So rebuilding of Magencia is a lottery gold sink?

As I take it from listening to the video, the fabled rebuilding of Magencia is splitting the town into south and north plots totaling 20+, the north you "pay" a set fee to get a lottery ticket, one per acct, and the south you can buy an unlimited number of lottery tickets? I am all for gold sinks in the game, but is this what we have all been waiting for for over a year? What in the world does all the "lead up storyline" have to do with this lottery????? SIGHHHHH

only drawback is the 15x15 total size

My understanding was everyone was entered on the north side plots, not needed to pay to be entered, and the south side plots were enter a many times as you like lottery at each plot

Though I'll agree that with the current lack of population on most shards most won't want a tiny plot when they can have a much bigger one.

I'm disappointed that it seems, at this time, that we will have no actual voice or be able to participate in the rebuilding process. Seems that if there were plans along those lines some mention would have been made of them.

Me too DO, me too. I thought that was supposed to be the point. But maybe the resource that needs depleting most at this point is the cash.

During Draconi's tenure I do not believe this was going to be the result... in fact, the defeat or non defeat of the shadow armies was supposed to play a long term role in the final determination of Magincia during its rebuild.

Things change, I suppose. I'm disappointed, but that's that.

Sure looks that way. High Seas saltpeter costing so much, about a million per 100 shots. The humongous new ship for 150 million, and this lottery setup.

Hopefully they don't encourage to many young mere multi-millionaires to give up on playing while they go after the billionaires and even richer players bank balances.

If people really do waste a ton of money on this stupid lotto then they should cut back the amount of lootable gold so its not so easy to stockpile so much.

This is illogical. They need to increase the amount of looted gold not decrease. Don't worry, I will not argue this point as it's seem evident that most people don't really understand it.

Soo....instead of a nice little city back we're going to get a grid of cubes with vendors everywhere? If they're going to do this at least force classic houses only..or require EM approval of the designs. (<subrant>and on that note, maybe actually we could HAVE an EM on siege? We didn't get ANY of the recent events, and when they placed the casket they tossed it in the middle of TB faction base, where half the shard isn't allowed to go. </subrant>)

Well, actually nothing was said about any other portions of the town for the present, except the public garden, and some areas they have fenced off and "have plans for". SO there is no way of knowing if there are quests or npc shops or what happens with the Counsel hall or anything.

Not only that, but "New Magincia" is supposed to be based on Humility and is supposed to be more humble after its destruction. Except that half of the houses are being handed out to the richest players, and the other half of the houses will probably see a fair number of them sold to the richest players once people claim them and put them up for bid.

well, paying 100 mil for a 15 x 15 you can only decorate using the mud hut hovel tileset and place 3 vendors on might make one humble I suppose.

If this is true, I'll be extremely upset. It would be one of the worst ideas since Proficiencies.

And while I'm trying not to jump the gun because I don't know exactly what the developers have planned, I was hoping that each shard's community of players would have our own input as to how New Magincia is re-built.

answer to the topic: no, not a gold sink ... not with half as a one time "entry"

wanna take a guess at the "fair price" for a single lottery tick for multiple buys?
Gonna keep it low enough that a "poor" player will buy ONE?
considering that even the most noobishly math challenged "poor player" ...
knows he is gambling against the "brute force buyers"?

AND the RNG ... wow ... *shakes head*

Why would you want a house in Magincia? And why would I visit Magincia once it's full of player housing?

I came back to UO after a break and this new dev team just seems way out of it. I believe them when they say they love the game, but I think they have some weird kind of myopic view of things. They don't want to fix factions because they screwed it up last time? PvP (Factions, etc) is WHAT makes this game. You can spend months developing content additions that will get swallowed up and burnt out on in weeks or you can perfect the PvP system and give the players a self-sustaining motivation to play.

And why isn't adding new players the top goal of this game? Everybody over there looks perfectly content with how things are now.

I am somewhat relieved that they are going to force the players who get those houses to only use on type of tile set, since Cal mentioned it, although it sounds like he wasn't supposed to.

I read through that, and it makes me wonder why they are spending so much time on flowers or plants that have your name on it and when you grew it in Magincia. I don't see that as player-driven.

The vendor thing will be what makes it breaks it for me as far as whether it's a success. If they don't put a really strict vendor limit, no matter what tile set you force them to use, they'll make look it horrible in their quest to get your attention onto the vendors. Mesanna said you can build smaller if you want, but I'm picturing people just leaving the plots empty and having vendors.

