Its hard to decide if its true or not...with the lack of official resonse on the matter......alas just to be safe i've banged 3 tier of crates to block the inside of my doorway....so NO access unless the crates are moved first....dosent take long to unlock em and relock em
Locked down non static items like tables and crates do not really block movement client side, that is why auction houses that use them tend to get robbed. Instead use a static item like a Large Stone Table.

Confirmed that the bug exists and can be duplicated?

Then my question would be, nearly one week later, where the hell is the official Mythic response to this issue?

Or did Sony buy them out recently?
I don't know their official position on it, but I imagine it's along the lines of "no comment" to active exploits.
There's a difficult line to walk between "letting potential victims know" and "letting potential exploiters know".

Since no one's gone all President Madagascar on on Mythic's MMOs, I think we can assume Sony are uninvolved ;)

I really am more questioning that if they have the ability to reproduce the bug and are aware that it exists... or, frankly, even if they can't reproduce it but have confirmed that it exists... where in the world is either the official acknowledgment that we should at least be concerned about it, where is the patcher warning to players who don't read Stratics, where is the "something is being done?" or frankly, something like locking every house in game and locking every secured container in game from anyone accessing them at all until they can figure out how to prevent the exploiters from continuing to exploit this particular thing that could cost people hours of gametime in items lost?

And my Sony comment was rather more directed at the idea that Sony waited a week to come clean about what was happening with the whole PSN thing.

I've been away for 3 weeks and noticed this post and thought Hmmmmm.
I had to install UO again because I replaced my Hard drive. Then my password didn't work,lost pw said they Emailed me my info but I never got it. OMG 7 hours trying to get my password and talking to support <------Very nice guys I must say. In the end I had to find my upgrade codes to get my password! Thank god I still had them.
I logged into UO and guess WHAT! My private keep was open to anyone and 4 chest were changed,I didn't get a chance to check the rest yet or look threw my items .I placed Rubble walls blocking all areas into the keep.

Thank you again for this notice!

Oh and Thank you to the staff who helped me get my passwords level 2 tier lol.

Only 1 person on my friends lit and access is 0,no co-owners.
I really don't want to check my house but I guess I have to right? I will let you know in awhile if I'm missing anything. I removed all my teleporters none of which are linked to any place other than my keep.

Rubble walls dont block client movement, use a deed item like a forge, spinnign wheel, etc.
If your password "didnt worked" its because someone changed it. And, if you requested a password and you didnt receive any email that means someone changed your email address on your UO account. Log in into your account to figure that out.

Are you guys freaking out over the fact, people need to release and re secure containers, left behind by the previous owner of a house?

The person who originally secures a container, can still change the access on a container, even after they are not a owner or co-owner.

This bug has been around as long as i can remember.

No need to scare the hell out of everyone, over that.

That would also explain why there has not been any word from EA, its not that big of a deal.

People just need to always re secure any containers, if they purchased a house or had someone else decorate for them.

Movement checks are performed both client and server side. The "rubberbanding" that happens sometimes is a result of the client attempting what it believes is an allowed move, and the server saying "no". So the client thinks you can move, sends the move stuff to the server and starts animating it, then the server tells it where it can go with its movement (nowhere), and you end up back at square one.
If there is no server-side checking for some manner of movement blocking, then all it takes is for the client to believe it can do the movement, and the movement can happen.

You can test it by locking down an ordinarily blocking item on the front tiles of your house (not steps). Then move away far enough for the item to be "forgotten" by the client, so when you approach the house, you don't see it.
If you run at where the item is, you can get past it before the contents of the house loads, and because the client doesn't know the item exists, you don't get blocked.

Sadly, transferring the castle doesnt reset the owner (the guy who first placed that castle) of the doors. Only way to do it is drop and replace :/
Anyway im not sure if that character can really change doors security. Probably can.

OK they are looking into this ...... try this any char thats friended to a house have them lock down a bag or better yet a box... be sure you got the owner acct active - your gunna need them. The box will be locked down all right but you cant release it even though you just locked it down and for kicks you cant look inside it ether. Soooooooo I do think this bug is worrying the dev......

No i forgot my password and had to reset it. My email matches but for some reason I'm not getting them. It was an very long day but everything seems to be safe and secured now!
I didnt noticed anything missing so far so good!

how can someone walk through or move a locked down crate???
If you try to pick up a item that is a non static item (that is a item not of a deed)and walk towards it at the same time you will walk right through it after a few atempts. Be very carful and make sure to use STATIC ITEMS (that is items of deed) to block anything you don't want others to get through.

A few weeks ago I actually had someone come into my house while I was there and systematically check each group of containers. I booted the player because, while I think I set all my secures, who knows, right? And the player scampered away because she was being attacked by some sort of monster outside the house, hehe.

I didn't read the whole thread, and I doubt anyone will read this post, but quite simply, if you ever customize your house you need to check everything that has a security function to see if it reset. Doors and teleporters the like will reset I think every time, not sure about containers, but general rule of thumb is to check everything--dye tubs, coops, etc--after you custom. It's a pain, but it's the only safe thing to do. Unless there is bug beyond that, I don't know what else to offer. It's the kind of thing where not being able to discuss bugs here creates an information void...

Would it even be possible at this point to have a dev comment on whether or not we are ever likely to see official word that this is a situation that is being looked into? or resolved after the fact?

my keep says my name i bought it and never dropped and replaced
then again i shouldnt jinx myself but i NEVER see any of the bugs i hear about here
maybe im just lucky?

I am pretty sure this bug is limited to Magincia (writ housing), although I have no clue if it is even still active.

go inside a house YOU own and click on door to set security and on the top of menu you will see what should be your name :thumbsup:

I'm confused..... on the top line I see "Owner: " and there is nothing there, and I'm pretty sure I've never seen a name there:(

In the cc if you left click one time on a door you will get the "Set security" gump click it one time in that menu it will say on very top "set access" next line down it will say "Owner: (your name)" next line after that it has the options of owner only co-owner guild friends anyone....

seems to be not consistent

public castle - name is there, access owner only
public custom - name is there, access anyone
private custom - name is there, access owner only
public castle - no name, went thru all security setting options

one more house, custom, changed from private to public and back again and name stayed

so the only one that does not have a name is that very first one I checked (note to self, check everything)... two of these placed by me, three traded to me, including both castles which is where the inconsistency is... ya got me, dunno what's causing it

So we are to take it that UOStratics recieved word from UO that in fact they fixed this bug and it is now safe to put our houses back to the way they were?

Please if you are going to unstick something like this then you need to make a statement that the bug has been fixed and stick it on top for all to see.

EA-Mythic never discusses issues that can be exploited. They have been true to form here. I don't think you will see an acknowledgement of the problem, nor a statement of a fix. Typically, they do not like to talk about what the problem was since bugs tend to have a habit of eventually creeping back into the game.

Believe us or not - that is your choice.
