A Silent auction house (with help from the hard working Demonous and Sundina Team)
Will Demon Slayer and Sundina own the house? and Will they be the only ones with access to the items?

Thats the number one important thing to me so figured I would ask.

Gareth,

Yes the House and account will be theirs for the prep and throughout the fest

I am so pleased they are willing to do this tremendous chore- its not only the responsibility of the items but the the amount of time they put into being around for every item to be entered and then again sold

Thanx Again Demonous and Sundina for being here for the Rares fest community!

What is going on with the Raresfest? I see posts about bids but no informational topic.

If there is a Raresfest coming to Atlantic soon I might finally be motivated to decorate the Wintermoor Museums and open them.

Re: Atlantic Rares Fest Bid

I have nothing against Arya, or Toad Town by any stretch. My frustration lies with the meaning of rares fest being lost through dilution over time of its principles.

Now in the past I recall walking into a rares fest and seeing quality goods on vendors. I remember seeing stuff I had never seen before, much of it holiday stuff but still new nonetheless. I remember when the fest holders cared about what was tossed on a vendor, and if the stuff was garbage the vendor was sacked for not following the ideals of the fest.

It saddens me to say that although the last few fest holders did a good job in several areas, the overall quality of vendors was lacking. Instead of being surprised and intrigued by the merchandise, I found myself sniveling over how much of what was seen looked like another temporary luna. The quality was lacking, as was much of the prestige.

So what exactly am I saying here? I am just disappointed. Perhaps people ought to reflect on the ideas set forth by the founders of fest. I know Manticore, DVI, and others have expressed the same thoughts I have.

Personally I think Rares fest should wait until later in the year than what is *planned* with these fests. Allow collectors a chance to breath a little, give them some time to make additional gold to cover the costs of transferring the various goods, and most of all allow those collectors an opportunity to actually collect things they can use for trades and sales at the next event. Otherwise these just end up being an expensive meet and greet with a silent auction and haven for half arsed vendors.

If that is what you all want...go for it. If not, I suggest pushing the date back on this to allow for the actual spirit of Rares Fest to continue on like how it used to be...instead of having us all bow to mainstream commercialism.

(1) Rares Fest will be in the Fall
(2) Won't be on Atlantic
(3) Demon and Sun will do the AH

Yea, about that bowing down thing, gonna have to pass.

As far as the quarreling over different times of the year. Things are a lot easier to plan when you actually have a schedule (i.e. time of year).

So, my proposal is simple. Have the Atlantic one in June/July then do Gung's in say October/November? However, you would have to break away from the snobbish elitism that pretty much destroyed the WoW community and come to some kind of compromise.

I for one would love to have something like this on Atlantic. This shard has just as much history, if not more, as most. With Link reopening the Wintermoor Buildings, this would be an amazing event. Thats almost enough reason to do it alone. How many of you have ever been there?

These are only my thoughts, feel free to make them yours.

The bolded portion is what hurts this community. People who act like elitists and feel like they can dictate to everyone else. I guess this is what occurs when a community is based around gold and buying low/sellling high. Hard to have a solid community when everyone wants the same thing and their are so few of them.

I am NOT apart of Toad Town but how is it that it seems like everyone is passing over these guys just because they are from a populated shard? No other proposals have been made yet and still the effort being put in by these guys is not enough for some.

I also think the fests should be more spread out. as host of the last rares fest, looking back i think we should have waited longer to host it because there had just been one in Jan. I would like to see the next one maybe late fall or somthing. Thats just my 2 cents.

Re: Atlantic Rares Fest Bid

I hope it didn't seem like I was trying to dictate anything. I am not an elitist by any measure, and I am often riddled with mistakes. However, that doesn't mean what I say doesn't hold merit. In addition what I mention has nothing to do with any players or participants in this matter, my view is simply one that many share but often don't take the time to state.

Lets face it, 4 a year is really pushing the whole point. In three months time I personally have little time to get things together, decide what to keep, and decide what goes to fest. That is at least 8 transfer tokens per year spent on fest alone, not counting the dozens used moving goods around prefests. To me trying to get ready every three months is a headache, a costly and inefficient headache.

Sorry to be a debbie downer, but that is just my opinion. IMO lets wait which in turn will make the next fest exciting. Allow some time for people to prepare and collect, so we don't end up with 40 vendors of luna crap as a result. My own vendor included.

id be very happy if the next festival would take place in october or november and I too am sick of vendors looking like luna vendors, if you don't have any true rares or event items, don't set up a vendor, stop using the rares fest as a quick way to make gold selling luna junk like vet rewards, and artifacts and stuff

I definitely understand your point Cowboy and my post was really not geared toward anyone specifically.

