enough to kill it.

So the point is: add some monsters who drops a consistent amount of reagents like for the necro. For necro there are monsters that drops up to 50-70 per kind!

Also spellbooks with properties do not appears on loot and you must inscribe or buy it from players. About that we should get 1-3 mods on loot books and 3-5 to inscribed ones.

I hope you devs could take this in consideration for the love of new mage characters :D

starting as a new player is very difficult in this game.
i think the new loot system should take in consideration the skills of the killer player.
if your a mage the monster should drop mage armor (armor with int, defense and such), mage weapons (spellbooks and such) and reagents.
if your warrior should drop warrior armor (high resist armor with hit chance and stam inc and such), warrior weapons and arrows and bolts.

etc..

i know they can program the system to tell the skills of the attacking player.

I still would like to see minor magical clothing drops. They shouldn't compete with the Crimson Cinture, Tangle, or Conjurer's Garb. Something with 1 or 2 mods with total strength equal to about 40 imbuing intensity total. That would provide a low to middle ground for newer characters. Right now there is almost not alternatives for certain clothing items.

It would also be nice if the new loot included Talismans with unique mods, and dropped elven glasses using the new loot system. I wish I could craft basic glasses to imbue, but it just isn't an option. All of my gargs either have Library reward glasses or Brightsight Lens because I think these look so much better than garg earrings. If glasses dropped as part of the loot system I'd be very pleased.

If you use pets should drop tasty treats and bandages
well bandages are free... Sheep -> Loom -> Cloth -> Bandages

tasty treats are not a must, I've never used one :D

The only things really missing are mage/mystic reagents :p

Any new caster that discovers general chat and can't get an imbuer to whip them up a basic LRC set. Picked the wrong shard.

That's the way of the player who want to reach the top fast... obviously you can also train your char in 2 days without even get out of the town, but this is not the point.

Sometimes I just like to grown up by myself without begging for free items, and this is extremely hard if you want to grow a mage :(

This. LRC is a basic loot drop. Why would they need regs???
Par condicio with necromancers.
Also in the loot there are some LRC pieces and make a full 100% will require to spend time killing, fizzling, with a very low spell damage. In short you waste a lot of reagents.

Interesting...
For me I always started warrior, but I assume if I had to start a mage first I would either have to wrestle or work up warrior skills to fight my way through the muck until i got enough lrc drops, or a nifty mage weapon...

I might do this just for the heck of it...

I recently started making characters on shards I did not have characters. I took the new haven quests to gain skills and went to old haven for training to 50+. Each spectral spellbinder dropped 10 of a reg + gold. The skeletons and zombies dropped gold and occasionally magic items. I collected those magic items and then on another new character unravaled to MR. The leather armor ones with LMC or LRC I equipped.

The bigger problem was not having a full spellbook to progress with training. I bought one in Luna eventually.

It's not a terribly interesting approach and a player fresh to the game probably would not know how to go about it.

Then being out for the from scratch solo effort. Better have a game plan. As an experienced player with knowledge we have a leg to complain on. For a new player that just happened on the game. And like any other game wants no help to give the feeling of victory a sweeter taste. Will learn there is no winning UO. It is like a farm there is always something to do.

Your right on the filling a spellbook. You start a mage, a basic unblessed full spellbook should be in hand at character creation. Look at new players trying to get into the spell weaver skill class. Good thing those damn scrolls stack.

FIX: While on young player status a certain number of reagents can be gotten from an NPC in Haven per hour. Theese reagent are along the lines of quest item and they are on a timer.

After playing the game for a time a player should have a handle on the game mechanics and no longer have reagent shortage. If they do, your doing it WRONG. There is the puzzle or get on chat.

For a new player everything is NEW. Thats the thrill we all seek when we start a new character on an off shard. When you know how to do things and can hit the easy button on chat or with friends help, doing things WRONG doesn't have that NEW feeling.

Here is a neat name for a female character, Xanthippe. Look it up in Webster.

A related problem: There's nothing out there to kill to get crossbow bolts that doesn't drop your karma and ruin your reputation (Meer Captains are it, as far as I know).

Changelings drop bolts (25 arrows and 25 bolts). But they spawn in very annoying places.

Ultima games usually had quests available to find harder spells. It would be nice if all spells had a quest to do to acquire them, but none required a quest to have them.

Some ideas about collecting reagents for a mage In Haven there are spectrals or whatever they are called I bet you could drag a bunch of them together and then cast a bladespirit and collect reagents from them. Also in the cemetarys there are ghouls and spectres that carry reagents and you can cast a blade in there, wipe them out and collect reagents.
Long ago as a young mage, I picked up reagents from the ground.

the amount is tiny compared to the necro reagents... necro reagents reach also stack of 60 per kind, mage reagents does really reach at least 10 per kind? nope...

i still feel that it was a bad choice to make lrc go to 100%.
it should have been capped at 30-40%

we dont have 100% lower ammo cost for archery, why do mages get it..

I think extra regs a loot is a good idea. It's not like it's going to be exploited. So why not make out a little easier on the young players.

Pinco, I came to Europa from Atlantic years ago, and never looked back. The reason? Comradery. Civility. Good will. The residents of Europa do, on the whole, believe in the original Ultima theme of teamwork. When I help a new character (or better yet, a brand new player!) with armor, supplies, gold etc., they are not "begging" from me (unless they actually are "begging" from me, in which case even the game says to just ask). I am happy to help, and it is perfectly in the spirit of the game. Please DO ask for a hand... most of us are more than happy to give it! (btw, if you want to do it more by yourself, I will be happy to start you with some green thorns and green snake plant seeds. The thorns, properly used, will net you a nice bounty of regs, and the seeds, properly tended, will keep you supplied with thorns).

Then if you wish to play that why, do what I did when I started my account. First character fighter(pick you weapon) with tailoring skill to make gold from selling hides and made stuff to the npcs. Then as my fighter got better I started saving every reg off every monster and picking up regs off the ground. By the time I decided to start a mage, (this was way before LRC/LMC suits were even in the game) I had a considerable pile of reagents sitting in my house waiting to be used. It is not hard just time consuming but since I linked it to the growth of another character and their training, I did not mind the time invested...I was having fun.

This is a good approach, but if said player wanted to role play while training their character, this would not feel right. Giving them a couple of ways to get regs would let them stay in character.

Others reason to add more mage/mystic reagents as loot like the necromancer ones is for raising inscription for example, or alchemy...
Simply having a monster like the undead gargoyles that drops 50-60 regs per kind would be great...

I always figured what you kill should have more "intelligent loot.

I hate to say this though... I have a vast variety of characters... From Gargoyle to Human... several elves and such I'd hate to have to switch to some other character just so I can get loot suited to them.

I often hunt things and look at the loot for my other characters. I don't always hunt stuff based on the one doing the killing. Some of my characters have NEVER set foot in a dungeon.

Some of my Tamers have never Tamed anything but Unicorns or Kirins and I never take them hunting.

I've got a few crafters that only craft me things when I want it crafted by some particular name. Otherwise I never use them.

Revamping loot to suit the needs of the one killing it doesn't appeal to me.

However I do agree that logically speaking evil mages and even perhaps liches or Liche Lords SHOULD drop nice spellbooks... Just like you see the ninjitsu and bushido books dropped on enemies using those skills... If a monster uses the skills they should possess the necessary means to cast them.
