My wow's toon name is the name of my user name. I played UO at the back 10-11 years ago.
I finally downloaded the client a few days ago and logged into the game.
First thing I noticed that there are 2 lands now.
I wasn't sure which land was which so I just tried one. I went to Yew and Got Pked. I lost all my gear which I had crafted myself years ago. I went down (Died) far faster than I could have ever imagined.
I just read that one thread about people losing all their stuff and being upset. So, I'm glad that they posted about the insurance because I'm gonna be using that going forward. I'm pretty happy about insurance and about the safe lands where there are no pkers. I just learned the difference between the lands.
From what I read in the thread about the guys losing all their gear, the pkers are still as ruthless as ever. So, I'm glad that there are "safe" zones. ONe good thing I like about WoW is I never have to worry about any bug or exploit which causes me to lose all my gear.
I didn't have any problems finding a housing spot. When I quit, I quit at the time because I got PKed trying to put in a small house and lost most of gear and which took almost 8 hours to get.
I'm starting out in the safe zones right now trying to work up some skills. One big drawback of the game as compared to other games is UO seems a little lonely. There's just no witty chatter in chat channels. Also, in WoW if I went a few days without a guild, I would get a few ninja invites even using a common toon such as a hunter which not many people want. In this game, I've gone a few days and I haven't gotten any guild invites... SO, that kinda sucks to be honest.
I'm mostly back just out of curiosity. But the lack of a chat and guild is probably what will keep me from playing very much. Also, I'm not a fan of losing gear. I don't want my risk to be a pkers reward.. that's for sure.. Kinda like that Indy vs pats game.