There are people who play UO and do nothing but script gold. Every so often you'll see them, recalling back to the bank every 10 minutes. The amount of gold on mobs really doesn't matter to the non-scripter except in the case of instant gratification. For example, if I solo a Bane Demon Guardian, I get 4k gold for my efforts, which, to me, is a nice chunk of cash (since I'm an oldie, who has played since T2A). However, when I solo a Blackrock Golem, and I only get 1.7k, I feel like I've wasted my time. I mean, I could have killed an Oni a lot easier and gotten the same amount of cash as I did soloing the Golem, but hardly anything drops 4k gold. All boss types should carry more gold if not only for the instant gratification.

As for gold farming, there are plenty of areas in the game with high GPS (gold per second! lol)...plus, there are secondary ways to get gold, as evident by all of the MIB loot on vendors for like 20k lol...people love to get gold from MIBs now, and as a result, no one will ever buy the too-common arties (except the bikini maybe?) for more than the price of a semi-rare. But as long as there are scripters, i.e., forever, the economy will be ****ed. I mean you could have nothing but mongbats in the game and eventually scripters would tilt the ship.

I agree, but then, I own houses next to one another. Maybe some people would like the chance to be able to own two houses next to each other, and Magincia could be a way to do that for them. Also, I disagree with the people who think Luna II is a bad idea. I'm all for Luna II, III, IV, hell, the more Lunas the better. Not so much for Luna owners right now, or their subsidiaries, such as myself, but for the consumer, having more than one Luna is great, it means more options and competitive pricing. Right now it's Luna or nothing. **** running around randomly looking for deals, rofl.

I'd like to know if Magincia will have a town surrounded by these houses, Or if it'll just be an island full of houses.

If it's the latter I don't personally see the appeal.

I have been hearing rumors of some sort of Auction system or vendor search or whatever that has to do with buying and selling in UO.

Assuming that eventually Ultima Online will get a global system that addresses buying and selling in the game, whatever it will be, what would be the point of spending a lot of gold for a spot in Luna 2.0 which will become obsolete when the game will give itself a better buy/sell global system (and it would be about time this happened, IMHO....) ??

If it will be 1 lottery ticket per account, I hope that it will not be overlooked that trial accounts will not be allowed to purchase them......

Also, if the new Houses will be a limitd plot size to 15x15 and I heard also that they might be limited in the vendors that they could host, as well as they will only be able to be customized with acertain set of tiles, how about compensating these quite heavy limitation to an exceptional storage capacity that is not linked to the limited plot size ?

That is, even though the plot will be only 16x15 the capacity will be that of a Keep or that of a Castle, for example ?

I mentioned Keep or Castle and not a mere 18x18 capacity because the limitations are several besides the size and so, offering the compensation of a 18x18 storage capacity seems a compensation not good enough for all of the limitations there are.
Going with a larger storage capacity, for example that of a Keep or Castle, seems to me more appropriate as a rightfull compensation.

trial accounts cant have houses anyway.

Remember how the Stygian house contest was done ?

Players participating would win a deed which they could trade to others.

Now, "if" trial accounts will be allowed to "buy" lottery tickets (which is not placing a house, it merely is buying a lottery ticket....), and they win the "right" to the deed and they can trade this deed to another account, what will prevent players to just use trial accounts and buy hundreds of lottery tickets to increase their chances at a win and then transfer the winning deed to a regular account for placing ?

I hope this is not overlooked and that trial accounts are barred from being able to participate and buy lottery tickets.

yes, they said you could sell/trade the deeds.... they also said the deeds were, right now, good for only 30 days

Yea, if you could only place legacy houses, i'd be more excited. 75% of the players can't design a dingy.

I was hopin the city be restored as it once was, or close, and the only housing be what it once was, room for nothing much but humble small fishing huts, etc. to sort of go with High Seas adventuring, from a once lovely island that had a beautiful city, that got destroyed, like much more that has been destroyed or lost or perma changed into that which it never was originally.

And not turned into some billionares lotto row homes, ie another luna ghetto of nothinness but greed, & rich folks sellin simple tables for 5k+ and up !

No wonder newer poorer players if they do try UO do not stick around.

It'd take em billions to equip or to buy anything in UO anymore, it is like playin some sims Wall Street bear market rich folks only, game online !

Seems the *virtues* of UO been long forgotten as part of the wonder and plot of UO per say...like HUMILITY ! meh !

So, in short: no the rebuilding of Magincia is not intended as a gold sink. We'll get you more details on this, the purpose for the design decisions made, and eliminate any confusion or speculation.
