Proposed changes to virtues

Since everyone else is posting theirs, why not...

I'll start by saying though that the recent changes to the virtue system are terrible, we've stopped bothering to use justice at spawns, compassion drops so quickly it's useless, and basicly the same with all but sacrifice. It's just not worth having any of the virtues anymore, unless you only want them as a status symbol.

so...proposed changes.

1. Justice

Justice decay should go back to how it was, over time. There's no reason you should lose justice on every sot and 105 that drops to your pack. In addition though something needs to be done about how people farm justice, to make the virtue actually mean something again. This probably won't be popular but as most of my characters are normally red know that this isn't just something that "doesnt affect me". I think the murder status should apply to all characters on the shard (all characters under your account share one set of murder counts) and once you've gone red 3 times you go permared. (gives people more than enough chances to stay blue if they want to). Won't stop people from killing guildmates or an alt account, but would make it a serious choice to keep that character red entirely for the purpose of farming justice. (and hopefuly bring some meaning back to that virtue)

2. Compassion

Like justice, it's decay should go back to how it was, over time. As is now, if you're resurrecting other people you lose weeks worth of grinding the virtue up in minutes, which, again, like justice, makes it useless....too much work for too little gain. IMHO the compassion sage needs to go away, it makes no sense gaining in the virtue of compassion by killing monsters in the exodus area, but at the same time new escorts should be added that grant a lot more compassion than current ones (especially since you can only take 1 at a time now). They should actually be somewhat difficult, the normal escorts were to some extent when they were put in due to brigands and murderers, but now it's just a grind of "gate here, gate here...gate here". Make it so the NPC walks and you follow them instead of them following you, and you have to guard them to their destination. Like the grizelda the hag quest, at points in the road "events" should happen, like a gang of high level brigands raids you (like the executioners that were used in some previous events). And it should be something that's actually somewhat difficult to complete (though not boss level). At the end it should offer you a decent amount of gold, at least 10-50k, and you should only gain compassion if you turn it down. (but it should be a significant gain, due to the time spent)

3. Honor

Honestly, honor was working just fine before the change, it wasn't overpowered, it wasn't horribly difficult to gain, but it wasn't easy and quick to gain either. All it really needs is a rollback to how it was.

4. Sacrifice

^ See honor, sacrifice is just bugged out and weird now, still useful at least, but...weird. (it's actually the only one that stayed useful)

5. Honesty

Interesting in how you gain it, a bit of a grind but somewhat makes sense....only the items you find for honesty should actually be somewhat valuable (they should be random magic weapons/armor pieces, at least on a level that would unravel to essence, so it actually means something ot choose to turn it in rather than keep it). This one is just silly losing it when you use to purchase something also, with how hard it is to gain especially makes it useless for normal usage, only way for it to pay off would be to buy and resell high price things like the new high seas ships...if you lose a week's worth of work buying the npc vendor items it really should have a better payoff.

It's always a good idea to post... well, good ideas!

What do you think about the other, neglected virtues?

I'm of the opinion that all the virtues and anti-virtues should be reworked to make it possible to gain the title of Avatar or Guardian depending on which of these paths you choose to take.

The Stranger shouldn't be the only one capable of reaching the pinnacle!

For Compassion, before I hit Knight I seemed to be losing it super fast, but I resurrected pets and players maybe a dozen or so times last night at an event, and I was still Knight by the end of it.

Seems a bit strange...

Ned there cannot be an avatar in UO. The hence why there was just one avatar. Raptor I agree that it makes sense to scale back these changes or simple upkeep becomes impossible. Scale back the powers if you have to but don't have us lose it all and have to take weeks to go back up. Thats just insane.

There always seems to be a problem when they try to change something. They seem to overcomplicate or not do enough.

Like I don't understand why they needed to change the basic structure of how the Virtue works just to remove the timer of decay.

If you're gaining in a Virtue, it should not decay until you use it.

That parts correct but losing the entire thing when you do use it doesn't work. For example: If it takes one day to gain 3 blue dots, then one use should be equal to those 3 dots at a maximum.

If you have to work an entire week for 10 seconds of joy, it doesn't make sense.

Reverting it back isn't going to make them better. They need to move forward in a different way. Anti-Virtue should be considered and the system rebuilt.

Like if you see a wounded dog in the forest, it should become a more animated quest type thing but completely random and intriquing.

It seems like they are trying to get you to use The Virtue. I would say find other ways to use the same Virtues and tie it into Karma.

Like if you go to The Shrine of Compassion and say the mantra, you could use some of The Compassion and you could use Karma, negative and positive, in this case, positive.

Example: You pray at The Shrine and receive a sword and shield. It lasts for a period of time, maybe 2 days. It uses 8 dots and almost removes all of your Karma but during the time your under the spell, your Karma is raised, making Chivalry more powerful.

So, this would be another way to drain the characters Virtue and Karma.

I don't understand the reasoning for punishing the player besides the fact it may become to powerful but in that case, they should come up with other ways to use The Virtue, as well as gain in The Virtue.
