Would you still play UO? or would the loss of all "your" stuff cause you to quit UO forever?

There have been several post lately about people loosing items in this game, or having them stolen. (Sad, but true colors come out fast when one has the annonymity of being behind thier keyboard)

I would still play! I would be sad about all the years of crap I aquired, going poof, but I would just start playing and gathering up new stuff to play with.

...if we do get the classic shard, it'll be a completely new slate.

In that context, losing "my stuff" on the production servers, wouldn't bother me in the slightest

I've absolutely no doubt that a lot of players would be upset though, given the importance of items in the game as is now. Quite understandably so. All hypothetical though, so hopefully it won't happen.

If I lost all my dearest Sentimental posessions to me (Positive and Negative Magenetic states on a HDD Platter or not), I might finally kick the bucket tbh. I'm not trying to be a downer or anything, but stuff passed on from friends that no longer play, or no longer even breath in real life? What I have left from them are in my House, and I'd like to keep them as long as possible. It's a big reason why I pay for my Account still, the Memories, and I'd like to keep the "Real" items for as long as possible.

So, if all was wiped, I might finally call it quits if Europa dissapears. (Classic Shard on the other hand might keep me still, heh, if it ever spawns, but it'll still be a MOST unwelcome loss, suffice to say)

If everyone lost everything equally, I guess it would depend on getting housing. If I could find a equal or larger plot or better yet replace my old house then I would keep playing if not at some point I would quit.

Agreed, If I got the same house I have now, skills and items can be regotten, If someone takes a house spot you had you really liked it would be hard to get back.

I have too many sentimental things, houses and decorations to want to continue on then. Also losing all the characters, the hard work on them, their skills, their history and everything would be a deal breaker for me.

So yes, I would start again.

My problem has been in the mad rushes for housing that I participated in, I was beaten to the spot every time. When Trammel was created I went and marked a bunch of spots prior to housing. I had to work the first day of housing but tried during lunch only to find the lag so horrible I couldn't move so I wait till after work and all the spots were full and not only full but all the surrounding areas were full. I lucked out because my guildmaster suggested a spot and it was open and I placed. Prior in the original land mass I managed to place a house before housing was full. I'm not sure how things woudl be now but I wouldn't be able to afford a house as soon as others due to my short hours playing and it's possible I might not be able to place a larger house anywhere. I mean I guess any house would be good for a while and I can probably do that now so I should be ok for a while. Yeah it would probably all work out good eventually.

If I still had my characters skills I'd stay. Otherwise I'd go elsewhere for something new to try. I won't put the training time in again unless it's on an AoS free EA shard.

I've been there pretty close on the lose everything scene. I did the custom house bit the day it became available. The next day the chests locked down in the house were mostly empty. A few years work gone. i stayed then. Was ticked though.

I think that ultimately, it would be the final straw for me. It's got nothing to do with the lost housing, although that would be a pain in the butt. It's got nothing to do with the multiple thousands of ingots and leather and yes, even cloth, I have harvested, or boards, or ML gems, or imbuing ingredients - all of that can be replaced, with a little time and effort. After all, I managed to replace all of it when I came back in December of last year.

What would be the killer for me is a few, meaningless to anyone but me, items that I have had in my possession since before Renaissance, and some from slightly after - items made by some of my best friends in game, period. A pair of boots... a pair of chain gloves... my first set of gm armor I ever made (now with the pointless, worthless stats that AoS imparted on them...)... 4 katanas and a kryss that started life as silver, and vanquishing or might or whatever - now simply just undead slayers with more garbage AoS stats, but *I* know what they were... a couple of original potted plants... all stuff that, the last time I *quit*, I had the forsight to put in my bank box before I logged off for the *last time*...

If those were gone, I think that would be it for me. The new stuff is easy to replace. The old stuff is irreplaceable - for some, memories are enough. But the memories are even fonder when you have a *picture* to go with them.

Many of us have done it before. They used to wipe accounts if they were inactive for more than 6mths.

One of my favorite things is building characters. It is my favorite thing. Often I come back for a month or two, do a bunch of character training and then quit again.

It would hurt, but it would also bring back alot of the community that UO used to have when people needed other people on a regular basis.

By no means am I saying do it, I'm just going along with the hypothetical question that was asked.

No, I'd close the accounts, or maybe leave one to see how it goes, but I suspect it would not go very far...

I have two active accounts because I cannot put the characters on only one, the accounts are active because... I cannot bring myself to packing the meaningful stuff (tricky part being that old Fel towers I placed myself are "meaningful stuff" too).

I would still play under certain conditions!!

- If it was a mistake on EA's part I would expect some sort of compensation.
- If it was an accident of sorts, I would again expect EA to give the players an incentive to keep paying and playing.
- If it had happened on purpose I would like to know the reason- For instance it could be that without a clean wipe, anti-cheating would not work(this is an EXAMPLE, have to stress it rolleyes or maybe without a wipe a game-stopping issue could not be dealth with(the mother of all game bugs? rolleyes..

If no reason would be offered I'd stop playing though. I know I own nothing in the game as that other post in UHall indicates, I have lived with that 12 years or more. But a wipe without a stated official(and VERY good) reason would simply make me /RageQuit Ultima once and for all, to be honest, and it wouldn't be because I lost items or skills if you get my point. It would rather be a "Quit EA/M" thing.

Sometimes i log on, start to do something, remember how easy it is and stop.

If i didnt have everything i need ( i dont realy have sentimental items) it would be interesting trying to get it all again.

They would have to redo 12 years woth of events and content in a timely manner to allow me at least a shot at the few priceless treasures I have accumulated over said 12 years.

On second thought, thinking back over the time I have been in UO, the thing that made those treasures priceless is the time I spent with friends (most of them who don't play anymore) gathering them. The many hours spent in teamspeak plotting, the thrill of sharing in conquest with those friends...

It would be a hard decision.

As much as I enjoy building characters and exploring, I would probably take the opportunity to at least try out other games. Starting over completely from scratch is a pain in the rear...I've done it twice. I really don't want to again.

I've spent 12 years getting to where I am now. Not only wouldn't I play again. I don't ever plan to play another online game after this one.

I suspect I'll be happier when all of this is gone, but my family has had many many wonderful times over the years in this game. We particularly enjoy when we have to work quickly to attain some sort of longtime goal.

I don't really understand why people are happy everything they ever attained in factions is about to be gone. I get that its a flawed situation, but how can completely destroying it be a good idea?

If i logged in to find everything was wiped i'd instantly log out and cancel both of my accounts. The only thing that holds alot of people to this old antiquated game is all their stuff they've acquired in up to 12 plus years of playing. If i knew everything was gone i'd be gone from UO too. Not only that but i'd never purchase another EA console or computer product for the rest of my life.

UO is a fun game and all but not fun enough that i'd want to start over from scrath after almost 12 years.....

I'd say goodbye and good riddance to UO.

I could do without the items because most of what I have is subpar anyway. Wouldn't even fret much over the lost housing (some custom houses and keeps on two very empty shards). But I've done the starting from scratch routine on almost all the shards already and can't see myself going through all that again or watching people pushing and shoving, scratching and clawing their way through the game to regain their former "glory." As others have already said, it would help me break my addiction to UO. I wouldn't leave even one account open because after a while I know I'd most likely be tempted to re-open another one, and then another.

I'd be more likely to quit if only I lost something than if everyone did.

If everyone does at the same time I'm by definition no longer at a disadvantage.

However.....A sudden wipe along these lines would be a really bad idea.
