The last upgrade went too far, they're fairly unkillable. Can their hit points be toned down a bit? It wasn't like they were simply being farmed. Just take a look at how many treasure hunters just leave all the wyrms around the islands.

Disagree, they fine now as is the Greater dragons. Of Course Destard is a ghost dungeon as the spawn sometimes gets to a point you cannot handle it.

In my opinion, Ancient Wyrms should never have been killable by one person in the first place. They are basically a boss creature like they should be. Live with it.

Gone are the days when taking one of these on alone was unheard of. They are still soloable with certain templates.

Hands up if you remember happily taking 30 minutes to kill a creature just to say you had killed it? Not kill-loot-kill-loot-kill-loot.

I remember taking at least that long on my archer to kill a phoenix cause I wanted to say I used its feathers to make arrows :p

Ancient Wyrms should never have been killable by one person in the first place. They are basically a boss creature like they should be.

Wish they would apply that logic to the Peerless'. No one should be soloing any of the "Boss" creatures in this supposed MMORPG.

I admit that was far too weak for a monster that should have your short hairs standing up when you see it coming... right now its a far cry from "the deadliest beast in Britannia..."

If you want a game that has bosses you cant solo with a top end all be all char then play WOW.

I soloed everyting in game just to say I did in 1999 and why not in 2008 there are a few I cant doand I am fine with that.

Soloing is for braging rights and self satifaction nothing more.

I love the new wyrmms btw what a fine battle it is.

I killed the onld one with Saris in 2000 by lancing and my updated vamp Saris still can't toe to toe the new one.

However UO is not about groups, its about do whatever you want and thats how I like it.

How many here remember when you saw the Silver Serpent in the lost lands you pss in your drawers trying to outrun it, :stretcher:. Today that poor guy has been nerf so bad that most warriors can swat it, poor serpent needs some :heart: loving to. So lets quit with nerf crys and go look for something that really needs the attention of the UO Gods. :popcorn:

They dont need nerfing , you just need to maybe change your template around a little bit and learn better hunting strat. I kill them with no prob by myself and enjoy the toughness of the hunt.

Frankly I think they need to nerf players more than monsters. I'm decidedly happy about monsters that take multiple people to kill, and unhappy about people hitting for triple digits. I was 2 shotting lich lords the other night, hitting them for 130s using a stupid 7th anniversary item. Thats ridiculous a lich lord should require a perfect char to kill. On top of this, items should not bring characters above the 720 skill cap ever. The cap should be hardened to reduce the outrageously overpowered super hybrids that we see.

This would help tone down script farmers, reduce the complaints from PvMers and PvPers as skill and talent might become a factor in UO again.

I still think the game is fine with pvm, pvp may need tweaks but leave pvm out of it.

also as a side notice to the DEVs please for the love of god ignore all of us.

I bet any one here to include me would screw the game competey up if we got to be the lead guy for one month.




I always prefered lawn darts to nerf anyway, every one need a hole in their head to let it get fresh air.

Holy!!!! I opened this thread to get a kick out of it as I thought it was a joke.. LOL! it wasn't...

Monsters in my opinion need a MAJOR De-Nerfing.. not nerfing....

I remember fighting the phoenix.. Man.. I died soo many times.. but it was fun fun could be.... lost alot of stuff, since we wern't blessed with Item Insurence back then.. but it was worth it....

And silver serpants... yea.. remember decite?(I think thats the dungeon with all the dead stuff in it) I remember that one lich room, it was always packed.. but as soon as a SS showed up.. it would clear the room and have people running like they just seen the end of the world.... Not to mention.. THE WALL.. and yelling at people who broke away from the wall to be greedy.. haha...

only once did I even attempt to kill a Ancient Wyrm... thing killed me before I even got a hit off... :stretcher: I think monsters should get a overhaul since most people in the game are geared to the guts... make it a challenge to leave the town if your still training a character... make it actually thrilling, if you see a orge.. you would have to either be brave.. or run becuase you know it will kill you...

one the best UO moments I've had was having to trap a Eagle in tables to kill it becasue it would have killed both me and my hunting partner.... I loved having just a casual monster in a dungeon be a challenge.. Who lately has killed a Blood Elemental?