My whole point is very simple. Everyone on this specific forum has one thing in common, and that is dealing with rares, so let's get together and set up a time and place to meet and gather. If you have things that you would like to showoff or sell, bring them, if not, bring yourself. The day you start making a game a headache, you lose the game.

I know Queen and the rest of the 'Toads' really want to have this event. I also know the kind of hours and dedication that Queen puts towards these things, and I know she will make this event a great experience.

Atlantic is also getting passed over way too easy and that is pretty sad considering for the majority of UO's existence, the top guilds were on ATL, but apparently they didn't have any rares? Some of the best and brightest players have come from this shard and looking over it to follow the cool kids is kind of a bad omen of signs to come in UO. When you have people like Link (JC) who have contributed and excelled in their contributions to not only Atlantic but UO as a whole, the event could only be that much more exceptional.

anyway, if there is to be a fest on atlantic, the toad town guys would be great for it.

I think a big problem with rares fest is that you can only charge 100 mill for an item. Almost all of the elite rares are well over a 100 mill. UO really needs to lift this limit.

Thats why you make a silent auction to make sure those rares that go over 100mil are bought safely.

I will post again on this subject as the last post someone had was removed. You guys do not need the permission or approval from anyone on these forums. All you need is the vision and the initiative to put it on. By posting these threads on bids and requests your just gonna get negative comments because it does not matter where it is, who it is, or when it is there are gonna be people here who will pancake. Just go ahead and submit your official post on it as far as dates times and events. That's just my 2 cents, and that,s exactly what I did for the second rares fest on Chessy, I did not ask for anyone's approval because frankly I really didn't care if anyone approved or not. You do the work you deserve the bounty!

I'm all for a rares fest to take place in the fall...and for the record I have no complaints over Arya's proposal aside from the proposed time frame. A person could literally spend all the time in the world putting things together perfectly, but if the timing is not right all the work could be for naught.

The Rares Festival will more then likely continue with whoever says they are having one has one with collectors attending no matter where its at or when its at.

Not until you all once again learn your lesson by having your butts nailed to the wall and your items in someone else bank box like before on the Pacific shard. Players will come here, throw a fit demanding something be done which we cannot do anything for you but that wont stop the screaming and horrible PMs that will be sent to moderators and admins. While they display your work in pictures attached to For Sale posts and will have no problem collecting the bounty once sold.

Then maybe people will want to listen to a council of trusted players. For those who know me they will tell you that I don't support dictatorships. The communities I'm involved in are not run by one player who is the the all mighty and the festival council wont be run like a dictatorship.

When I was helping with the two festivals on Chesapeake I thought the rares community was just a buncha rich tight wads trying to make a buck and I've learned it is way far and beyond that. One thing I am a firm believer in is you cannot change peoples minds so, let them start drowning first and then maybe players will want to discuss things.

There is a difference between protecting players from getting robbed and no you don't need permission, but you do need the trust and cooperation of the Rares community if you expect them to come.So with all that said I just wanted to thank Queen Arya for posting this bid.

The point that isn't being put across is that the date can be flexible. Whenever the council decides is my opinion. I also agree that having a rares fest on an unpopulated shard would be pointless, we all know people farm the rares on them and need an excuse to get them off but they will all be the same types of items. If in disagreement, let's see their proposal then.

Also in agreement with a previous statement, it is afterall a Rares Festival, so whoever the host will be should enforce the rule that only true rares should be displayed on vendors.

The Last rares fest on LS was a low poputlated shard and it turned out great. I would rather have a fest on a low population shard because it really brings out closet collectors and gets new people involved more so then a more popultated shard. On LS i am happy to say that some new collectors where introduced to this fun hobby and a few old collectors came out of the wood works for the event. I would vote for a low pop shard over a populated one any day. I think it really brings the community of that low pop shard together and shows them there is life out there!

So I guess that means you are referring that my comments are negative and meaningless. Seeing how you don't seem to be able to read between the lines let me make this a little clearer for you. Either grow a set and post a official thread about the fest or move over and let someone else do it. Or do we need to have ten more polls and bids about the damn thing. Sorry ya had my support but its waning rapidly.

I'm really not sure why there is so much negativity surrounding this. Toad Town has laid out its proposal (a very nifty one at that) and there are a couple others on the way as well. Everyone seems to dislike the amount of festivals per year, so why act so pushy towards getting things decided?

