More like hammered on. Every rank I've been through they've sent me through what we call the "gauntlet". pretty much where anyone (usually friends and co-workers) that is higher rank than you are lines up on each side of you, and you walk down the middle of them and they all "tac" you on. Then you turn around and walk the other way...when I got E4 i had 15 people on each side of me...my arms were black and blue for weeks after that lol....but its worth it!

*had to go to too many miltary ceremonies as a parent, when my own kids were all given another stripe* lol but hey they were so proud and slap happy to get one more stripe on their uniforms ever even !!

But I still remember my daughter comically with her puny couple of strips saluting mr....mega stripes mega metal admiral something or other ...in perfect Navy etiquette saluting saying to him...*permission to call you an ahole SIR ?*

Hazing is not tolerated under the UCMJ dontchaknow....
