Kelmo, I have to ask why are you posting all those? My earlier concerns were due to syndication of tweets outside of the Twitter framework and not within.
"The repository will not include tweets that Twitter users have declared protected, or private, but will include all else."LOL No-one can read my tweets unless I allow it. Geeze is congress is doing that then they are really dumb. Mind you, the more I hear about whats going on in the US the more I see freedom fading away but thats off topic so eh yeah.
it is not Congress that is saving tweets. it is the Library of Congress. yes, it's part of the legislative branch but there was no law passed to do this. all they had to do was come to an agreement with TwitterAh thankfully that bunch of freedom haters wont be getting my tweets then.
The main reason for not doing that at this time is that it will then post all of his updates, even those that do not pertain to UO.If you don't use Twitter, why not just subscribe to the guy's updates via RSS:
http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=Jeff_Skalski
You don't *have* to join to "follow" him.
Stratics should also use this method for delivering news content.... there's no reason why someone should be copy/pasting manually, lol.
I don't see any privacy issues with regard to the Library of Congress archiving public tweets and I would bet that even the most conservative members of the Supreme Court would agree. Its the corruption that taints anything that comes out of congress. It may be the library but it'll be for a reason that breaks freedom of speech or something alike. I'm very passionate about privacy and the rights of the individual (lol as you've probably noticed in this thread). But eh, we're going off topic so lets get back on the rails!
I really want to post something about this but in the interest of political calm I'll keep quiet (And its really hard not to post something >.<)I don't see any privacy issues with regard to the Library of Congress archiving public tweets and I would bet that even the most conservative members of the Supreme Court would agree.
Not fully Petra, my concern was that people's tweets were going to be syndicated without thier consent or knowledge. Also some peoples twitter usernames are thier real names and those being linked to personalities here on Stratics could be viewed as a security risk for thier accounts. If someone takes the time (And they would) they can get someones characters names, email, real name, location of where they live and to some extent thier lifestyle movements.. all tools to enable someone to possibly hack an account. All I asked was that people be asked first, I really cant see how difficult that is to facilitate? We're not posting private information, only UO related questions, answers and comments. In many cases the person who asked a question comes here to pass the information on already.
My driving force is to make Stratics the best resource I can for UO players, to support as best I can the game, its developers and its players.
The decision to include this feature was mine, and while 'money' seems to be at the forefront of your arguments against our providing this service, it never entered my head.
ARRGGHH I'll say this.. If Congress has something to do with it any any shape way or form then you can bet it'll effect someones freedom badly. Now I would really like to not continue with politics please as its getting into dodgy waters.think of it this way, it's like standing in a public square or a public park passing around a flyer w/ stuff you want people to read, then getting perturbed when someone keeps it to put in a library. there is no privacy issue and it is not a political statement.
*issues virtual press passes to all Stratics reporters*
copyright and privacy are 2 different things.I dont see whats so complicated about asking for someones consent?
Rest assure that our network has no interest in syndicating your Tweets. We do not even have the capability to automatically pull posts from Twitter at this time. Moreover, aside from Jeff, there are currently no plans to extend this project. Hence, your concerns should be mollified and we can get back to the topic. Not fully Petra, my concern was that people's tweets were going to be syndicated without thier consent or knowledge.
What she ^^^^ said....Give the Lady my thanks! I refuse to tweet, like or any of that nonsence.
You have my consent.Repost away.
Thank you Jeff for giving clarification. You have my consent.Repost away.
I have been trying to tweet to him questions that people are having, though they do not show up on his Twitter page until he responds. So far he has seemed happy that I am relaying the info, and I hope that it stays that way.
If you, or anyone else does not have/want a Twitter account but would like to ask a reasonable UO related question, I will be happy to relay it. Feel free to PM me here on stratics.
I will only be reporting on UO related issues and as far as re-tweeting/re-posting someone's tweets, Twitter already has avenues in place that I can post them all to my facebook or have them feed to other sites, so there is no expectations of privacy for anything that you post on twitter.
