Well if they pink slipped Draconi imo they've effectively ripped the heart out of UO.
Dear God, I hope not. You're absolutely correct on the comparison you made. Seems we've already lost Chrissay... I may actually consider shutting off my accounts for a time if we lost Draconi as well... Not to protest, but if we did lose Draconi I'd rather wait and see if this game will still be the same in the next few months as it has been since Draconi joined. Yes, I know it would be easier to see for myself if I like it rather than reading boards, but If we did lose too many other good people, I believe I could do without the rollercoaster until things settled. And I know it's not just Chrissay that we lost, but many others. I guess time will tell... I suppose I should wait to see who else we've lost until I make any decisions.

I actually know how you feel. I love this game, and I love the expansion, I loved the devs and the people who made the game what it was over the years.

What I don't love is how much I worried and thought for sure they were going to close it down, and worried about the devs and what would happen to them and the game in turn.

Even if Draconi is/was the heart of the game and they let him go or he is still there, I feel like part of my heart has been ripped out.

BTW, I am not saying literally, I am not going emo pizza and am going to cut myself, it is this subtle twinge of,"What now?" I find it very sad though, all of this and thanks to those who have attempted to keep us informed.

I'm very, very happy that Sakarrah is still here though..Thanks for posting Sakarrah :) That is wonderful news.

Lets not forget that 90% of the devs including draconi and sak have completly screw'd the game.

Honestly what mindless programmers would ever do what has been done to UO, like when I started playing it was one game then it has become something totally different.
Example would be something like I go buy Left 4 Dead Online, two years later it ends up being me running around with a rubber mallet hitting moles..

UO has done the same it has went from being purely pvp based cutting bodies up doing bounties to doing puzzles to get flour sifters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that EA can bring some good programmers in.

I can give links to many engines that are better then any version of UO and all the links to engines would be done by kids younger then 17 years old.

Hey, Draconi could really write some stories tho......

But I don't think him or anyone could program at all they are just script kiddies getting paid big bucks, when the economy is the way it is I don't think any programming company can afford to pay them what they think they deserve....
I dont like it when people get fired, but maybe it is a change for the better.

Content is King. More New Content = More Subscribers. No Content = Less Subscribers.

Hope EA is now smart enough to hire 5 people for the price of 1 in Shanghai EA or India and even if they are incompetant, each should be able to develop at least one new event every five months, which means UO players will have a new event every month.

im just hoping the faction revamp gets done, i dont care whos developing :p

shorter stat loss
better bases
points cap
sigil bonuses

the stuff that would make uo pvp mean something again and give us real, sustainable, long term endgame content instead of more monsters to kill

answer that in your next FoF :)

Now that sounds like a single malt from the highlands, but you said bitter, and thats usually more of an Islay.

Then you may as well try to make me perish...

I'm sorry but he lost me as a fan the moment he called me a "Carebear". He went straight to my **** list... And there is where he will stay.

Not to impressed with a lead who insults 80% of the playerbase. Very unwise move on his part if you ask me.

As for the rest... I agree with Canary... It will be a VERY sad day for me if Draconi was given "Das Boot"... I'd be most unhappy.

Though I am very glad that Sakkarah is still aboard... *breaths a small sigh of relief there*
I don't get why the label carebear is hated so much.
It's just a way to say, the players who like to interact in a peaceful way vs the PvP players, who like fighting each others.

You and other non PvP'ers offen look at the PvP players as someone who only want to grief others.

As my main char was red for 11 years (blue at the moment), many who don't know me, will look at me as a griefer who do not care and only want all "carebears" out of the game.

Yes there is PvP's who want all Carebears out of the game and there is Carebears who want PvP's out of the game but most UO players want a game with room for all.

You believe the "Carebear" is 80% of the customers, that may be right as there is very little room for the PvP'ers who love non con PvP.

Let say the split between Trammel zone and Felucca zone had been Tram 20%, Fel 80% instead of the 80/20 we have now or is it 90/10.
If we had Tram 20%/Fel 80% split, I believe we would only have 20% "Carebears" but 80% PvP players = players who like PvP being a part of their game.

I can't know, I can only guess but I'm glad to see some changes, maybe someday I will see lost friends back, who did not want to live in a reservation for reds not accepted in the rest of the land.