I still hunt them for honor gains some times the para ones work good.

my bard used to farm them back in the day, they still make good amunition for a bard.

we need new monsters to make harder not re buff older ones, new chars need something to train on lol.

The thing is the wyrms used to fun. As a legendary bard, I could kill them and provoke the various battles such as the balron vs wyrm out of a chest. However, their hp boost changed their bard minimums to the extent that it just isn't fun to hope for that 1% of getting it off. As legendary mage, I could eventually kill one but not at the current rate anymore when they heal so fast. I even redid a warrior to pally archer, bought arties, and used a dragon slayer bow but still it nailed me so many time and it just got tedious having to use the stuck option to get off the islands. As a tamer, well I don't have a greater dragon so I guess maybe I should go get one but really, most pets don't have much of a chance at it.

Well, I don't care much because I never farmed them.... but the incessant healing they do at the end is what the problem is. Nerf that healing. Maybe they can only heal every 10 seconds or something and then they would die a little better. It is inhumane to let em suffer like that.... Get em down to 20 hp and they heal to 200 and then down to 20 and they heal to 200. Very inhumane. Just let em go without the torture they are put through.

Does anyone remember being jacked by 50 plus *normal birds* for messing with thier peep-ol?

Flash to today, we have people asking for the oldest creatures (age per the myth of dragon age) in the gameworld to be nerfed for being *too tough*.

I honestly wonder how most of these people asking for nerf sticks like this would fare during the *old days*.

Agrees. I think many of the changes developers have made to the game were made for the reason of getting us all to work togethter again. Since AoS we have become less reliant on those around us, becoming in many aspects sceptical of the players around us. seems we are starting to work our way in the other direction thanks to the live team. (i appreciate it folks!)

Indeed, a decent number of monsters should require multiple people to take down.

Ok, I read this post and was wondering what all the crying was about. So I get 4 lvl 6 tmaps and we take off treasure hunting. The T-Hunters job was to dig up the chest and my job was to kill the spawn with my bard. I was expected to die a lot after I saw a few post on the forums about how hard the AW were. The first spawn was dead in less than 5 minutes (1AW, 1 titan, 1 poison Ele, 1 Balron). Second tmap went pretty much like the first since it was the exact same spawn. Third map 2 AW, Balron and Titan spawned. That one took me a little longer. Forth and final was 1AW, 2 Balron and poison Elemental. Took me a little more than 5 minutes. In all, neither one of us died once and it wasn't bad at all. I did fail a lot when trying to provoke. I just invised and rinsed.. I wasnt sure what slayer to use so I used an exceptional instrument. If I had the correct slayer im sure it would have been a little easier.
If a single bard could kill these things, they really don't need to be nerfed.

The loot sucked bad. We got 2 cold steals, 1 polar bear mask and dont remember the last one. But it was useless.

Why should an ancient wyrm be soloable at all? I remember treasure hunting as an entertaining and challenging night out for our small guild, usually at least 5 of us as a whole. Not 1 guy doing them solo. UO has become a game where too much can be solo'd, where no monster really gets the adrenaline going like they used to. Keep AWs just the way they are. It's a fix that was long overdue, I used to be terrified if I saw an AW, just before the change it was "oh it's just one of those" and any thrill in soloing the AW was non existent.

For treasure hunting I do think there needs to be a review of loot so a group could actually divvy up the spoils and get a decent reward, but the AW itself should be a fearful monster for every class.

My husband has a disco bard treasure hunter on one shard and a peace bard treasure hunter on another. Both can take on an ancient wyrm and win. Needs patience and the right tactics.

they are indeed soloable with any type of template, some easier to solo with than others of course.

Man, I remember dying to deer! Who dies to wolves and bears anymore, let alone deer? The basic problem is that with every expansion the equipment got better and better, and characters got more and more powerful, while the mobs all stayed the same.

Paladins should carry nasty magical swords and armour, and use them, and they should have skills over gm for fighting and chivalry. I don't care if the items can be looted or not, just make them more powerful, and make them much more expensive to hire, or make it so they can't be hired. Perhaps they should be mounted.

