was just curious how many people have been killed due to it since its introduction, mainly in PvP.

not sure how to do a poll so just say yes if it has and no if it hasn't.

I would say I die at least once a day due to it.

Thanks Devs :gee:

This may sound stupid, but what the heck is studder step?

Well if your referring to when they changed how Magery spellcasting works and created a noticeable stutter step then it's FAR from new.. That change is probably a YEAR old at least I think... If that was what you meant then I can't even remember what it was like without it so the change was that bad....

He probably meant by changing spellcasting "rubberband" effect to what we have now where casting spell is like instantly hitting a solid wall. In real day practice where if you are running and try to cast a spell you get instantly frozen in place and a slightly delay tacked after that.

Old casting goes like... Cast, stop (rubberbanding), move.
Current casting is... Cast, stop, delay, move.

Old casting makes it easier to get smaller spells off while something like a dexer is right on your ass and helps with hit with zero skill hit fireball weapons. New casting is another unintended nerf to mages and the reason they changed it was because you were able to use the rubberbanding effect to get thru some objects. e.g 598723409827350 candelabras inside a faction bases or 35234235 bagball stacks someone placed with a script.

Oh yes, the change is THAT bad. (good mages adapted doesnt mean it's not bad).

Or the OP may be experiencing what I have been since the start of the newest quest; when ever anyone stops moving around me they slide across the ground for two or three more tiles, I've noticed myself doing the moonwalk when I stop also especially when mounted. Its a recent development and nothing I've done seems to fix it, I am holding off on reinstalling the game for now, and have sent in a bug report about it.

As a mage i Adapted, but I'll admit, i sure do miss Rubberbanding..

Not that I'm doing bad now, but it did seem like dexxers were easier to fight with the Old System of Casting Movement.

Instead of this Cast Interrupt X 100, Finally get a Combo off, Offscreen after explosion, Come Back at Full HP, Repeat game..

That's what I call an "offscreen godmode". The most powerful skill against mages in UO and it cost zero (0) skill points to do.

If thats what hes talking about it's due to players holding a lantern. Do NOT reinstall UO, as there is nothing wrong with your client.

If other players is holding a lantern or a torch, when they come to a stop you will see them "moonwalking" on the last tile for a few seconds. Its normal.

I don't think that is the only instance that happens.

what i am talking about is this:

You know when times you are running and you run into a stealther and it stops you dead in your tracks. and as you try to continue to move you he is still in front of you so you stop again and again. ya know bumping into something hidden.

For about a couple of months now, this has been happening. If you hit a house or a player or anything it stops you and your client doesn't seem to catchup for 3 or 4 steps. you have to stop and wait a second before you can run again.

This is on TC1 right now, and from what I heard its EA's way of correcting speedhacking. (not sure if this is true though). But everyone on TC1 is experiencing it.

I just want to make sure that
A: its not on the prodo shards at moment.
B: it never makes it to the prodo shards, cause it absolutely blows. Trust me on this.

Well the movement changes are being worked on, so that will probably be chnaged...
However they will allow european players run and play more fluently on american shards and since european servers are pretty much dead, I'd actually like to have it go live so we can xfer to more active shards and have more fun :D

I understand that. Hope they can make it to where everyone plays at the same speed no matter where you are. good luck to you

What shard is this on that you're experiencing it? Test or Siege?

If you are talking about client auto zig-zag you around other players it will be a buff especially to melee dexers... and I can see it will make casting even more difficult. The click and follow type templates will directly denefit from this change.

What dexers are doing now is intentionally getting in your way to cause the "studder step".

Imagine one guy dismounts you while the other guy gets in your way, which causes the issue I'm talking about because you re running at full speed. almost 100% chance of death.

This has nothing to do with PvP but i too have had some sidesteps and moonwalks while mounted. It mostly happens when a monster hits me while im running past it or running away from a fight im not going to win.

What i am experiencing is very much like walking along and bumping into a stealther. Now this would have to be in Fel cause you can walk through people in Tram.

So if you were walking north as well as the stealther walking north, but you were walking at a bit faster rate, you wold bump into him and stop. then he would be a step in front of you and you would move again only to bump into him again.

This happens on test when no one is in front of you in Fel on Test Center. so it basically stops you in your tracks until your client catches up.

Imagine having two or three people attacking you while your trying to get away, and then having this "studder step" happen to you. Gets me killed a lot.

This is what happens to you in the enhanced client when you are lagging. You don't slow down, you just stop for a moment. I don't find it any worse than slowing down in the classic client when you are lagging.

My guess is that what they are doing is making the classic client movement act the same way as it does in the enhanced client. Overall you will be faster, but you do get these occasional "stutters".

What I am telling you is that TC has the new movement code, and it sounds like what they have done is made the CC movement the same as the EC movement, which many have asked for.

In the EC if you lag, you just stop. It doesn't slow you down while you are moving, but you do have these momentary "stutters". In the CC with the old movement code when you lag you actually slow down.

But the net effect with the EC movement is that you move faster, and are affected less by lag. You have to be experiencing some significant lag before you will actually experience a stutter in your movement. With the current production CC movement code it doesn't take much lag to slow you down.

Ummm not sure about the EC but the best I could say is log into TC1 and go to fel and test out what I am saying.

I can tell you that this is not happening because of lag.

Re:

I am not quite sure how this is new. I understand what you're describing and I've experienced it in the EC.

My bet is on Llewen's explanation, that their current task towards balancing speed on TC is actually balancing it between the two different Clients or at least trying to tweak them so that lag, or lack of it, has the same effect on both. It makes sense to me, at least.

This stuttering did not take much getting-used-to for me and I much prefer it from 2D's version where you are simply slow. In fact when I PVP and there's 4-6 people fighting in my screen I only stutter once every now and then- Otherwise the game-play is very smooth when fighting against people who do not for sure use speed-hacks.

I wouldn't be so fast to complain to be honest, they have obviously not finished whatever it is they are doing yet.

Oh and NO it hasn't specifically gotten me killed. 2D bogging down when I was using it has, on the other hand.