The festivals have never been a free for all, they have always been regulated and for good reason. It's a special event and should be regarded as such. Any group or person that has hosted one knows the amount of hard work it takes to make it successful. They aren't meant for the lazy or those seeking some sort of instant prestige.

With that said I for one am excited to see how it pans out. I have received some interesting updates and am looking forward to seeing the other proposals.

Oh, I moved this from the Atlantic Proposal thread, but any and all festival related topics can be discussed here.

Not to start an argument Demonous, but you keep stressing Atl does not need another fest and there should only be 2 fests a year. According to your list you had no problem running a fest 3 months after one finished. You also did not make any issue about another Chessy fest less than a year after yours. I might have to agree with some individuals that unless you are part of the in-crowd your fest proposal is worthless. I did notice that both Bon and Queen's proposals are gone. Why is that? Bon had a survey going on his and a Yes for Atl fest was winning the vote but unless the "Cool Kids" say yes then it aint happening. All I can say is Wow, a lot of people on these forums are amazing with the way they try to make themselves feel above the avg player. Stop being snootie against new collectors, new players selling a rare event item, etc, etc. I myself was subject to PMs trying to get me to sell items dirt cheap when I first started posting on here. I have played UO for 10 years and have seen all sorts of people come and go but most in "Rares community" take the cake!

To be honest it was not his idea Demonous and Sundina were asked and well to be honest I did a little begging and groveling for them to do the Silent Auction house.

Lineman either came to me or I came to Lineman about and we put it on as a small mini rares fest because the collectors asked for one to exchange Christmas items. No one stepped up at all and before we knew it the entire "mini" aspect was gone within two weeks of planning.

Now to be honest I think Bon Iver and the rest of the people wanting to put on the festival should wait and why do I think this? Having been a part of two them and all the work myself and others put in would have been more fulfilling to the community had we waited. I sure would hate to see these people put on a festival and pour all they have into it just to see it bomb out due to lack of new items.

I dont meant to be a jerk but you just publicly attacked Demonous for something he was not responsible for.

I did notice that both Bon and Queen's proposals are gone. Why is that? You have no idea what you talking about there, you need to contact Bon Iver and ask him why someone else posted the bid. No one is being snooty against the new collectors but almost all of the new collectors have no clue what has happened in the past but one day you will find out when you see your collection gone and something like this posted.

AND are these hosts for Rares Festivals prepared to take responsibility for replacing BILLIONS should something happen at their festival?

The proposal is stickied at the top of the main page.

As for the decision making process it has nothing to do with popularity. Its previous festival hosts. I suggest you re-read the set up, I'm not in the habit of excluding anyone based on how well liked they are or to put people down because they are new.

i would like to see 2 a year, that would be best, if more than that take place what can i do about it... it was not my idea to do the second chessy festival, i was asked by a few people to do the auction house so i eventually agreed, if 10 rares fests take place in a year and they ask me to do the auction each time, id probably agree because i don't want what happened on pacific to take place again. When they asked me to help with chessy i wasn't happy because i really was looking forward to a festival on the sakura asian shard which was being talked about at the time, either that or Napa Valley but somehow it wound up on chesapeake.... I dunno why the proposals they made are gone ask Athelas, also athelas came up with the idea of a rares fest council to vote on festivals after a general vote is made by the public, if it happens on atlantic thats fine, again i have nothing against the toad town people at all, i just would like to see a festival on another shard that has never had one, even if someone said lets do one on chessy again, id be against it. I like other shards getting an opportunity.

I will tell you all what I told Athelas, my vote would have been yes to the Atlantic proposal however after reading all the BS flying over these forums I want absolutely nothing to do with any Rares Fest Council. I am known for my work but I am also known for being painfully blunt to people. I honestly feel that any of the new collectors or whoever feels people are being snootie deserve to learn things the hard way and not have a Council but lucky for you thats not my decision.

As stated I didn't want to sound as though I was attacking or being rude to anyone. I was just stating my opinion as to what I have seen on these boards lately. I have nothing against anyone here, I have dealt with many people and it has all been a great experience. I appologize Demonous if I offended you in any way, but judging from your reply you seem to be the only one who understood what I was trying to say anyway.

I am all for new collectors, and the only reason I would ever NOT trade with someone was if I felt they were of the shady sort on one level or another. If I seem snobbish with my understanding on things, that is not the intent.

As Tomas mentioned in the other thread, the idea of fests were to get people together. Makes me think of family reunions...and why they are better had once a year rather than four times a year. Rares fests are good in moderation, and the fewer there are...the more likely people will have new stories to share around the campfire.

Again, I have nothing against people making plans for fests...but dammit lets not wash them out by seeing how many we can have in a years time.