I respect all playstyles and there should be room for all, both for the ones who want to hunt in peace and the ones who like a little more spice.

I personly love carebears, we do have several on Siege who is very respected of the community from running shops or events.

*Hugs to all the carebears* :)

??? since I began playing in '99, there are really only four names in my head that I'll always remember: Richard Gariott, Mr. Tact, Draconi, and Lerocian. All these guys gave more than they took away and were vocal with the community.

if Draconi screwed this game up, then no one really had a chance.

and i really dont understand how you can compare a mmorpg like uo, a game expected to change, expand, etc (at $60 a month UO ought to be a new game inside a game every 6 months at least), with a static, limited mmorpg (i'll call it a lmorpg lol) like left 4 dead, that won't change until left 4 dead 2, and left 4 dead 3, and left 4 dead 4, and left 4 dead insert new gen console name, and left 4 dead 3000, et al.

The reason "Carebear" is hated.... Because it tries to "Lump" everyone in Trammel into the same "cookie cutter"... though they aren't. And to be totally honestly I find being called a Carebear by a DEV to be Insulting.

I PvP.... I PvP plenty... tram and Fel... I just don't do it for no reason. I do it for RP reasons.

I have no desire to be red, go red, murder.... unless of course my character was in fact RPing as a Murderer.

I run a bunch of events. I do quite a few things for the community and I resent being told I'm a Carebear because I could give a rats backside if Fel were removed from game tomorrow. I could care less about factions... and it seriously torks me off to be told I'm going to HAVE to do anything in-game. I don't want to be "forced" to go to Fel... I don't need an excuse to go there... If I wanted to spend time in Fel I would... and I do. I don't FEAR Fel...

I wish a bunch of Fel things were in Tram.... like push through. I HATE people standing on me... I think it's rude. And I think if I stand in front of a door I should be "blocking it" ..... and you shouldn't be able to just walk past me as if I were a ghost.

To me there is a time and place for all things... But since they took all the true "consequences out of the game for being "evil" and committing Murder and being a Thief.... and there is no real justice for any of that... I could care less about the "Fel" experience.

Beyond that... I don't want Reds in Tram.. that's the only true consequence to being a PK and it should remain... Let them have their powerscrolls but leave them in Fel where they belong.

I think there is a time and place for everything... but when I want to relax and craft or design and deco... or hold a non-PvP event like an auction or something..... I don't want to have to worry about getting Ganked. I totally understand that if I travel to Fel I take that risk...

Honestly things like Ganking 20/2, Scamming, and hacking as well as duping and the use of 3rd party programs have killed UO for many people... And most of those things seem to be rampant in Fel.

I don't want to have to "watch my back" every min I'm in game. I play to relax... not to be stressed out.

And the biggest reason that it is 80/20... and will remain that way is because more folk enjoy PvM than PvP... Me personally I like both... but my vision of PvP is more practical. I enjoy defending something/someone... over just ganking... I can't see how being a part of a 20/2 Gank squad can be "fun"... for either side. Maybe that's just me...

And I can't see how "cheating" got to be so popular... About time someone does something about that.

How do you know that more enjoy PvM than PvP? WOW do have 50% PvP servers, they even do have RPPVP servers.
Alot PvP'ers had given up UO several years ago.

Best PvP ever was before they started to nerf the game for PvP players, it was about defending something/someone, that be player towns, mining caves or dungoens, it made great comminities.

If you think only reds do gank, you are wrong, just take faction.

Cheating is not only in Felucca, BOD runners, mining scripts and farming scrips are cheating too. They hurt the game even when they do not kill you in an unfair fight.

Beyond that... I don't want Reds in Tram.. that's the only true consequence to being a PK and it should remain... Let them have their powerscrolls but leave them in Fel where they belong.
The consequence of reds not being able to go to Trammel is damage to the community. I'm all for places where PvP only is able in guildwars or evt. as duels, but not allow reds to go to this zones are bad as it increase the hate between red and blue.

On Siege, reds can go everywhere and we do not have the hate between red and blue. We do have some disrespect to known cheaters, scammers or other griefers but it have nothing to do with colors but with the action of the players.