All of the mobs need to be reworked, from top to bottom, including wild animals. Wolves, bears, cougars and panthers, should be a tough fight for a new character, a very tough fight. The a.i. needs to be completely reworked. Weak animals like deer, birds, rabbits, etc. should run away when you attack them, or even come near them, and they should move fast. Wolves should hunt in packs, and get their pack damage bonus.

No one should be able to solo any of the peerless or Doom bosses, or any of the champs, ever. Far more monsters should be using magical items and weapons when they fight, and should have skills up to legendary.

I was disappointed.

When I first met them, I was playing on dialup. They moved so fast that there was no way I could outrun them, even mounted, and their poison was a death sentence...

Creatures should have more hit points and should be given resists in keeping with their lore. Fire elementals should have 100 fire resist, so that they are completely immune to fire damage. Earth elementals should have way more hit points, and do far more damage, and their resists all round should be much higher, and even moreso when you get into the ore elementals. (Giving a water elemental resists like a greater dragon would be ridiculous, but yes they do need to be buffed.)

All of the mobs should have a boost in their base speed and dependent on lore, certain monsters should move as fast as a mounted player, or faster. Players should have their overall movement speed reduced as part of this process. This should come with a rework of the movement code that removes it's dependency on the quality of your connection and processor speed, so that players on dialup with old hardware have their characters move as fast as players that ping 10 and have the latest hardware. This would also annihilate the problems with speed hacking.

I'd like to see something creative done with treasure. Keep the loot on the mobs the same as it is. But every time you kill a mob, there should be a small random chance that a much better treasure cache would spawn nearby - one that can only be found with detect hidden, and is guarded by a nasty trap that can only be found with detect hidden, and removed with remove trap. (For low end mobs this could be handled with spells, but for high end mobs this should only be able to be dealt with the skills, at high level.)

This treasure should be much better than the loot on the mob, and of course how hard the treasure is to find, and how difficult the trap is, would depend on the mob in question. Some could be in locked chests, others could be under a rock. It would be so much fun to see the devs get truly creative with this.

My first hunt excursion my guildmaster took me on an AW hunt. I earned the name Nikes that night after all they saw was a blur of me running off screen after one peek at the thing *big grin*

It took us 2hrs with 4 people and I still have the scales from conquering the beast. Ah, good times.

They should have the loot of a boss creature... and not of a normal dragon

Ancient Wyrms should be somthing that requires a team to kill. As a matter of fact a ton of monsters need an UPGRADE not a degrade!... and I like the new super dragons only I still think they shouldn't be Greater Dragons..... they should just be Dragons and the old weak ones should be "hatchling dragons" or "lesser dragons"..... By no means should they be thought of as a real dragon.....

I'm sorry but when I first started playing UO Dragons were the bomb...... they were so powerful I could hardly scratch them with a dragon slaying bow.... it took an entire guild to take one down..... and THAT was fun!.... that was a community building event that kept a guild busy and on the edge..... a dragon would turn and breathe it's flame breath on you and down you'd go...... Was as it should be...... Now the whole of the game has become a solo nightmare......

What's the point of taking the guild anywhere when only one player can solo most anything in game..... what's the point of doing a treasure hunt with a guild if you only need the Treasure Hunter himself to do the whole show????? UO has lost it's "fun factor" because the game has become a solo adventure.... If I wanted to play a solo game whats the point of playing ONLINE???? May as well play a single player game rather than a MMO.... That's my opinion ....... so put your nerf stick where the sun don't shine and go play a single player game and get out of my MMO.


Please click my egg help my dragon hatch and grow.

Couldn't afford a horse, and ran for my life when chased by a dire wolf. Never thought to solo an Ancient. Many months in game before I could even step a foot in Destard. (Not that I could stay long.)

And It was FUN!! Then AOS came.... Oh well, the game's still fun

Haha, and as a newbie long ago, soloing a simple creature like a chicken, or a goat even had its difficulties :p

AW's are fine they way they are... if anything like someone else said here, make them tougher. Im sorry, but you should not be able to solo an AW at all. Nor a peerless, but thats another story for another thread.

I would love it if they changed t-hunting and removed ancient wyrms from the spawn pool. Players can't kill them and leave them hanging around for unsuspecting players.
