Servers wiped clean.........Everyone loses Everything!!

However.....A sudden wipe along these lines would be a really bad idea.

Just curious... has anything like this ever happened to the main production shards ever? Can't recall as such myself. Nearest I've seen, has been occasional server reverts, last major one being on Great Lakes, that affected me. For that matter, are there any examples of other online games where it's happened? How did they recover?

I've played for a long time and would quit if I lost everything, especially my characters. I don't have the desire to start from scratch. However if something like that were to be done, the developers need to make sure that all the dupe bugs and scripting is fixed. Otherwise the new servers would be plagued with the same problems and very little has been accomplished by a wipe.

Closest thing I've seen was a problem with custom housing when it was released. There was a problem with locked down chests that resulted in them going away or emptying the first couple days, which EA denied existed but announced a vague fix the following week, after which the problem was no longer there.

Yeah, I'd keep playing. Items in the game don't make me happy.
Playing the game and running spawns etc with friends make me happy.

You have to understand one thing about a classic shard. There wouldn't be any spawns ( provided that the classic shard definition is pre 2001)all you are going to have is the classic dungeons of the day.

Many of us have done it before. They used to wipe accounts if they were inactive for more than 6mths.

Actually, they used to say that they were going to do that... in the history of UO, they have never actually wiped anyone's account for inactivity, because they realized that the database space was an acceptable price for getting someone to return.

I would quit for good. I wouldnt want to replace the 3 houses Ive got. Skills,Armor, etc... I dont worry about.

If it were just items that went poof I'd say, but if it were characters too I'd probably leave. I don't have the desire to start from scratch again. Its taken me a long time to get my account to where it is now. Of 7 characters on my main account 3 are completely finished just the way I wanted them, and the other 4 are coming along quite nicely. I'd hate to see all that work undone.

I'd probably start over, though... I'd be pissed about a few things. First there are some things in the game that absolutely can't be replaced, I'm not talking simply items like the Old EM items from years ago, nor the trinkets the new EM's give out. I'm talking like the Blessed Houses, and areas that were constructed years ago. No I don't have one of these but I do have a house in Fel that's older than most of today's players accounts, and it's in a design that was removed from the game making it pretty much irreplaceable.

Cloaks, Robes, Swords, Mounts, Characters, etc can all be replaced... History can't.

There have been several post lately about people loosing items in this game, or having them stolen. (Sad, but true colors come out fast when one has the annonymity of being behind thier keyboard)

I would still play! I would be sad about all the years of crap I aquired, going poof, but I would just start playing and gathering up new stuff to play with.

Yes. I too would still play. You would hear my lound protests for a bit. But I would still play.

When Lake Austin and Origin was born.. that was like starting over. I stuck to Lake Austin but didn't have the gumps to make all new chars again for origin. I did try though.

But, anyone stop to think about it?

Server's whipped, everyone starts over with BASIC armor... No one has any mods... How do you compete in the current world of overpowered mods? Gang up in groups to hunt things you could easily solo before until you can get enough resources for a crafter to turn in for bods in hopes of a runic?

Kinda an interesting concept, in the current world, you farm gold at a low level after you get gear from kind people, nothing uber or even decent, just enough to kill things for money, then you buy better, until you're able to effectively farm for items or gold to sell at a high value to finish your suit.

No one mentioned anything about this, prolly would bring a lot of fun and memories back to UO as what we took for granted is no longer there.

Nope, we just have people saying they'd quit and plugging the classic shard in. *sigh*

In all fairness, I don't recall Demonous having an "agenda" when it comes to classic server. But because someone has shared an opinion or passing thought (which is all I believe this was), that's a bad thing?

I think Konge's following post certainly does add some good perspectives here. I also think with a topic like this one, it's worth wondering, what is actually the most important aspects for consideration, when it comes to playing UO?

Community?
Gameplay?
History?
etc...

Clearly there's always going to be differences of opinion, as to what's most important - to each person.