To me there is a time and place for all things... But since they took all the true "consequences out of the game for being "evil" and committing Murder and being a Thief.... and there is no real justice for any of that... I could care less about the "Fel" experience.
I don't think we agree here, limit players to one facet or ruin their chars with stat loss is not the way to go.

There are still consequences but there is also to many advantages from being blue.

On Siege we only have few reds left, most of them are blue now and try to survive in faction. I miss when they was red and their red would be their main char.

A red can't buy from npc vendors
A red do have alot harder finding a rez
A red will easier get ganked if he try to do some PvM or quests at hot spots as he do have both red and blue enemies.
A red can't use the virtue
A red can't hunt with blue friends unless they are in same alliance, else his field spells will hurt his friends and theirs will hurt him
There is alot more

I don't want to go back to 1997, I want to move forward and find a kind of balance so we will get the best from old days but without the griefing and hate.

I think we are on right way, at least things are going better on Siege and players start to rejoin UO.

One thing make it much better now, it's much easier to replace lost stuff and it do not cost mills to get a PvP or PvM suit now, that increase the joy factor from PvP both for the victim and for the killer.

I will stop now, as I don't want to steal the thread, so back to topic :)

Missing one FOF is no big deal, we had got a public and 2 letters this week, so lets give the Devs a chance to get back on their feets after loosing co-workers and the one we lost or maybe lost, give them some peace and time, they need it.

Too many people in this game buy gold or sit on piles and are comfortable dying 20 times to high end monsters.
I recall seeing you and your guild getting your asses handed to you many times by Paroxymus, Crystal Hydras, Irk/Spite, and Abcess. You seemed perfectly comfortable dying 20 times. But you and they handled that alot better than you ever handled PvP.

At a guess I would say for the same reason most pvpers don't like to be labeled griefers. It's a gross generalisation, intended to insult or condescend, arbitrarily attributed to a playstyle based on observations of the very scum of the game who are not representative of the rest of us, regardless of however we choose to spend our time. That, and most people place too much importance on how others perceive them.

At a guess.

just very brief cause it is OT.

The isaly is actually Iodine and salt, its casked on an island on the west coast. The primary taste component to me was always wet band aid, yum.

Usually the highland, for me, (I usually drink Livet 12) has that smokey and peaty flavor combined with a sweetness that seems to linger.

Maybe the bitter in a highland could come from an oak casking. I'm not a big fan of the Glen Fiddich because the cask comes through so strongly.

Do players really need this friday junk? Are they that brainwashed by a computer game? Does your credit card company give you a FoF?

No, players don't NEED it.

It helps to act as some form of communication outlet with the Dev Team, however, especially after the stopped using 'In Concept' and 'In Development' on their old main page (which I loved them using, tbh).

FrejaSP,

You're comparing apples to oranges...

Siege is Siege.... it's not like other shards... I'd prefer to keep it that way.

And just how does that make me a "carebear"?... I know dozens of players who refuse to PvP at all.

I PvP... When I want to and only with those I wish to PvP with.

And Yes I agree that the scripters, BOD runners, and many others have killed UO every bit as much as the gankers and speedhackers, and those using 3rd party programs to PvP... (Of course in my opinion those who choose to use those programs to PvP .... are NOT PvPing.... their computer is. They are not good enough to really PvP.)

Course since the massive hard drive crash and all on my PC I can't really PvP much anymore either, but that's beside the point.

The fact is... the ratio of strict PvPers vs Strict PvMers is very big I'm willing to bet somewhere around 1:15 or 1:20. But there are many more like myself who do both. However I still say insulting over half your player base isn't a very wise move.

Pretty much everything you say here is demonstrably correct.

Sadly, however, Fellies see this game as a zero-sum competition, and they extend that to the boards, hence the invention of such terms as "Care Bears" and "Trammies" (necessitating the much-later invention of the term "Fellie," which they whine about even as they use "Trammie" constantly) and using very bad indicators to suggest they aren't really the tiny minority they are. The terms of their ideology require them to be a substantial majority oppressed and harassed as though they were a tiny, suffering minority, and that is how they describe themselves.

The fact that they are over-represented on these boards relative to the broader player base, and that they are willing to cross lines other players aren't willing to cross (saying it's a good thing Draconi's been laid off; calling other players ugly; etc.), means their voices are heard inappropriately often.
