Player returning after 10-11 years

My wow's toon name is the name of my user name. I played UO at the back 10-11 years ago.

I finally downloaded the client a few days ago and logged into the game.

First thing I noticed that there are 2 lands now.

I wasn't sure which land was which so I just tried one. I went to Yew and Got Pked. I lost all my gear which I had crafted myself years ago. I went down (Died) far faster than I could have ever imagined.

I just read that one thread about people losing all their stuff and being upset. So, I'm glad that they posted about the insurance because I'm gonna be using that going forward. I'm pretty happy about insurance and about the safe lands where there are no pkers. I just learned the difference between the lands.

From what I read in the thread about the guys losing all their gear, the pkers are still as ruthless as ever. So, I'm glad that there are "safe" zones. ONe good thing I like about WoW is I never have to worry about any bug or exploit which causes me to lose all my gear.

I didn't have any problems finding a housing spot. When I quit, I quit at the time because I got PKed trying to put in a small house and lost most of gear and which took almost 8 hours to get.

I'm starting out in the safe zones right now trying to work up some skills. One big drawback of the game as compared to other games is UO seems a little lonely. There's just no witty chatter in chat channels. Also, in WoW if I went a few days without a guild, I would get a few ninja invites even using a common toon such as a hunter which not many people want. In this game, I've gone a few days and I haven't gotten any guild invites... SO, that kinda sucks to be honest.

I'm mostly back just out of curiosity. But the lack of a chat and guild is probably what will keep me from playing very much. Also, I'm not a fan of losing gear. I don't want my risk to be a pkers reward.. that's for sure.. Kinda like that Indy vs pats game.

Yeah it's much nicer to live in Happy Land where nothing bad can happen.
The Rainbow Sunshine Hand-Clapping Song and Hugs guild wants you in Trammel! Puppies and butterflies await you, you'll never have to risk anything again! 600 gold per item when you die is no problem when you can visit Magic Happy Wizard and his Ingenious Super Fun Gold Maker.

Welcome back. UO has a about .01% of the player base of wow. For starters I'd post on the stratics forums of the shard you play on. Always good people looking to help out returning players but you have throw yourself out there to be found. Forget everything you were used to in wow. If you remember from all those years ago, UO is about freedom, you have to have an imagination and a lot determination to enjoy this game to it's fullest potential. imho

Any questions I think there is a forum here for "youths"..... so just post and someone will try to assist you.

This may not be your problem, but did you know...
You have to uncheck "not accepting guild invites" on your paperdoll before people can invite you to a guild.

We don´t invite unguilded players willy-nilly. We´d like to know something about the player first. In UO it´s different from WoW, since if you belong to a guild, you have access to houses and boxes set to guild, so it´s also a matter of trust.

In UO, I would go the other way around, ask those with guild tags what they stand for. I doubt you want to be in a PK guild by what you posted.

Also, what shard are you on? Did you pick a pretty much unpopulated shard like Origin?

Edit: Yes, also what Atlantean Angel said.

Oh my that does sound wonderful. If there will be tequila sunrises too, and half naked men fanning me whilst I recline on a comfy sofa, I'm in!

You don't sound like someone that played 10 to 11 years ago. You sound like someone that never played UO, do you not remember how UO works?

Random guild invites? In game chat? Those things never existed. Guilds rarely ever randomly walked along and gave out guild invites, it was something you got by meeting people and making friends.

I can't humor this trammy jibberish.

I don't wanna lose my stuff, I don't want any risk, I want random strangers to invite me to their guild.

Brucie - you're the one that sounds like the one that has never played...

Random Guild invites, back in the day, was one of the ways people would sucker in noobs and kill & loot them without getting counts.

And, the in-game chat not only existed, it still exists. In the old days, it was accessible from the paperdoll, but that button was replaced by the Guild button. You can still get to it via the overhead bar. Of course, that IRC-like box would then block part of your screen, which is why if fell out of use long before AoS was released.

Protip: learn to read. I said rarely do people send out guild invites to strangers. Rarely is an adverb, an adverb is a modifier.

The in game chat is not similar to what he was asking for. WoW has in game chat, we have an in game chat ROOM.
