WTF? If there is anything I hate about UO, this is it.

I don't have time to play a lot with school and all; I log on yesterday morning around 4am and play till 7am - Not a Single Gain in Skill. So I log on this morning around 3am and it's 5am now my time - No Skill Gain. I'm training Fishing & currently at 65.9.

What a pain in the balls: it sucks the life from me... :sad2:

where are you fishing?
At the docks of each town. I've got a runebook to each town dock. I fish one clean, then recall to the next.

The Fishing FAQ says I should switch to Deep Water once I hit 75.0 skill though.

Fish while sailing back and forward between two islands always worked well for me. Like Moonglow and Fire Island

silly question, but one that's caused many blushes, mine included. You do have something going down? Points to spare?

That is not really accurate anyway, so get a boat and go out to the deep sea. Just sail forward the old 8x8 route, set up a macro for fishing and just keep at it. You won't even have to move or do anything other than activating that macro.

At some point you have to move from shallow water to deep water.
That is around 70? I think.
So try deep water?

Have you tried using a Crystal Ball of Knowledge? They're available from one of the mystic NPCs in the Royal City, and they'll tell you when you've hit an area that's optimal for gains at your level. A friend of mine is training fishing and says having one is really helpful.

This. I'm working on fishing right now. I used a crystal since the start at 50. As your fishing increases the optimal skill gain water moves further from shore. To level at your point you're going to need a boat.

I highly highly recommend the crystal ball quest for everyone. The quest requires 100 demon bone and 100 dragon blood. The quest giver is straight up as you come into town.

yah, I'm really liking having the Crystal Ball of Knowledge while I train up my tiny t-hunter.... she goes into New Haven, and while crafting maps hits one of those spectrals and lets him cast on her, she then walks along casting on zombies and skellies, the whole time the crystal ball telling her what is optimal and what is not

I think you need to move out into open water. From what I learned while making my fisherman, there appears to be 3 zones. Shore (shallow) water, A little away from shore there's a deeper area (a deep shallow area if you will), then there's the middle of the ocean (the deep deep water).

Where can I get 100 Daemon Bones? The mystics at the Royal City don't have any for sale.

I loot mine from those ethereal colored void deamons that spawn from farmer nash's field. Their name starts with a B. Babeleth or something like I that iirc.

They drop off of any of the void demons (that's a type not a specific name) that you find around Ter Mur. I don't know where to buy them or even if you can buy them. Anyone know this?

Hmmmm, wonder if that has changed? I seem to remember being able to buy daemon bones from them. Someone must have decided that Doom was too easy to get into now...

If there is I'd love to know where it's at, because I get tired of trying to loot enough of them to do that crystal ball quest. I can collect dragon blood like there's no tomorrow, but the hangups are always those stupid bones.

I think you just need to simply fish in open water. If you gain nothing off shallow or deep shallow then you need to try the harder stuff, in this case open water. Give that a try instead of going after the crystal ball.

This answer is completely wrong. This is why everyone should have a crystal ball.

Open water becomes optimal at 85 skill. I remember this because I hit 85 fishing yesterday.

For 63 something you should be about 4-5 tiles from shore if I remember right.

Completely wrong? It's completely wrong to suggest someone to try something harder if the other stuff doesn't work?

Yes. Open water is two steps away from optimal so they'll see ****ty gains. They'll also have to deal with agressive mobs.

Jumping from shore to open water is completely the wrong way to do it. It's much quicker to stay in the optimal zone and work your way out to open water as your optimal moves there naturally.

To the original poster.....

You need to move off the shore. In the CC map, you will notice a difference in the color of the ocean as you move to deeper sea from the shore. Your boat needs to be close to that color boundary and cast toward deep sea. The other option is to sail a few tiles off the server lines, which I prefer.

The last fisherman I trained it was on shore to 53, server lines to 75 and then deep sea to GM.

Not in the 8x8 lane. As its so easy to fish there, gains will be pretty quick in any regards, even if not optimal. Not to mention then all he has to do is push a button every few seconds to train.

I found the Daemon Bones. My Archer had about 420 of them in his bank box from Doom (for the gold skull quest in Doom).

These work fine for it.

BTW, the crystal ball also said that I was going to get the best gains (challanging) in deeper water just off the docks, not too far out into the ocean.

thanks for all the help people !

You want the crystal ball to say Optimal for best gains. Try moving a few tiles towards shore until you find that area. Challenging will work, but it's going to take a little longer between gains. The crystal ball will rate your current activity using the following:

Too Easy
Very Easy
Easy
Optimal
Challenging
Very Challenging
Too Challenging

Thanks for correcting me on that. I wasn't gaining very well in the slightly deeper water, so I'll move into shore a tad.
